Sleepless in Arlington

Caps Coach Bruce Boudreau said he didn't get a lot of sleep last night.

Did you?

It would be completely understandable if you didn't considering what's going to be on the line in a few hours: The Caps' Southeast Division hopes - and possibly the fate of their entire season - could be determined by tonight's result against the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Hurricanes, of course, can clinch their fourth division title in nine seasons with a regulation win at Verizon Center, which figures to be packed with red-clad Caps' fans. Washington, meantime, likely needs to win out - and get some significant help - to get in.

It all starts at 7:08 p.m. ET.

"We just have to win," Boudreau said after the morning skate. "If we let up one iota, and we don't have success, then we're done. Fear is probably the best motivating factor you can have."

Cristobal Huet will start in goal and it doesn't appear that there will be any changes based on how they lined up during the skate. The 'Canes, however, might bring in some reinforcements, with forwards Ray Whitney (ankle) and/or Justin Williams (knee) possibly returning from injury. I won't know for sure until tonight, since the 'Canes did not skate today.

Like it or not, tonight's game is also vital for Alex Ovechkin's MVP aspirations. He can take a huge step toward wrapping up the Hart Trophy by - once again - lifting up his teammates and carrying them closer to the franchise's first playoff berth since 2002-03.

There's been a lot of debate amongst reporters in recent weeks as to whether Ovechkin should be the MVP if the Caps don't make the playoffs. Some say he has to make the playoffs to get their vote; other say he's already earned it.

It's my position that he should win the award based on his numbers and what I've observed over the past six months. No one, with possibly the exception of Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur, has meant more to their team than Ovechkin, in my opinion. And he's got the stats to prove it: Ovechkin has scored a higher percentage of the Caps' goals (27.3 percent) and has had a hand in a greater percentage of his team's goals (48 percent) than any other player in the league.

On another subject, Caps center David Steckel (broken finger) had the pins removed and skated hard this morning. It doesn't look like he's going to play tonight, but there's a good chance he'll be back in the lineup at some point this week.

I also spoke to George McPhee about a published report saying the Caps were in preliminary talks with Huet about an extension. McPhee said he has not spoken to Huet's rep, Stephen Bartlett, since the day after the Feb. 26 trade. McPhee did, however, say he plans to talk to Huet after the season, preferring for the issue not to become a distraction during the push.

Update:Ovechkin was named the NHL's first star of the month. Check out the details here.

Update:Just received an email from the 'Canes confirming that Whitney and Williams have been activated from IR.

Haha the funny thing is I definitely woke up trashing in my sleep while dreaming about hockey. Still out in Colorado, but I have a sports bar lined up to watch the game tonight. Let's go caps.

Anyone who thinks Ovechkin shouldn't be the MVP if the caps barely miss the playoffs don't understand what the acronymn stands for. Its MVP as in Most Valuable Player. Not MVPOAPT (most valuable player of a playoff team). Idiots like Damien Cox (insert joke about his last name here) don't seem to get that. http://thestar.blogs.com/thespin/

Just looking ahead but if the caps can manage to get by carolina and win the division their first round opponent(as it stands now)would be Ottawa. Considering how the caps have played them this year and that their confidence is lowering I think that would be a great series if your a caps fan.

Tarik,
Also a good argument is that he is leading the league in GWG. Isn't it also show that he is MVP by deciding the games outcome with GWG?

AP- OVECHKIN HURT!
Washington Capitals star forward, Alexander Ovechkin took a puck to the right eye during this morning's practice. He was whisked to the locker room and there has been no word concerning his condition, but there was a large pool of blood evident on the ice. Players when asked afterwards said they would be shocked to see 'AO' play tonight. Ovechkin and his team mates are hosting the SE division's leading squad, the Carolina Hurricanes for a pivotal match up tonight at Verizon Center.

The Caps have to stay away from dumb penalties, and the defensemen have to do a better job when the puck is behind the Washington net. That's been a turnover palace in recent weeks.

We'll know in the first 10 minutes whether the Caps are hyped and come out flying, or whether they are over pressured, fatigued from the build up, and headed for disaster.

@Tarik,

In all seriousness, does your opinion the OV is the MVP carry a lot of weight with the other beat writers? I mean, sure you're a journalist, but you are still the "home town guy" and some rah-rah behavior is expected. Sort of like Larry Brooks in New York. (ok, sorry, that was low...) There is in fact ice issues at Verizon. After the ice was melted by the circus, they didn't start to resurface until 1am and it takes about 17 hours to get the ice prepared. By my calculations that means the ice won't be ready until 8pm. This isn't good folks. How could Verizon screw us any more than they already have.

