Schultz Signs Q.O.
I don't have many details at the moment, but defenseman Jeff Schultz has accepted his qualifying offer, I'm told. It's a one-year, two-way deal worth $715,000.
Still trying to figure out what all the confusion was about yesterday. Stay tuned.

That's unfortunate.
Yeah, send him to Hershey.. or perhaps any of the other 29 organizations.

@ Semvechkin:
Well said! Completely agree.

Expected that. It's probably a fax machine that was out of paper or had the phone line unplugged or some other stupid stuff. (Yes, that really happens in my office. We're an IT shop and we unplug the fax line all the time to stick a modem on it for one reason and another.)
No big.
Re: those of you who want Schultz gone: @OnFrozenBlog RT @EmptyMaybe : if the coach is impressed with a player, and you aren't, you're wrong.

wonder if it's similar to Fehrs, as his is a two way deal also , and waiver eligible

Here is the updated cap. It now has a full 23-man roster and over $600K in space, fully counting Alzner's bonus.
Down at the bottom I list the "extra" players not counted in cap. I put Mo down there because I can't see him staying. I put Jurcina down there because he's unsigned. I put Collins and Bourque down there because I don't know if they can go to Hershey w/o waivers. Usually, players signing the QO after the entry-level contract require waivers - I think. And I don't think they want to just lose Bourque.
As for Schultz, he's a fair value at $682K as a #6/7 defenseman. I don't expect him as a 1-4 defenseman, as he's sure not being paid like it. I understand he has plenty of room to improve, but can't quite understand the amount of criticism. He's a better value at salary IMO than ShaMo.

I don't know if I want Schultz gone, but I do want him in Hershey. Maybe he can still be good, but it seems like he needs seasoning. Don't necessarily agree with OnFrozenPond there, either. Coaches, GMs and scouts make poor player judgments, too. They might like Schultz, but it doesn't mean he's going to turn out.

From Twitter: @cmasisak22Word is Schultz's fax made it to NHL Central Registry, but not to the Caps' office yesterday -- hence the confusion.

Excellent, we have everybody on board that the Team wanted (sorry to those who don't see value in Schultz as a d-man on the roster or at least an asset)...now we just wait to see what price Jurina can command

"
Do you keep an eye on what Washington is doing on the agents signing? They have signed Morrison, Gordon, Knuble...
Of course I do. So far I am happy, but I think GM George McPhee wil also try to sign a strong defenseman."
Q&A with Ovie. Could be talk, could be that a trade is still coming. better than letting too many NHL-guys collect dust in the AHL.

of course, Ovie does say sign. So maybe it is just him being a wishful thinker...
I don't see us signing anymore free agents.

@kitty
are we allowed to make Corey Masisack references here? ;)

Schultz definitely made some blunders towards the end of the season but he did end up with a plus 13, which is second among our D. I'd like to think there's some hope...maybe Juice can show him how to use his body a little more. Juice certainly picked that up quickly in the play offs.

Color me happy. This is a good big picture development.
