Theodore To Start: Semin To Return (Update)

Jose Theodore will return to the nets for tonight's game against the Rangers.

A couple of other quick observations:

*A couple of fans held a Slovakia sign in the crowd here at KCI as a salute to their homeland's upset victory over Team USA in the world junior championships yesterday.

*Bengt Gustafsson, the Swedish national team coach, was in the house standing on the Caps' bench during the skate.

*The Rangers are not skating this morning because of the Georgetown-Pitt basketball game at Verizon Center.

Tom Poti, Tomas Fleischmann, Alexander Semin and Sergei Fedorov all spent varying amounts of time on the ice today. None are expected back in the lineup tonight, though Fleischmann appears to be on track to return Tuesday against the Flyers.

Update:Because Alexandre Giroux is skating with the scratches, that likely means he's out tonight. It also means someone is back. No one knows for sure, but it seem to me it might be Semin. He skated pretty hard, looked pretty good and came off early.

Update:Coach Bruce Boudreau just said he's hoping Semin can come back tonight. He's going to take warm up and then make a decision.

I'll have more shortly.

Should be a good game tonight.

This is an important game, but am a little nervous about the ice. Georgetown better finish Pitt off in record time!

Jamie Heward is, and always was, a class act. I am sure he knew how significant his remarks would be. Takes real class to comment the way he did.

don't toy with us tarik lol. gosh i hope it's semin, if there is anyone we need against the rangers its him. that'd be awesome if it were sasha!! in any event let's go caps!

Also concerned about the ice conditions tonight given the afternoon basketball. We can only hope that "someone" is Semin.

Tarik, I read about your adventures in the VC parking lot in the Tampa writer's blog. Hope your car is OK.

@Kim-3 - Oh jeez! Yikes. We have a basketball game at noon, and a hockey game at 7:00? Yeah, that makes the ice a problem. Ugh.

I am hoping against hope that Semin is not trying to come back too early again. The Rangers are a rough team.

With all the money spent on the team during the reconstruction era, why isn't there a greater push for better ice! Its not like there is a big disconnect between MCI and the team, like in other cities. It seems that would be a priority!

Yeah, figured it'd be Theodore. He'd be the logical choice.

If it is Semin, let's hope that he's fully healthy. If so, awesome. If not, I'd rather he stay out until he's fully healthy. Same with Flash, although having 8-19-25 AND 14-92-28 back against the Flyers could be good stuff.

Sincerely looking forward to tonight. Here's to more of JT60's solid goaltending and a full 60-minute effort.

I'll be there in Section 119. I'll be the old guy with my Christmas gift Semin Jersey.

that is awesome.

i read the post, and then say come on semin, and now he might be back!

I trust BB and the staff - if Semin can skate, he will. Even though the Fedorov on/off with the ankle is troubling, remember that Semin took at stick to the lower back that put him out again. I think they believe he was ready when he came back against the Blues and I think they may believe he's ready tonight. I'll be there for warmups...it'll be nice to see another injured Cap back in action.

I'm sure Semin shrugged his shoulders and mumbled something as he headed off the ice. He doesn't say much, does he?

The rangers and especially the flyers are going to be taking serious runs at Semin - people will gladly take two minutes for a check/cross-check to his back. I kind of wish he'd wait for columbus.

I for one love the fact that the Rangers cant take their morning skate cause of the basketball game. Couldn't have happened to a nicer organization.

Here's to picking up where we left off at MSG and just handing it to them.

I hate bad ice, but if its choppy out there we can muck it up with the best of them. I dont think Semin is coming back too early, if anything I think this more than enough time for him to heal. I am developing this impression (real or not) that is is not that tough, and fairly ineffective when playing hurt. I hope I am wrong about that. All the talent in the world means nothing if you cant stay on the ice and I hope he can stay relatively healthy for the rest of his career and remain with the Caps. If however he is truly soft, I will be sorry to see him go. All that being said....ahem...

GO CAPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Glad to hear that Semin was skating hard, but Flash being back already? Obviously I can only go off of what Tarik and Katie have posted but this seems a bit early for both of them. We don't need to rush anyone back at all.

Agree with hook99, the rangers and especially the Filthadelphia Flyers will be trying to hurt Semin again.

BTW, I am not going to be able to make the game tonight, and have ST in Section 117, Row W, Seats 3 & 4, (right below the Acela and behind Theo for the 1st and 3rd.) Let me know if anyone wants them: mmcnea75@gmail.com

Bengt Gustafsson? Really? He was always one of my favorite Caps. I should have gotten up early to watch practice.

ranndino, I definitely know what you're saying about McGuire, but that's also my own observations. Zhelobnyuk was giving up ridiculous rebounds and got lucky on *a lot* of shots. I'm no goalie or goalie coach, but to me, you want to be stopping those and depending less on your athleticism to roll around in your crease trying to get ahold of the rebound that you lost 2 and 3 times. He had a couple of sequences there that the Czechs should have cashed in on.
Good to hear Semin is recovered enough for them to think he can play, but I'm still going to be worried.

OK everyone, rehash the ice issue again. Maybe someone can even tell us what a great guy Abe Polin is again even though he refuses to invest in anything Caps related.

You mean other than the arena itself, right?

Hopefully Semin is back.

I hope to god they dont rush him or Fedorov, we need our 2nd line at 100% come playoff-time.

Fingers crossed for Semin!