After managing to secure tickets to the game tonight, I was forced to feel the repercussions between 4am - 530am, as I laid awake in bed thinking about the game.

I'm stoked to watch this one. A big "W" here really puts the pressure on Carolina to win out. Just AWESOME!!!

Posted by: fricknoutstandin | April 1, 2008 12:50 PM | Report abuse

A win tonight and I like our chances.

Carolina plays tomorrow without a rest.

Our next game is Tampa that gets no day of rest after playing Carolina.

Our last game is against Florida that gets no day off after playing Carolina

Phil has to play Pitt twice and Jersey once. (they won't roll over)

Boston has to play Jersey Ottawa and play the last game against Buffalo (with no day off)

Of course if we lose tonight, I don't like our chances.

Tommy, good point... did not think of that. Last year, I went to Disney on Ice and I asked the current ice caretakers where the lines were. He said they painted over them. Hmm, but that was Disney on "ice"... I would have thought they would put the boards over the ice like they do in basketball... I really don't think they would be stupid enough to not be prepared.... they had 2 weeks for figure this all out.
I just it's a joke... with all the jokes already, I would not be surprised.

In all seriousness, hopefully the ice will be ok (read: normal VC "quality") and the boys will be pumped for the game. The caps have pressure, but there has got to be signifficant pressure felt by the Canes. They dropped a few recently and could end up losing their spot. Posted by: Hew | April 1, 2008 1:17 PM | Report abuse

Its easy to paint over the lines and ads on the ice.

They just do a dry cut down to the paint and throw a layer of white over it...or they paint the current layer white and lay down more ice on top since figure skating ice needs to be a bit thicker than hockey ice.

But for all other events you put polyfoam floorboards or some variation of that down then put your other surface on top..such as a basketball court.

The circus shouldnt have effected the ice that badly..im sure all will be ok. If anything the ice is a bit dirty so when the boards come up, you do a few dry cuts then go about business as usual

There's no way that BB will allow them to start flatfooted, they will come flying out at the drop of the puck at 7:08 tonight. My fear is if the nerves cause them to start "grippin' too tight on their sticks," which could lead to those dumb penalties.

From here on out, each game is the most important game of the season. When they lose track of that, then they will lose. But for now, no chance have they lost it... I think they are more fired up than ever. I think they need to come out and score first... this will be key in this game.

May Ovechkin rise supreme upon the crease of Ward and inflict a deserved ice wash and top shelf netter. May Staal falter and find himself in the sinbin and allow Semin a chance of redemption. And allow Huet, the chosen one, to go unscathed as he protectsour home. In short oh Deity of the Deke, our boys need a win tonight!!!!

OK, so if (when?!?) we make it, who is hitting the road?? I am up for it - even have a friend or two who would like to join me. I don't care where it is - if I can break away (and get tickets :-/), I am going to do it! Anyone else?

BTW, are we there yet?!?

Meaningful Hockey in Washington in April, how awesome is that? See you all tonight! GO CAPS!

Posted by: on ice | April 1, 2008 1:46 PM | Report abuse

@ Greenie

yeah.. i know. didn't want to go overboard. Just a little light humor to easy the tension.

The Maddenism is a hilarious thought. Made me chuckle.

On a side note: Anyone watch the Rangers Pitt game last night. The Rangers powerplay reminded me of the Caps the first 22 games of the season. 5-3 and they passed the puck back and forth at the point for 2 minutes, shot 2 wide, 0 shots on net. Made me SOOO glad that BB is our coach.

No matter what, this has been an awesome year to be a fan, and the outlook can't be any better. We finally have a team in Washington to be really proud of.

Old Time Hockey - Ok well I'll compromise, how about you take Loc, Madden, scratch Joe B. (just for the sake of argument here) and put Smokin' Al in there to mediate and bring a hint of integrity to the mix? Just for entertainment value.

I bet it will feel awesome for the Caps to be home again - especially in this environment... hope that is the edge for tonights game. I don't care who we play tonight... Pitt, you can have seconds... don't care... we are going to be some good Caps hockey. T-minus: 5 hours.

