It would be interesting if Kozlov traveled, I think he was a bit under productive last year, I think it would be a nice "nudge" to get him going full speed by the first game.

That's about right.

Did Dovgan get returned at some point?

I think we all expected Alzner to get a long, serious look. I am pleasantly surprised to see both Godfrey and Carlson still in the mix.

Lots of good young talent playing there. Half of those guys are expected to be Bears this season. check out my page at hersheybearshockey.blogspot.com

Will there be a practice/skate tomorrow with the game being away? I live about an hour and a half away from Kettler and have the day off. I'd like to go but don't want to get there and find out no practice...

I'm a bit surprised that Erskine isn't listed. Johnson is probably sweating bullets about now.

There is a pre game skate for the away group and 2 seperate practices for the groups left behind. A good day to go to practice.

Perreault but not Bouchard? With the smoking pair those two made on the ice the last couple of times they were out? Confused....

This is from Bob mcKenzie at TSN. He seems well connected and usually right onthese things....

Another veteran player on a big ticket - Washington Capital centre Michael Nylander, who has another three years with a cap hit of $4.875 million per year - is apparently available and while there is considerable interest in him, finding a team with the right financial fit is a challenge. Nylander also has a no-trade clause. The Chicago Blackhawks, who could use a veteran presence in the second-line centre slot, are one of a number of teams that may be trying to work something with Washington on Nylander.

It is the last paragraph of the article at

Do you think we'll see more starters at home games this pre-season? Particularly as the season gets closer.

Posted by: Tim | September 23, 2008 3:52 PM | Report abuse

Bob's making stuff up. No way does Nylander waive his no trade clause.

Looks like a road team for a preseason game in a head-to-head situation. Keep the top players home and hope that the opponent does the same. Won't be surprised if the Caps don't do so well tomorrow, but come back strong on Thursday...

Is there any word on who will be at the Pre-season home opener? Like Neuvirth and Bouchard, for example...?

Posted by: DrinkingPartner | September 23, 2008 4:08 PM | Report abuse

Surprised to see Nylander on the roster without Clark...

Figure if your going to play one, play them together to get the chemistry working.

Posted by: Mike | September 23, 2008 4:27 PM | Report abuse

@Mike, I second that. Nylander, Flash.. no Clark? Chemistry, yeah, plus he needs to test his leg, anyway..

hopefully, he didn't tweak anything.

Posted by: Vlad | September 23, 2008 4:43 PM | Report abuse

Is Nylander available? Yes. Will anyone offer us anything decent: No. Will he allow a deal: No. So it's all wasted ink.

Lepisto's name got misspelled in the blog post. Sorry, editor / writer eyes.

Posted by: ranndino | September 23, 2008 5:32 PM | Report abuse

Even ASSUMING Nylander would waive his NTC (which is a big joke, since he's already stated that he likes it here and isn't going anywhere), a trade only works if he goes to a young team with a lot of cap space (ala the Hawks). That team might also be terrible (ala the Kings). (While we have assumed for this post that the NTC is waived, I think we all know he isn't going to a crappy team, no matter how great L.A. is as a city...)

The other option is an even swap with someone else's cap problem (like the Ducks and Schneider). That's certainly possible but, the stars need to align perfectly for the math to work for both teams.

Of course, this is all moot without the NTC waiver. I doubt he goes anywhere unless the Caps have a bad year and he's a dump at the deadline to a contender.

Flash - Nyls - Kozzie
Osala - Aucoin - Fehr
Giroux - Perreault - Gordon
Laing - Stecks - Brads

No reason to take Laich, Morin or Joudrey extra man.

Jurcina - Schultz
Lepisto - Alzner
Carlson - Godfrey
Cutta

No reason for Morrissonn to go. Save him for the opener. This will be a big eye opener for all of us, whos better, Juice,Schultz or Lepisto,Alzner.

What does everyone else think?

Posted by: #94 | September 23, 2008 5:56 PM | Report abuse

Does anyone know if the game will be broadcast?

Posted by: go caps | September 23, 2008 6:41 PM | Report abuse

@old time hockey:
The Hawks current salary commitment for the season is $56,108,856. Their cap space is $591,144.

LA has $17 million in space... fyi

Interesting that it's made up primarily of Team C. This is the time for Fehr to really shine in preseason and make a statement to stay up with the Caps at the start of the season. Good Luck Eric!
