Single Game Tickets On Sale Sept. 20

Single game tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. the day training camp opens, and a few games are already close to being sold out, according to the team.

From the release:

Thanks to significant demand for season tickets and partial plans as well as presale single-game ticket purchases by season-ticket holders, some games may have a very limited number of tickets available or even be sold out when individual tickets go on sale Sept. 20.

Here's the part that caught my eye:

Additional giveaways during the season include: a schedule magnet (Oct. 18 vs. New Jersey), a Bruce Boudreau bobblehead with the Jack Adams Trophy presented by Verizon (Nov. 14 vs. New Jersey), an Alex Ovechkin bobblehead with the Hart Trophy and Lester B. Pearson Award (Dec. 18 vs. St. Louis ) ...

I'm working my sources trying to get a photo of the Boudreau bobblehead.

BB Bobblehead night!!!!! Tarik: will it come with a pull chord that dishes wise Boudreauisms? That would make my Christmas.

94, you just made my day.

Any Penguin fans worried they wont be able to see them play the Caps this year? Good luck paying double on stub-hub or ebay.

Posted by: Pitt Losers | September 3, 2008 3:16 PM | Report abuse

All they have to do is alert Ebay that the tickets are going for more than face value and ebay will promptly take down the listing.

I tried to put tickets on Stub Hub to make a profit and they wouldnt let me sell them if I was getting more in my pocket than what I paid

Posted by: Anonymous | September 3, 2008 3:22 PM | Report abuse

They can still get tickets. If a group of them are coming down for a game, call group sales, I believe the min # to qualify for group rate is 20 but I just bought 10 tixs for an oct game through the Caps group, I am not a caps fan and dont live in Washington.

This also might be a good move for you cap fans who want to buy some tickets before they go on group sales..they all make commission, they will take your order

Yay. Gabby Bobblehead Night is a Friday, so it's part of my weekend plan.

Posted by: tallbear | September 3, 2008 3:27 PM | Report abuse

opposing fans will always find ways to get into the games. When they are there, the only way we can counter them is for CAPS FANS TO BE LOUD.

Posted by: Go Skins Go | September 3, 2008 3:56 PM | Report abuse

Yes! Gabby bobblehead!!! That is the best giveaway ever! I hope it actually looks like him...they so rarely do...

I don't think eBay has any law against scalping tickets. I paid more than double the face value on eBay to go see the Skins in Dallas (3.5 weeks, baby). And it took me days to find decent seats at a price I could live with.

I shopped StubHub and Ticketmaster Ticket Exchange as well, and no one was selling ticket for face value. They were all well above.

Greedy Dallas bastards.

Posted by: Jill | September 3, 2008 4:09 PM | Report abuse

Pretty excited about the two bobbleheads, especially the BB one.

Posted by: Sombrero Guy | September 3, 2008 4:28 PM | Report abuse

Tarik, I just got off the phone with my sources and there has been a big misunderstanding.

The Bruce Boudreau bobblehead won't actually be a bobblehead but actually a bobblebelly.

Posted by: Villainaire | September 3, 2008 4:34 PM | Report abuse

That was actually my first "First" ever I think. Its hard to get a "First" on here!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: 94 | September 3, 2008 4:36 PM | Report abuse

Looking forward to cheering on my Sabres in person on December 26 and April 3. Let's go Buffalo!!!!

Posted by: yg | September 3, 2008 4:48 PM | Report abuse

@ Jill
I went down to Dallas last year for the Skins game, don't worry, they are actually nice people and its 1/4 Skins fans. It kind of made me feel bad about how Skins fans treat them at FedExField.

Do Stub Hub or Ebay really prevent tickets from going for more than face value? Do the Caps have an official relationship with Stubhub like the Redskins do?

Posted by: reekie | September 3, 2008 5:23 PM | Report abuse

I'm not remotely worried. I've been to a game there before wearing the burgundy and gold. It's not Philly, though it definitely wasn't 1/4 Skins fans either.

Posted by: Jill | September 3, 2008 5:44 PM | Report abuse

I won 76ers tickets once at a work thing in Philly and sold them on Ebay. I got more than face value but Ebay caps it at I think 25% more or something.

@Buffalo Fan

Why betray Buffalo? Cant get a good job up there?