I hope they have the blue line painted well because the blue line is our last line of defense and the blue line is where our defensemen line up and draw a line in the sand but hockey is played on ice and you cant draw a line in the ice thats why there's a blue line.

btw... be careful of your screen name or we might have to have a METAL-off \nn/

Dear Hockey Gods,

Let us execute our game plan, stay focused, minimize turnovers and penalties.

I also pray for lucky rebounds for us and bad rebounds for Canes.

Because we didn't have too many breaks so far, let flyers, sens, bruins, canes and whoever else is needed to lose for us just once.

Allow me to unleash my half slapper and score the go ahead goal, I haven't done it for a long time. And maybe help me to deliver the highlight hit so that the next day people would say "did you see Papa Schultz' bone-crushing hit on Canes player?"

Let me be there for the team like the team will be there for me.

re: watching games online...

I was stuck in Austin last week for work and purchased a one game center ice online deal from nhl.com. It was $15 which seemed too expensive, but it was the last Caps-Canes game and I was desperate. The quality was definitely not good, but I would say good enough (even with a pretty high speed connection). Let's just say I would do it again, but only if I had no other recourse. You can find it on nhl.com and then go to multimedia link at top of page. Hope that helps.

Tarik and Sombrero,

Cox also argued incorrectly that if the Caps don't get in it would indicate that OV wasn't ultimately "the difference"-- totally absurd. OV was the only Cap to score for the first 25 games, exacly why we're in this hole now... and what does he have, 20% of our goals still? 26 pts in last 14 games of push?

Both Engblom and Jones said last night its OV's becasue he's meant most to the league, in terms of new audiences, everything... that's exacly the point. he's definitely been Most Valuable to the league this year...

Please push that point out there Tarik....

It's a no-brainer. Ovechkin is the MVP. No one is even close, not Brodeur, not Malkin, not Iginla, not anyone. It's Ovechkin. The thing that does it for me is that not only has he put up those bodacious numbers, he's basically been the captain of this Caps team since early November when Clarkie went down for the year.

Let's Go Caps!!!

Glad to hear about Huet, but a little disappointed at the intelligence level of the media. Last time i checked MVP stood for most valuable PLAYER, not most valuable player on a team that makes the playoffs and i don't anyone would disagree that Ovechkin has been the best player in the NHL this year. Remind me again why there is any question at this point....

It's astounding, time is fleeting
Madness takes its toll
But listen closely, not for very much longer
I've got to keep control

I remember doing the TIme Warp
Drinking those moments when
The blackness would hit me and the void would be calling
Let's do the time warp again...
Let's do the time warp again!

I'd have taken those tickets off your hands, if I wasn't 3000 miles away, DOH!

Come on boys!

I've been trying to come up with some chants for tonight, i.e. doctor some Man United songs to fit for Caps but I'm not sure any of you would know the tunes.

Hey where's Mauree and his "Forza Roma" now!! hehe my Italian friend. Lets hope your other team wins tonight for you!

Posted by: Dave UK Caps Fan | April 1, 2008 4:42 PM | Report abuse

So...

Entering play Tuesday night, Ovechkin leads the League in goals (62), points (109), power-play goals (21), game-winning goals (10) and shots (430).

Is that all? Why should he be named MVP? I can't believe this is still a discussion!

Posted by: Greg S. | April 1, 2008 4:42 PM | Report abuse

This is the Canes last chance to win the SE for a very long time. The Caps will be at least as good next year as they have been since Thanksgiving this season, and that means over 100 points, easily capturing the division. That will hold true for years to come. Let's hope it starts NOW.

Like I said, I've got my season tickets :) so I'm not overly concerned. He was saying that he checked ticketmaster and all that was left was club level...if that's true there's gonna be one helluva red sea tonight!

The best part of red outs is how easy it is for us gingers...though white outs weren't too hard either.

will not be at the game tonight as i sold my tix at the beginning of the season (to caps fans). would love to be there in red but will watch in beautiful hi def. couple thoughts:

if EVER the caps were going to get the calls from the refs, it would be tonight. you know the NHL wants OV in the playoffs. you know they don't want a stupid controversy over ovie and the MVP award or BB for adams if they don't make it. you know they would DIE for OV vs Sidney in the playoffs.

OV MVP sounds like a good chant tonight. can someone get the word to goat that it would sound good in addition to lets go caps.

Cooke's goal was a fairly close-ranged shot with Ward screened by two of his defensemen and Semin.

Semin and Flash...

They were both big reasons for the 2-0 lead.

