Tarik are you aware of this "Tarik Camera Charity Fundraiser" going on?

Not bad at all. I like it.

Former Cap might have bit off more than he could chew: http://msn.foxsports.com/tennis/pgStory?contentId=9081972&MSNHPHCP>1=39002#sport=TENNIS&photo=9079390

Now that I've actually seen it though, I think he might have been okay. Getzlaf didn't connect on much.

Posted by: jmu_capsgirl | January 16, 2009 5:48 PM | Report abuse

What manner of journalistic alchemy allowed this multimedia apparition to appear given Tarik doesn't have a camera?

Is there a second WaPost cameraman in the grassy knoll somewhere?

Posted by: austinsteve | January 16, 2009 5:49 PM | Report abuse

i have been made aware. i would laugh, but my sides hurt too bad from coughing. the good news is that i'm feeling 75% better than I was this morning.

Posted by: el_bashir | January 16, 2009 5:49 PM | Report abuse

maybe a collection for a video camera for TEB is in order.
TEB - any special make/model you desire?

Let's hope a new mask means shutting down Boston's top two lines. They have been beyond hot, the only saving grace is that Kessel is out, but Krecji seems to have picked up the slack and then some. A low scoring game should favor the Caps like last time they played.....But boy would a wide open game be exciting for Hockey fans.

I know it's old news but as a Hockey fan who enjoys watching great players on all teams, even Caps fans have to admit that Malkin is an awesome player. You don't lead the league in points and assists while playing on a marginal team and not be damn good. Malkin, for the most part, plays fair and honest and let's his play on the ice speak for him, unlike Crosby that is so use to getting unrelenting praise that the second someone questions his play he starts the whinning. Moving on.

No one is really talking about what an awesome undercover game Laich had against the Pens. He had what seemed like unlimited chances and finally got some great screens on the PP. He is due for a couple of classic garbage goals. He could be the secret weapon vs Boston.

Let's go CAPS!!!

Nice!!

A definite improvement from the current mask.

Posted by: TrappedinGA | January 16, 2009 6:03 PM | Report abuse

Nice mask design.

However, I think that paint job will only last another ... oh say, one and a half years.

Posted by: Cerealman | January 16, 2009 6:07 PM | Report abuse

tarik,

was that you adding a little lupe fiasco in the video?

Posted by: _stevo | January 16, 2009 6:10 PM | Report abuse

sweet mask

Posted by: bearsfan26 | January 16, 2009 6:14 PM | Report abuse

Watching the replay of the Bruins vs Islander game from last night and the NESN announcer praised the Caps offense as explosive and specifically refered to a healthy Alex Semin as "scary". Thought that was very interesting...Caps getting some respect.

Posted by: CaliforniaCapsFan | January 16, 2009 6:26 PM | Report abuse

Nice mask, but it seems like he just FINALLY got his other one - why the change?

Posted by: --Boo-- | January 16, 2009 6:40 PM | Report abuse

Impressive. I think I like Theo's new grill better than Olie's (Godzilla mask). My compliments to the artist!

Tarik, did we just get a piece of your personal life with your music choice. nice hat. cant wait to see it on his head. 2009 is the year of hope. hope this changes three or more.

@Z-Money (repeated post)

Welcome aboard! I caught the fever during Season 1 (8-67-5) and never lost it. If you ever want to talk about Ivan Labre, Bernie Wolfe & company, I'm here. Otherwise, get your beer, pick your seat, and enjoy the ride!

Can't tell exactly, but this appears to be an Itech mask (despite the painted Nike Bauer logo), whereas his blue lid is a Protechsport. He's used both in the past, so not too surprising he's giving 'em both a try. Both look great IMHO ... I'm a fan of the home and away masks, a la Marty Turco.

Posted by: terrapin2930 | January 16, 2009 7:11 PM | Report abuse

My guess is that the video was courtesy of Brett "Stretch" Leonhardt who does a lot of the video and web stuff. That came from the NHL's site, not WaPo. Tarik linked to it.

Update: 28 pledges for a total of $280. I've told people to hold off sending money until we know how/if to proceed.