Posted by: Anonymous | September 3, 2008 7:06 PM | Report abuse

My guess is that tickets to the Detroit and both Pittsburgh games are very limited. They are the only 3 homes games now shown as "Sold Out" on the discount page the Capitals have for youth hockey teams (although all 3 of those games have premium pricing and would not be given a discount on that page anyway). You know that they are holding some back because they are still trying to sell season tickets. But they are selling tickets to the other premium games, as well as all of the regular games, so those three games must be dangerously close to selling out.

Any word on the banner raising game against Chicago/Huet? I'm dying for tickets!

an thank god, because last season's playoffs nearly wiped out my hockey budget

Great last few posts, Tarik. I'm glad that Pothier is progressing from the dire condition he's been in. I like Number 11 in the rafters too.

Last year I got to see a several games cheap via the "Pack the House" student ticket promotion. Any word on whether the Friday games will have discount student tickets?

i got tickets to both the pens games, detroit, and chicago... can't wait... see u guys there... when i was talking to the guy last week he said that those games are going to be hard to get seats for... gl for those who plan to get individual tickets... go feds...

Posted by: vik | September 3, 2008 11:53 PM | Report abuse

honed, you just made my day. Maybe I'll still get to see some live hockey this season. I guess I'll just have to pray for no 8ams on Fridays next semester.

Where do you go on the Caps site to RSVP for the Rookie Game vs Philly?

Posted by: AM Capsfan | September 4, 2008 7:41 AM | Report abuse

Am caps fan,

i don't think the link for that is up yet try at like 10 or 12

the link is up

Thanks! I just RSVP'ed for mine!

Posted by: AM Capsfan | September 4, 2008 9:57 AM | Report abuse

Regarding selling tickets on eBay or StubHub, I am not aware of any restrictions on StubHub. eBay does indeed enforce scalping laws and if an auction goes against scalping laws in the jurisdiction the event takes place then they will remove the auction by request (or by internal review).

The problem with the Verizon Center is DC has no scalping laws. You can resell tickets for any amount. The only law that affects the resale of tickets in DC is to sell anything on the street you must have a vendor's license and the DC gov't does not issue vendor licenses for ticket brokers. So tickets for Caps games can legally be sold anywhere online for any amount.

I wonder if anyone from the caps marketing has called the now most famous hockey mom in America to come and see them? Could be new season tickets
And not sure who I am voting for in November other than for the All Star game,

Posted by: Rich C | September 4, 2008 10:29 AM | Report abuse

It looks as if you have to supply the proper name and age for the free tickets. If you register a friend, make sure you have their age right, so the ID check will make sense on site.

@ Coach 94,

Good Skate last night, gotta keep getting out there though, get that speed up. Maybe not as many bruises next time.

I would love to see Palin at a game, it would be awesome publicity for her as well coming up to the election.

Rock the Red GOP, makes sense doesn't it ;)

I hope the giveaway schedule is incomplete. They did a heck of a lot more last year, and the fleece hockey helmets have become legendary in our family. (my brother losing a bet and having to wear one all the way back to Shady Grove while dressed in full Bruins regalia? PRICELESS) I was so looking forward to red mullet night myself.

A Bruce Boudreau bobble-head? I gotta get me one of them! ;)

Posted by: Sapper | September 4, 2008 11:18 AM | Report abuse

Hey everyone,

You want to know how my luck runs? I have been going to 15-20 games a year since the Caps Center. This year I bought my first season ticket package (2 seats, sec. 433). I am very excited and can't wait to get started. This fall I have my 30th high school reunion in TX (I left before the Stars came down). I made the plane reservations, hotel, etc. long ago. Guess when the reunion is. The same weekend as opening night! So I either lose about $1500 or I miss the banner raising and first home game of the season! My wife and kids are looking forward to the trip. The wife wants to see how she measures up against the old flames from HS, the kids want to spend time with several cousins in the DFW area. So if I cancel the trip I get the wrath of my family and if I take the trip I am miserable the whole time due to missing the game.

I tell you, if my luck were any worse the casinos would pay my way to Vegas on a monthly basis.

Posted by: kenwood | September 4, 2008 11:23 AM | Report abuse

Oh and BTW - I have two seats to opening night I need to sell, face value to a die hard caps fan (are you listening JMUCAPSFAN?). Face value meaning what is listed on the ticket, not what I paid for them.

Posted by: kenwood | September 4, 2008 11:25 AM | Report abuse

@ Kenwood

You may want to think about the possibility of sending your wife and family on the plane, skip the reunion, and take JMUCapsgirl with you to the game...

