Bruce Boudreau expects Semyon Varlamov to dress against Nashville
Coach Bruce Boudreau wouldn't give away much regarding the status of the Capitals' group of injured players, but he did say that barring a setback in practice Friday, goaltender Semyon Varlamov will dress against the Predators Saturday.
"Unless something crazy happens tomorrow he'll be dressing for Saturday's game," said Boudreau, who wouldn't divulge whether Varlamov would start in Nashville. "I think, but I'm not telling."
Varlamov, who has been hampered by a groin injury, participated in full practices and drills all week and said a few times that he felt ready to go. Now it appears as though he will have that chance sooner rather than later.
"It was tough to start this way," Varlamov said of the early-season injury. "But it wasn't as bad as before and I feel good now. I'm ready to get back."
Boudreau added that he's not excessively concerned about Varlamov making his return after a short training camp and having only played half a preseason game -- Sept. 22 against Columbus.
"I'll always worry about it but I have the confidence in him that he'll be able to do it," Boudreau said. "He's only had a half of a game under his belt; the good thing is the preseason game we got out-shot a lot in the first half. He held them to nothing and he was outstanding."
As for the rest of the Capitals walking wounded, Boudreau said their status for Saturday's game remains undetermined. Matt Bradley and Tom Poti (both lower-body injuries) skated and took part in drills this morning while Mike Green was given a maintenance day.
Boudreau said he expects all three to be back out on the ice Friday morning and that there is nothing serious wrong with Green after he left Wednesday's game with a stinger. Marcus Johansson said he's feeling better after taking a shot off his right foot against the Senators.
Update: Per TSN's Bob McKenzie the Capitals placed goaltender Dany Sabourin on waivers earlier today.
