Semin Signs Extension and Other Stuff
Just landed in St. Louis and received word that Alexander Semin has signed a two-year contract extension worth $9.2 million.
He'll earn $4.2 million next season and $5 million the folllowing year, for a cap hit of $4.6 million.
Still hoping to get an update on Clark's condition.
Update:Sorry for the delay, but there's been a lot going on today.
*After the expiration of Semin's new deal, he'll still have one year of RFA status remaining. The terms sound a little high to me, but if he goes out and scores 40 goals this season and next, maybe not.
*Here's what Hanlon had to say about Clark. The two spoke on the phone earlier:
"I would have to say not great. When Chris Clark says something that's not 100-percent positive, that's not a good sign. But that's to be expected. He'll probably be in a lot of pain today and feel a heck of a better. He said it doesn't look very good, between all the stitches and the swelling."
Clark received several dozen stitches to put his ear back together. It was pretty gruesome from the sounds of it. He still might join the team in Toronto if he's feeling up to it.
*With Clark out, Backstrom will get his shot to center the first line between Ovechkin and Kozlov. The second line will be Fleischmann-Nylander-Semin.
*Defenseman Tom Poti will be out again with a strained groin muscle.