Posted by: Super | September 4, 2008 11:36 AM | Report abuse

Kenwood - If you can get them to postpone the reunion for 2 weeks you can catch the Caps in Dallas and have the best of both worlds. How hard can it be?

Posted by: Jill | September 4, 2008 11:51 AM | Report abuse

I am surprised that the rookie game tickets are still available. I got mine - who else is going?

Posted by: Boo! | September 4, 2008 11:51 AM | Report abuse

and then you can tell your wife how she measures up

Posted by: Anonymous | September 4, 2008 11:54 AM | Report abuse

what a horrible situation Kenwood. One of my friends is getting married in Vegas on the 9th and we were scheduled to come back on the 12th but i changed my trip so I could come back on the 10th. I kinda like super's idea.

Posted by: Tim | September 4, 2008 11:56 AM | Report abuse

I think the rookie game tix are unlimited but they add that just getting a confirm doesn't guarantee you are cover unorganized as some of the season ticket holder events and kid events went I can only imagine how smooth this will be...I just hope I get in after treking close to 2 hrs

Posted by: capsgary | September 4, 2008 11:58 AM | Report abuse

There is usually a limit on such events ... like the jersey unveiling - only so many tickets were distributed for the main arena.

Posted by: Boo! | September 4, 2008 12:02 PM | Report abuse

I knew I could count on you for some great ideas. Thanks Super/Jill/Anon. But I think the best course of action is to combine these suggestions and take Capsgrl to Dallas with us, move the reunion to when the Caps are down there and see if I can gague the measuring up part for myself. The only problem is that this solution still makes me miss the game and gets me maybe not.

Posted by: kenwood | September 4, 2008 12:03 PM | Report abuse

I reserved a ticket, I'll be there in my red Ovie jersey most likely.

Posted by: CapsCorndog | September 4, 2008 12:17 PM | Report abuse

Kenwood... WWQD?
(What would Quintin Laing Do?)

That's right, he would lay right in front and take that puck any way necessary.

jk I know that you have to be there for the family.

Posted by: Super | September 4, 2008 12:18 PM | Report abuse

So if anyone needs tix for the opening game, I have 2.

Posted by: kewood | September 4, 2008 12:19 PM | Report abuse

@ Boo!

I'll be there, may as well, I took the Jschon route and gave my 2 weeks on Monday. I had to, work was getting in the way of hockey last year, can't let that happen again.

Posted by: Super | September 4, 2008 12:19 PM | Report abuse

@Boo! Some of us poor slobs have to work and cannot make the rookie game.

Posted by: Jill | September 4, 2008 1:05 PM | Report abuse

Work is over-rated - just ask Super and JSchon ... ;-) Actually, I may have to work, too, but I will do my best to get there!

Posted by: Boo! | September 4, 2008 1:14 PM | Report abuse

I had my fun but a girl's gotta eat...I've been at my job for less than 3 weeks...saving my early departures and days off for more significant events a little later down the road. The rookie game didn't make the cut.

Posted by: Jill | September 4, 2008 1:20 PM | Report abuse

Regarding Group Tickets. I read from a blogger who was trying to organize a group purchase for Pen fans, they will not sell group tix to one of the premium games unless one also purchases group tix to a non-premium game.

Posted by: Novaron | September 4, 2008 1:36 PM | Report abuse

@ Kenwwod
I might be interested in your tickets. I am trying to put together a CAPS trip. I am checking on flights, hotels, rentals, and such cost. This is the plan Fly from Gulfport Ms. to Atlanta Friday the 10th, watch the Caps/Thrashers, stay in Atlanta that night, Fly to BWI Sat morning, Go to Caps home opener, Fly home Sunday morning.
I'll let you know if I can work it all out by this sunday. E-mail me at

Posted by: Capsfannmiss | September 4, 2008 1:54 PM | Report abuse

If you fly to Regan National instead of BWI then you can take the metro and you wont have to worry about getting a car.

Posted by: Tim | September 4, 2008 2:42 PM | Report abuse

Definitely fly into National, should be easily done from Hartsfield in ATL. Might cost a bit more, but worth the difference when you consider the convenience of being able to take the DC subway/metro from the front door of the airport.

Posted by: Catalyst | September 4, 2008 2:45 PM | Report abuse

Good stuff on WaPo Live! I still have my concerns about Clark too, whether it be a mental or physical barrier he still has to overcome. Hopefully he'll work it out during camp...Like BB said, "it'll be like signing a pretty good free agent", if he's 100 percent and able to contribute like in the past.

Keep up the good work!