Semin looks like Selke finalist out there...

sorry maybe I explained myself not correctly.

1) run sopcast, log in, paste that link
2) wait for buffer - when it plays you'll see its screen flick
3) at that point run VLC - then:
file>open network stream
check http and put the address I put.

This young man has had a very trying rookie season, what with the litigation, the notoriety, his subsequent deportation to Sweden, and that country's refusal to accept him. That's more than most 20-year-olds could handle.

Ovechkin went after Staal for that tap on Huet because he's done that once already tonite and did it in the last game. He got a goaltender interference call in the last game. Way to go OV. Laviolette can get red in the face all he wants but Staal got what's been coming to him.

Laviolette must learn three things:

One, your players play DIRTY, so stop crying about the officiating.

Two, you can't STOP Ovechkin.

Three, you sucked as coach of the USA Olympic team. :)

the call needed to be made on Ovie. But I don't mind the call. That is Ovie sticking up for his team and being the first guy in to not let that $@&% go unpunished. Sends a message to both benches. Most prima donna scorers would never do that. They let someone else do it for them.

@jordan (and anyone else unable to watch)

slick goal by semin!

green fanned on a shot down low
but he was able to make a pass
from the right to left of the goal.
Semin took the high pass off his chest,
down to his skate, then onto his stick and he quickly snapped the puck into
the roof of the net over the
prone Cam Ward.

Great to see that kind of poise from #28.

Probably from the Sears in Hershey.

Posted by: markfromparkville | April 1, 2008 9:21 PM | Report abuse

I'm a Caps fan (not the earlier Canes fan). Here's a more optimistic scenario. Ottawa lose tonight (they are well on their way), Caps win next two, and Ottawa lose one of their next two.... which means the impossible will have happened. Ottawa, who was leading the Eastern Conference, will have ceded their playoff spot to the cellar dwelling Caps. What a story!

I think Locker was accurate. A questionable call for such a key game. Although it would be nice to have true homers for announcers, it is refreshing to have announcers that are fair. I listen to so many on Center Ice and some are just ridiculous. Correction, most are. Probably comes from Joe being a national announcer on Versus. He needs to be fair.

When Staal tipped Huet OV looked like he was going to punch him into tomorrow - Fedorov rushed in and stopped him in time. I thought that was really cool.

Posted by: CT Caps Fan | April 1, 2008 10:18 PM | Report abuse

Oh, my freakin' god!! This is awesome!

So now we get to tie breakers. It's on point, then it goes:

1. Games won
2. Greater number of points between tied teams
3. Goal differential

As it stands now, they have one more win than we do. I'll check on the rest in a minute.

Posted by: Greg S. | April 1, 2008 10:20 PM | Report abuse

Greg S.

I really think we messed with their heads and I think TB is going to beat them tomorrow night... however, TB might be looking for that number one pick, but then again, they would only have a 50% chance to get it if they finished last.

Man, I hope they play their hearts out tomorrow night and suck when they play us.

Posted by: 828 | April 1, 2008 10:23 PM | Report abuse

Great two points tonight.

Huet allows just one. Cooke with a goal. Federov with 2 assists.

But the job's not even close to done yet. No let up allowed against Tampa Bay and Florida.

Those are still must wins.

So if we go 1-1, and the Canes go 0-0-2, who gets in?

Posted by: Anonymous | April 1, 2008 10:37 PM | Report abuse

@mauree - It was electric - like the old days at the Cap center during the playoffs. A sea of red. Nice when it's all our fans, too. As loud as it's been in years. Best was right after Ovie's goal, when everyone started chanting "M-V-P!" in unison. Chanted for a couple minutes, then subsided, then when play started again, the chant started again.

Huet's save in the 2nd was the turning point. One of those rare saves that makes you jump up and cheer. He is winning games for us.

My throat is sore from all the yelling. What a great game.

Posted by: katzistan | April 1, 2008 10:40 PM | Report abuse

If we tie Ottowa in points, do we get in because of the head-to-head?

Posted by: RVA | April 1, 2008 10:41 PM | Report abuse

@10:37 PM

The Canes would still get in because of they have more pts against us.

Posted by: mauree | April 1, 2008 10:42 PM | Report abuse

HUGE WIN!

If the Caps can win the last two, the odds are beginning to tilt in their favor.

Carolina has to finish their back-to-back tomorrow. (still, lets give then a 75% chance to win both games).

