Who is Steckel? A Zamboni driver? A mascot man?

I knew they would. I called it on Sunday.

First, go Freddy! I think Johnson is a great guy but on average, his play has been fair. Freddy deserves the chance, especially after backstopping the Bears to a Calder. And Tarik, great quote.

Poor Bears tho...they are depleted.

LOL. The way the Leafs have been playing tho, we might have a chance (I am trying to be as optimistic as possible...)

Steckel is a Great player, who the bears need for the road trip this weekend, Washington has already called up (or traded in Nycholat'e case) all of Hershey First line. Don't get me wrong I know that the Caps are hurting but so are the bears and we have a post season to think of that will not envolve golf like the Caps' will.

Posted by: Hersheygurl90 | March 6, 2007 6:18 PM | Report abuse

If Steckel were a great player he would have been in DC all year

Posted by: Mike P | March 6, 2007 6:30 PM | Report abuse

This is exactly the point.

"Stop calling our AHL team players up to your AHL team! At least our AHL team has a chance to win something this year. You still have Mr. Slapshot who hasn't played yet."

It's time the Washington team starts wearing the Hershey jerseys. Two and a half season of minor leaguers equals three seasons without playoffs.

A thrifty minor league roster. Bears and Caps have become one.

Minor league team should mean minor league ticket prices.

We need some NHL players in town. Tarik was right that Washington has the fewest NHL-caliber players in the league. Leonsis may be working on a 20-year plan at this rate.

If Leonsis can't find any real talent, at least find someone with a name resembling an NHL player a la Joe Sacco.

Pothier is worse than Doig!

Posted by: Anonymous | March 6, 2007 10:25 PM | Report abuse

Can it become more pathetic? Let's give Ovechkin and Semin a day off. Let's see what the entire Bears roster can do.
I just cannot bear to watch it. Did you watch the coach's press conference after the game? Bear H said something like "they are focusing on Alex's and we can't score." Damn right! It's time to realize tht you're playing in the NHL! Mr. Leonsis, if you don't want the team, if you're losing so much money (you constantly moan about it), if you don't like the fans who don't want to pay their hard erned $ to watch this AHL team beat bad by NHL teams not even in the top 8, please please please sell the team to someone who will care! I am sure there will be some buyers. People who truly love the game. Right now, you're like a man in bed with a woman thinking of another one. Get the Wizards already and stop torturing us - hockey fans. Enough of this rebuilding crap. What are you rebuilding with? Career AHLers? With all due respect... It is just getting worse for me as well as a lot of others I know. It is painful and embarassing.

Posted by: Finn | March 6, 2007 11:58 PM | Report abuse

Ouch. For a lot of the game, it just looked like the guys were sitting back. Tough to understand when a fan (such as myself:) cares enough about a team to watch all the away games and spend a lot of dough on season tix.

I thought Cassivi did really well and was let down by his teamates, granted they are majority AHLers playing against NHLers.

My thinking is he should be starting instead of Johnson.

TARIK: any chance of that?

I fell asleep at the begining of the 2nd period. I guess I was just lucky.

Won't it be funny to see the Phone Booth deserted for one of the games? Ted will blame the fans, I am sure.

And do you know what giveaway we will all get if we show up for the fan appreciation night? A Hershey Teddy Bear. "Thanks for your support! We screwed you over! Again! See ya next year, suckers!"

Finn, I dont know if you made it to any of last week's Tues/Thurs games but the place was deserted. It was the saddest looking arena. And I dont know how you cultivate new hockey fans with a losing team.

Posted by: LB | March 7, 2007 10:17 AM | Report abuse

congrats capital fanatic, thats something to get really excited about

Posted by: Anonymous | March 7, 2007 10:21 AM | Report abuse

You don't. Ted thinks he will though. just like AOL trying to sell dial up at $20 or something like that.

That is why I stopped paying my $50 about two months ago. Enough is enough. Better the product. Show me that it works. And then MAYBE I will get a FREE sample before I spend my hard earned $ to watch this team's ice skating with sticks. It amazes me when they used to announce attendance at Caps' home games. Do they count everybody? Security officers? ticket sales people, concession stand attendants? Everybody physically in the building?

Ted is trying to sell 3000 season tickets. That's his plan. Good luck not losing 3000 season tickets next year. So sad. And there's nothing we can do. The numbers of true hockey fans are shrinking in this city. And Ted and GMGM are to thank for it.