Your move WaPo Editors. Shall we combine finances to get Tarik a sweet digital camera and take WaPo coverage to the next level?

Posted by: SombreroGuy | January 16, 2009 7:17 PM | Report abuse

SombreroGuy:
i'm thinking you have enough to start looking for a camera/video combo. and maybe another 'cool' hat.

Hopefully the new nickname for Theo from now on will be Three-or-less. I think we can deal with that.

Sorry to hear Tarik you are day-to-day with an "upper body situation." I did hear that your editors ordered you not to discuss your condition with others in the media.

Semin: "Sometimes people get a cold, and the league chooses to make a really big deal out of it. Take Crosby. If he gets a cold, you get a three-hour special on CBC with expert prognosis from Canada's leading doctors. I would rather Crosby get a cold than Tarik, but I would much rather be with a sick Tarik than a sick Crosby. Crosby probably complains about the taste of the cough medicine, no?"

Ovechkin: "If Malkin puts his head down to take his cough medicine, I do not forgive him."

Schultz: "Has anyone seen my socks?"

Fedorov: "The new equipment attendent, Boosch, was washing them earlier."

Erskine: "I got my socks back and they were mismatched. I got a giant sock and a tiny sock."

Ovecehkin: "I hope new equipment attendent didn't also mix up the cups."

Boudreau (from around corner): "I've told you guys it's too early to talk about the Cup."

Posted by: tominfl1 | January 16, 2009 7:31 PM | Report abuse

@ Capt_Kirk_in_AZ

Haha, guilty as charged. Former goalie here ... so I can definitely geek out on the equipment if given the chance. Apologies if it gets tedious ... was just addressing a previous question as to why Theo would need yet another mask.

Posted by: terrapin2930 | January 16, 2009 7:40 PM | Report abuse

Very creative Tom, like it. Almost as ogood as 007's Caps commercial "In my dreams he's a shark". Classic!

Anyone see the Bruins/Canadiens game? If you did, did you see Thomas lay out the Habs forward? Didn't catch the Canadiens player but Thomas did not mess around.

Watching a little of the Ducks/Pens game now. LOTS of empty seats in the Mellon. Maybe they are all at home practising their photoshop techniques.

Posted by: DaveUKCapsFan | January 16, 2009 7:45 PM | Report abuse

Sombrero, lol. Forgive my poor word choice. I should know better!

Posted by: jmu_capsgirl | January 16, 2009 7:51 PM | Report abuse

Cool mask. I like how the "W" is featured front and back.

But what's up with that tune on the video? Lame!

Posted by: CAP-lanta | January 16, 2009 7:52 PM | Report abuse

Forgot to add, nice mask and good choice of music although I'm guessing as Sombrero Guy mentioned because the video came from NHL/Caps officially and not from Tarik, he maybe didn't have any input into it.

Posted by: DaveUKCapsFan | January 16, 2009 7:52 PM | Report abuse

Ovechkin: "Sasha, I see you have new bracelet."
Semin: "Yes."
Ovechkin: "What are initials on bracelet?"
Semin: "W-W-C-D."
Schultz: "What's that stand for?"
Semin: "What would Crosby do."
Green: "Well...what would Crosby do?"
Ovechkim: "He'd complain."

What - this fancy mask is better than Varlamov's? What's wrong with the "throwback" white model? Could even go the college football route - for every solid game Varlamov has, the team can put a "puck" sticker on it.

Posted by: Z-Money | January 16, 2009 8:09 PM | Report abuse

Bears update:
Bears at Bridgeport tonight. 14:12 to go in the second. Score tied 2-2. Bears goals by Osala and Perreault. Bears only have 5 shots on goal so far. Machesney in net, Neuvirth backing up. Varlamov back home in Hershey with an undisclosed injury.

Posted by: tess2201 | January 16, 2009 8:10 PM | Report abuse

@terrapin2930

Good call on the mask - I believe it is indeed an Itech mask. Nike Bauer (actually just Bauer Hockey now) just bought Itech so they are changing all of the Itech equipment logos to Bauer logos.
Pretty sweet design IMHO - from an admitted equipment geek as well. Bring on the Bruins!