Ottawa has to play a back-to-back that finishes with Boston. (say, 60% chance to get 3 pts out of their last two)

Boston has NJ, then Ottawa and Buffalo on a back-to-back. (say, 70% chance they get the 4 pts to beat out the Caps)

Philly has NJ and 2 x Pittsburgh left. (they also need 4 pts to beat out the Caps, let's be generous and give them a 50% chance as a desperate team).

With all these pretty conservative (as far as the Caps are concerned) estimates, the chance of at least one of these things NOT happening and thus the Caps making the playoffs, (if they can win their last two)
is:

1-.75*.60*.70*.50 = 85% (ok, 84.25)

Caps are playing awesome and play two crappy teams at home with both these teams finishing a back-to-back (!), so let's give them at least Carolina's 75% chance to win both home games. Then you could say that the overall odds of Caps making the playoffs are at least:

.85 * .75 = 64%

So I think its a pretty damn conservative estimate to say that the Caps have a good 2 in 3 odds of making the playoffs.

(You might ask why Boston and Philly have to get 4 pts each to beat the Caps, since they both own the head-to-head tie-breakers against us, but if they only get 3 pts, the Caps will have more wins and so will win both the tie-breakers!)

OK. This is sick...

As it stands now, we're tied in points. So we go to tie breakers.

1. Games won
Carolina Hurricanes 81 42 33 6
Washington Capitals 81 42 31 8
IT"S A TIE!

2. Greater number of points between tied teams
I did the math. We've played eachother 8 times. Any guess as to the record? 4-4. IT"S A TIE!!

3. Goal differential
Carolina has 241 goals for.
Washington has 231 goals for.

We're short by 10. They lead.

Just getting back from the Booth.

The place was red and it was rocking. Lots of ovations, lots of chants. Hopefully the excitement came across the broadcast.

So what happened with Mo?

Posted by: keef | April 1, 2008 11:32 PM | Report abuse

Greetings. Late getting back from the game due to extended pain in the hand from banging on the glass.

1. Bad News: News from the arena is Mo is in bad shape. Doubtful for next two games, maybe longer. Good news: Mr. Eminger, would you mind getting Mr. Lepisto's bags off the bus please? Seriously, hit was forty feet from me. Looks like a dislocation. Clearly uncomfortable. If the swelling isn't down by Thursday don't expect him until the playoffs, maybe longer. Caps declined to make statement about his condition which is a bad sign. Maybe its a "Body Injury".

2. Wow, that was fun. When they showed Ovie on the screen early on, he waved to the audience on as in "cheer more!" The crowd responded. Awesome. I actually think he could be elected viceroy of the metro area right now.

3. The M-V-P chant after the goal was great. Started with the OV, OV chant and migrated to the MVP chant. I now believe the Hart is his. If we miss the playoffs, the remaining votes get split among Iginla, Brodeur, Malkin and OV wins anyway. And, that is just.

4. Semin's goal (13 feet in front of me) was so pretty. His hooking penalty not so much. Almost got the Semin hat trick.

5. Ice was beyond awful. Thin, really rutted, puddled, and serious holes (perhaps down to the concrete) by the end of the game. Looked like pond skating in Miami - in May. But, the lines looked freshly painted. That's important when skating on two inches of frozen slush.

6. Cancel the tee times for next week. We're going.

Posted by: old time hockey | April 1, 2008 11:32 PM | Report abuse

There's a lot of complicated math going on, but it's really pretty simple: If Boston loses tomorrow in regulation, and the Caps win out, then we're almost certainly in the playoffs. This is because Boston and Ottawa play each other once, and they both can't get two points in that game. If that game goes to OT, then OK, that might cause some trouble. But if Boston loses in regulation tomorrow, regardless of what happens in the other games, the Caps are virtually assured of getting in if they win both games.

Posted by: jammand | April 1, 2008 11:33 PM | Report abuse

I'm a humble guy but i gotta take some credit -- i started getting the 413 section thinking about an "MVP" chant late in the 2nd and then early in the third. sure enough, Ovechkin's goal is what finally got everyone in my section involved. Soon, the chant was cascading down through the arena. I'm proud of giving my all to try to get a chant going for a player who deserves it more than anyone I've ever seen. IN ANY SPORT. Second best sporting event I've ever been to (only behind beating Pittsburgh 1-0 on a Bondra PP goal in Game 1 of the playoffs in 2000-01 season). That said, ANY playoff game with this squad would be the best sporting event I could possibly imagine.