Posted by: Finn | March 7, 2007 10:26 AM | Report abuse

What are they even playing for anymore. The whole team disappeared. at least last year the team had an identity, especially going into april, they had some optimism for the next year. I dont even know what im watching anymore its embarrassing and disgraceful and they completely lost their hard working identity. their rebuilding has taken a step BACKWARDS and it horrifies me

Posted by: Anonymous | March 7, 2007 10:28 AM | Report abuse

caps fans are fools.

Indeed. For believing in lies and paying their money

Posted by: Finn | March 7, 2007 12:44 PM | Report abuse

Am I the only one wondering if "caphcky" and "Finn" are the same person?

I was there tuesday night. The crowd wasn't great, but it wasn't "deserted" either. Empty seats on a tuesday night in DC aren't exactly a new phenomenon, nor do they spell doom and gloom for the team in the long run. Even the Philadelphia game back in January on a tuesday was fairly empty. Do you guys, or gals, really get off on being so negative all the time?

Posted by: EricS | March 7, 2007 1:39 PM | Report abuse

Do you get off on fooling yourself with so-called positivity? Be realistic. Or believe in the "rebuild" with the AHL talent

Posted by: Finn | March 7, 2007 1:44 PM | Report abuse

Ted Lameonsis is scared of facing the season ticket holders tonights so he scheduled some "appearances" so he doesn't have to face the negativity. What a joke!

Posted by: Finn | March 7, 2007 1:47 PM | Report abuse

Oh, for Pete Peeters' sake. I saw emptier houses and lamer play when we was chock full of $11m czechs. Ted and GMGM told us exactly what to expect after they dumped Jagr, the big baby: the Caps were going to stock up on talented kids who they could afford to *keep*. THEN they were going to add experience and Talent from elsewhere. THEN they were going to chase some tin.

The first stage is complete--just ask the AHL. The Caps at the very beginning of the second stage. Jurcina and Novotny and July give us room to hope. What's a fan but someone who hopes?

If what you want from your team is for the owner to spend wild and fruitless money on "name brand" carpetbaggers, then stick with the 10-years pathetic, no-cohesion, no-playoff, no-account, arrogant, fanscrewing Deadskins. Big Fat payroll, famous players, and I hear the house is always full...they must be awesome.

Posted by: redlined | March 7, 2007 2:25 PM | Report abuse

The 'Skin did make the playoffs for the 2005 season and did win a playoff game, but otherwise it's been alot of floping miserably over there.

Ted said a few weeks back that he had commitments, among them a funeral, that he had to make it to that had overridden the season's ticket holder event. The man does have a life apart from owning the Caps, however much ownership of said team consumes his life.

Rebuilding a frachise from the bottom up is a very long process. Heck, look at the O's. Comparatively the Caps are moving alot faster with their rebuild.

Personally, I will still be going to game through the end of the year, enjoying my bird's eye view a cheering for the guys. being a fan of them does mean sticking with them, even fro mthe cheap seats, unless the owner really shows that they just don't give a hoot like in Chicago.

Posted by: EricS | March 7, 2007 4:25 PM | Report abuse

im glad you have so much hope in novotny because the team doesnt. I havent checked recently but as of a couple of days ago no one even thought enough of him to add him to the roster found directly on the team home page. But you better believe zubrus, zednik and heward were nowhere to be found. Thats not only confusing but pathetic.

Posted by: Anonymous | March 7, 2007 6:36 PM | Report abuse

Yes, the Caps are truly pathetic. And, lilke all losing enterprises, it starts at the top. "Once biten, twice shy." That seems to be the owner's mind set when it comes to spending money. But, the real culprit, in my view, is GMGM. The guy's assesment of hockey talent is pitiful. And, don't try and blame it on his scouts ( Granted, they're sorry as can be ) because it's George Mc Phee who has the final say.
What really irks me is GMGM's refusal to admit how poorly he has drafted these last six or seven years. Instead, he continues with the Sutherbys, Gordons ( If he's worth a 1st. round pick, I'm a tree )and Emingers. Truly laughable.
Finally, will somebody PLEASE, PLEASE rid us of this Olie Kolzig guy. I've always felt he's just good enough to break your heart. Period. As one contributor said earlier, "You'll certainly never get him confused with Martin Brodeur.
And, please Ted. Stop belly aching about money. If you can't stand the heat, PLEASE, PLEASE GET OUT OF THE KITCHEN!!!!!