Posted by: Roose | January 16, 2009 8:10 PM | Report abuse

Cooke just scored for Pit, 1-0 end of first. I've seen enough. I need my sleep as I have a late night planned for tomorrow! :)

Posted by: DaveUKCapsFan | January 16, 2009 8:12 PM | Report abuse

Bears update:
Bears leading 3-2. Goal by Alex Giroux. Puts his goal streak at 13 games. AHL record is 14 games (record held by Brett Hull).

Posted by: tess2201 | January 16, 2009 8:31 PM | Report abuse

Funny enough, Cooke just buried a lucky bounce about 20 sec into the 2nd to put them up 2-0. Watching Philly beat up on FLA too, god bless Center Ice package. I still think the Pens will make the playoffs, getting Gonchar back will be big for them, I know it's cliche to make the statement that he's only 1 guy, but anytime that guy is someone who can log 30:00 any night it makes a big difference...we should know, we had him for a number of years. He just makes the PP so much better.

DakeUK I will make sure I say and type Man Utd. from now on...what did you think of Man City offering over 100 mil to AC for Kaka? Back to Caps, I'm not sure catching Boston is realistic if Thomas keeps playing like he has been, if we get on another good winning streak (esp if we can pull it out tomorrow night) and make it closer not too soon after the break I'd say we have a shot at it. I'd really like to see us put away the division over the next month and only way that's going to happen is if Theo starts playing consistently a little better. He's been good enough of late, but we need him just a bit better.

Posted by: Davethecapsfan | January 16, 2009 8:38 PM | Report abuse

I was always a fan of Gerry Cheevers' mask, the old-school Bruin keeper who had the trainer paint stitches on his mask whenever he took one in the kisser.

If Theo could play as well as his mask looks we'd be Cup champs.

I think Jose Three or Four needs to worry about making saves not new masks IMO.

ROCK THE REDS!

Posted by: jake81 | January 17, 2009 9:02 AM | Report abuse

@jake81 - And I think he'd best worry about NOT making one of those saves with his face. The mask is important equipment.

Besides. This one is RED!!!

DaveUS,
Its looking more like City will get Kaka. They are reportedly offering him, get this

£500,000...

a week!.....

AFTER tax! Unbelieveable

That's over a million dollars A WEEK before tax.

If it happens it beats any other sports contract.

Caps have to get traffic in front tonight but even if we beat the Bruins I'm not sure we could catch them. They aren't dropping many points and we are too inconsistent on the road. I think we should be concentrating on holding of Montreal, Philly and the Rags for second seed.

Posted by: DaveUKCapsFan | January 17, 2009 9:24 AM | Report abuse

The first two teams in the East are playing tonight... let's talk about that shall we?

I'll start with doom-inator stuff, and the big danger of tonight:

Do Not Make Their Goalie Look Like a Superstar.

Repeat: Do Not Make Their Goalie Look Like a Superstar.

I don't care how many shots on goal you have if he can see them all... NYI outshoot BOS 41-27 but they lost last game... key is TTF: Tough Traffic in Front.

On a side note... I'm almost tempted to make the trip for the game tonight... anybody has tickets by any chance?

Posted by: mauree | January 17, 2009 10:29 AM | Report abuse

We are SOOOOOOOOOO DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMED...
The entire season hinges on this game, until the next one we play...

The impending Apocalypse in upon us....

Nice helmet Jose.

Fehr scores one today!

WE'RE DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMED

Posted by: JSchon | January 17, 2009 10:34 AM | Report abuse

I don't get the big deal with masks. Does any fan get close enough to appreciate the art work? From where I sit all I see is a colorful bobble-head. I would prefer a white one like color of the ice, so that to most people it would appear as if we had a headless goal tender.

I am with Opita and oo7 and agree to disagree.

Posted by: x1232 | January 17, 2009 11:23 AM | Report abuse

Jschon,

Looking at the schedule, I think you are right. With the improtance of this game, I fear that without a victory form our boys at home tonight, we may have to dismantle the team. Joe Say will need a new mask again. The inauguration may have to pushed back.
