Mike Green out against Tampa Bay

By Katie Carrera

Coach Bruce Boudreau said that defenseman Mike Green won't play against the Lightning in today's tilt at Verizon Center. In Carolina this week, Green said it's something that's bothered him in the past and isn't getting better. Earlier this season Green missed three games with what was believed to be a shoulder injury. The team has recalled Brian Fahey from Hershey and he will play, as will Tom Poti who has been in and out of the lineup all season.

Mike Knuble, who said yesterday he believed he would play against Tampa Bay after missing three games because of a broken jaw, will take warm up and be a game-time decision, Boudreau said.

I'll post the lineup once we see the exact mix that Boudreau's using tonight in warm up.

You'll be missed tonight Green!! However, this team needs to play the full 60 minutes, TB is on fire right now!

Sounds like Green may have some bone chips in that shoulder floating around and every once in a while they get in a position that is giving him fits. If this is the case he may have been told that it could be cleaned up after the season but I would much rather see him gone for a month now and have a healthy Green come April. Plus that would most likely force GMGM to go out and get the dman we have all been screaming for.

Hate to say it, but without Green playing against this team, we are not going to fair well. Hope I am wrong, but this is a bad team to not have Green in there who can clear the zone.

OK, with Green out, and him being really our only first pair D man, it means we are going with a second pair (Poti & Schultz) as the first pair and a third pair (beacuase they are rookies, Carlson and Alzner) as the seond pair and a fourth pair (Ersk and Fahey, if you avg Ersk being a #6 and Fahey being an 8 or 9) as our third pair. Of course, every coach always says injuries are opportunities for players to step up. And that can work to some extent. But when a team only has one first pair D man, and that player is hurt, you can see our chances are lessened.