Wow. Cole and Laviolette were pissed (not that I can say I blame them). Wesley kept a level head at least, seemed to be much more receptive.

Posted by: Raber | April 1, 2008 11:47 PM | Report abuse

I agree. Cole and Laviolette were peeved. I thought Laviolette was going to blow a gasket on the bench at some of the calls. I think the officiating was lopsided in our favor. Thanks - FINALLY - but that's no way to win a game.

Again, though. The lads looked relaxed out there. I wonder if that's Fedorov's calming influence, or the fact that many of the Caps won under Coach B in Hershey, and they know what to expect.

Posted by: Greg S. | April 1, 2008 11:55 PM | Report abuse

I don't think the officiating was tilted. I think the Canes got called for cheap shots they took. We had some phantom calls against us, and they had some iffy calls go against them. It went both ways

Posted by: Sombrero Guy | April 2, 2008 12:03 AM | Report abuse

Just watched the Canes videos - I agree with Raber's assessment (if that is what Raber was referring to?!?). I wish I could have seen Laviolette during the game so that I knew what everyone was talking about - maybe they will have it on NHL on the Fly .... Regardless, it did seem like they could not catch a break with the officials tonight, but that has happened to us so many times that it is hard to feel bad about it, ya know?!?

OH! The Caps post-game interviews are up - check it out (www.nhl.tv).

I wish I was at that game. I tried to buy tix too late, the only available ones were $225 each! I hope thursday's game will be as intense and fun as this one coz I'll be there.

Bottom line is...we still need to win the last 2 games. I saw the way the team lazily played around with the puck when they were up 4-1. They can't do that! They need to keep focusing and pressuring the other team until the horn sounds. We need to play as intense against the Bolts and Cats as we did tonight! Remember, we still can lose those games.

The Caps' post-game interviews are great - all the guys are talking about the fans and how loud the building was! :-D Ovie said it was the best crowd he had ever seen, and both Fed and Green said they had never heard a building that loud (hard to believe from Fed?!?). Huh ... I think they have an old interview posted for Huet ... must be an April Fools!! ;-)

Posted by: Boo! | April 2, 2008 12:28 AM | Report abuse

Wow! What a great game!!! Due to a late start, I saw the 1st period on TV and arrived 8 minutes into the 2nd. It was great to see the sea of red. The energy was awesome and it was fun having Horn Guy in my section. Even on TV, I could here how loud VC was. I could hear Goat and Horn Guy complimenting the tone for the Cap Fan energy. The fans were loud. VC has missed that kind of volume. When Semin scored that PPG in the 2nd...I thought the roof was going to explode. And then Ovie scores in the 3rd with the "ding" of the right post. The Caps continue to play as a team and are winning as a team. This playoff chase is crazy and very exciting. I agree with fellow posters that the Caps will not be "golfing" next week but playing for Lord Stanley's Cup. and I look forward to Thursday night. Let's Go CAPS!!!!!!

BTW, BB also said that the ice was bad, but that he was not surprised since it had been out for weeks - he closed by saying he expects it to get better.

Just finished watching the videos on nhl.tv. A couple of thoughts: Man, it was clear Cole wanted to be as far away from those reporters as possible. Props to Wesley for being calm and professional about it. Laviolette can go somewhere, although he seems to have calmed down slightly. haha
Bruce Boudreau is my hero. Our ice may suck, but we've got more experience playing on sucky ice than anyone else. Would the score be different if the ice had been top-notch (even for VC)? Journey is great; glad Nick requested it. I'm a Huet fan (not picking sides, I just think he's great). I'm a Cooke fan, too. Ovie makes me laugh, even if he's being dead serious. The word chippy makes me laugh too. Still can't figure out why Greenie makes me think of my brother. I'm starting to covet Fed's touque. Oh, and I love the Caps.

May we play Thursday and Saturday with fervor and eloquence. May we continue to be pestiferous to anyone in our way. And may there be much jollification in DC this weekend!

Let's Go Caps!!!

Wow. I can't believe BB said it was the loudest he had ever heard a building. I especially am shocked that Feds echoed that sentiment. I salute those of you who helped contribute, and am kicking myself for being out of town this week

Good night all! Enjoy your day off tomorrow as much as a day without the Capitals can be enjoyed. I will be getting score updates all through the lecture I am being forced to attend! May the Devils, Lightning, and *grimace* Pens be victorious tomorrow!

Let's go Caps!!
