Schultz Will Play
The lineups were just announced and defenseman Jeff Schultz is in. That bumps Steve Eminger out. I thought Eminger played a strong game on Friday, but I'm guessing Coach Bruce Boudreau felt he needed John Erskine's toughness more.

I agree that Eminger played his best hockey of the season last friday, but i must say i fully agree with Boudreau's decision to keep toughness in the line-up against a team like the Flyers.

I hope we see his half-slapshot i don't think i've seen him try one since the article and i've been hoping it's just cause he's been saving it for the playoffs.

enough with these Philly rushes come on boys!

The D needs to get it together... almost split on the shorthanded, and then absolutely torched on that breakaway.
Posted by: Kurt | April 13, 2008 2:17 PM | Report abuse
Schultz should have stayed out, I think it's pretty clear already. He's not 100%, even if most of that is just mental.
Posted by: Kurt | April 13, 2008 2:21 PM | Report abuse
At this rate, Huet might get cold.
Time to step up on the PK.
To reiterate from the entire season, we need to stay out of the box and we'll be ok.
Posted by: BernieWolfeFan | April 13, 2008 2:21 PM | Report abuse
These announcers are completely off. To call that hit on Huet incidental is ridiculous. Secondly, the reason Schultz is moving around carefully is he just got back from injury... no mention of that at all. Where's the pre-game research? I miss Joe B. and Locker.

another power play coming up. we have to take advantage of it NOW.

Let's go Caps!!

Defense is hanging Huet out to DRY.
COME ON, BOYS!

Its NBC. We can't get anything done when we're on NBC. Can we request to be on Versus for the rest of the playoffs???

lets just get out of this period......

came out flaaaaaat in this game...I have been worried about the emotional let down, maybe thats today.
Posted by: chris larry | April 13, 2008 2:37 PM | Report abuse
Green's not doing great either. Totally put himself way out of position on the defense there, and almost gave up a huge opportunity because of it.
Hope he scores here.

The Caps are flat, the announcers may be wearing Orange and Black.
Posted by: Joe B | April 13, 2008 2:41 PM | Report abuse
Wow. Biron has been excellent. I can tell it's demoralizing the Capitals... they've had some quality opportunities and just can't convert them to goals. Painful 1st
Posted by: longtimecapsfan | April 13, 2008 2:43 PM | Report abuse
I also need to mention something that's been bothering me for a while. The Caps move the puck too slow on the power play, letting the D always get in position. The guy with the puck holds it for a few seconds, looks around, and finally passes it. Come on, Caps. Quick, fast passes to get an open man for a good shot.
Boudreau better wake them up before the second period starts.
Posted by: Joe B | April 13, 2008 2:45 PM | Report abuse
Biron has been the difference. The Caps have had good looks and a shot off the post/crossbar. They do not look flat to me. Philly is taking advantage of the fact that our D cheats up and Mike Green can't afford to ever lose that puck with the team going forward. Give Flyers credit for taking advantage of mistakes and a juicy rebound.
Posted by: Richmondcapsfan | April 13, 2008 2:49 PM | Report abuse
The Caps are not flat and the announcers are much better than the local two.
The Caps powerplay is horrible. Great passing but they are so predictable there is very little to defend. Mike green's has to quit the fake shot and just shoot. Semin is the only one trying to score. The Caps need better point players, they need someone who can do the one-time shot and someone who can stop the puck from leaving the zone. Jesus. they are like statues making pretty passes.

time to get back to basics
hey greener last man in his end with puck has to move it quickly
big boys have to backcheck
omg flash is useless he tries to forcheck and falls down or gets knocked off the puck way too easy
LETS GET RIGHT BACK INTO AT THE START OF THE PERIOD
GO CAPSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

NBC is doing a profile on Mike Richards now. Gag me.
Posted by: Anonymous | April 13, 2008 2:51 PM | Report abuse
hmmm I don't see the Caps being "flat". They should be more careful, but they're dominating imho. However the Flyer are expecting this, so we should keep this up while watching our back. Yeah, easy to say sitting on a sofa I know.
COOOOMMEEEE OOONN BOOOOYYSSS!
Posted by: mauree | April 13, 2008 2:51 PM | Report abuse
Going to need a goal here from the third or fourth line here to refocus the team....
Defense has to get Huet some help here, leaving him out on an island. And neeed more net crashing in front of Brion...
Posted by: chris larry | April 13, 2008 2:55 PM | Report abuse
@x
I agree 100% with you. That has been my view on the Caps' power play for sometime now.

ugh...another PP...almost kills are momentum today...

Posted by: Anonymous | April 13, 2008 3:02 PM | Report abuse
so is this period not flat??? Sorry this is a flat team today.
Posted by: chris larry | April 13, 2008 3:13 PM | Report abuse
The play-by-play from NBC is completely worthless. One commenter just said there are a lot of Flyer fans at the Verizon Center. Looks like a lot of red to me.....
Posted by: longtimecapsfan | April 13, 2008 3:14 PM | Report abuse
The Caps are flat but it's just because they are so discouraged from being stoned by Biron. He's made the difference in the game so far.

new thread!
Posted by: Anonymous | April 13, 2008 3:15 PM | Report abuse
Is Mike Green too good to throw a hit once in a while?
As a Flyer was skating along the boards with the puck in the neutral zone and into the Caps' end, Green skated right alongside, but never took the body.
Green, that was an easy play where you take the body, not just be a spectator!
Posted by: Joe B | April 13, 2008 3:18 PM | Report abuse
Schultz ain't it, 6'6" and still needs to learn how to use that big frame. Eminger mixes it up well, moves the puck better and given the chance, can be a top 4 guy here. Green got his chance to shine with Morrisonn back there. Give Eminger that same chance with Erskine or Schultz back to play D. Plus he is battle tested being the captain of his OHL team, think they won 1 or 2 Memorial Cups with him. I know this is the big leagues, but any playoffs of any kind need the same thing, the desire to want it just a little more than your opponent.
GO CAPS, take it back in game 3
