Third Period

3-2 Caps on a power play goal. Semin from Backstrom and Fedorov at 1:58.

Backstrom had a nice pass to a wide open Semin, who had plenty of time to take a shot from his spot below the hash marks in the faceoff circle and sent a clean wrister over Ellis' left shoulder.

Update:
As of 12:30 the Caps haven't had a shot on Ellis since Semin's goal way back at 1:58. The Predators are, at the moment, out shooting them 13-2.

Update:
3-3 Predators tie. Arnott from Suter and Dumont at 12:24.

Things weren't looking good for the Capitals who still haven't recorded a shot in the third period since Semin's goal and finally the Predators perseverance paid off. Ryan Suter took a shot from the point that appeared to be deflected by a stick in front and then bounced off a few skates before Jason Arnott was able to deflect the puck past Jose Theodore.

Update:
No question that Nashville outplayed the Capitals in this third period. The Caps had just three shots to the Predators' 15 and only one came after the 1:58 minute mark. That shot total that was once so lopsided now sits at 29-26 Capitals as the game heads to overtime.

OK JT seems to be blocking a lot of shots, and I'll be happy to eat crow if the Caps win with strong 3rd period goaltending shots 12-2

happy about the win, but man does this team have to give up so many leads?

Posted by: JIMALLCAPS | October 28, 2008 9:45 PM | Report abuse

They think they do better under stress??? I'm going to get high blood pressure at this rate.

@ all the commenters (especially on the 2nd period post) complaining about Ellis playing better than Theodore -- take it from someone who was at the game, Ellis was NOT the better goalie tonight. his rebound control was atrocious. especially in the first period, almost every shot would come off his blocker or pads straight back out. if anything, the Caps did him too many favors by misplacing their shots early. should have been 4-1 after the 1st.

I have to agree with JIMALLCAPS et al.

For such a talented offensive team, the Caps are giving up too many late leads. They must sorely miss Poti on the blue line-- and Ovechkin everywhere else!

At any rate, it's good to get another win. Keep it up boys!

A win? In a shootout? Fantastic! I couldn't follow after the 1st.. its been killing me. Semin. Talk about a wild tear.
So why wasn't Johnson in?

Posted by: oo7 | October 28, 2008 9:59 PM | Report abuse

a win without Ovie is a good win.

Posted by: fullright | October 28, 2008 9:59 PM | Report abuse

Did anyone turn to Versus to look for highlights of our preempted game? Did they even mention that the Caps and Preds had played a game tonight? I must have missed it.

A 7-0 flyers rout instead of a 4-3 Caps-win shootout. I wonder how many viewers were left at the end of the ugliness in Atlanta. Yeah, some genius at Versus sure made a great pick -- his mother must be very proud.

Montreal 3, Carolina 2 (SO)!

Posted by: dcsportsfan13 | October 28, 2008 10:29 PM | Report abuse

Someone needs to step up and be the hero. We should of been up 4-1 after the end of the first period but no one wanted to stuff it home.

You cant let teams hang around on us. Im happy for the two points, but ZERO killer instinct in the third.

3 days of practice and rest...thank god.
