Today's Lineup

Based off warm ups, here's how the lineup should look:

Forwards
Ovechkin-Fedorov-Kozlov
Fleischmann-Backstrom-Fehr
Laich-Nylander-Semin
Brashear-Gordon-Bradley
Scratches-Clark and Steckel

Defense
Erskine-Green
Morrisonn-Poti
Schultz-Jurcina

Johnson
Theodore

After yesterday's high-energy game against the defending Stanley Cup Champions, the Capitals don't want to have a let down against the Senators, who are 17-23-7 heading into today's contest.

"Teams that just play on emotion are teams that are going to end up not winning any long series because it's hard to keep that emotion up all the time," Boudreau said. "It's got to be a habit of the way you play. It's got to be a daily thing, not an every so often thing and it's something we'll talk about extensively before the game."

allright bb. let your personal problems with players interfere with the management of the lines. I am glad you you are sticking with that fourth line instead of putting the best players in the ice.

Posted by: superX | February 1, 2009 12:28 PM | Report abuse

It would be interesting to see Boudreau sit Semin for one game to drive home the point that he's got to stop taking dumb penalties.

Semin on 3rd sends an appropriate message without cutting off your own nose.

Telecast is live and in HD on CSN-HD. Enjoy, everyone. :)

I sold my tickets for the 2nd game in this back-to-back. (Don't worry, I only sell to Caps fans.) I hope the boys make me regret it! Let's go Caps!

Posted by: GregAnnapolis | February 1, 2009 12:34 PM | Report abuse

superx,
where do you keep your jack adams trophy? last time i checked, the caps were 3rd in the conference and just beat the stanley cup champs...

Posted by: dcsportsfan1 | February 1, 2009 12:35 PM | Report abuse

How many times has the "C" been scratched this year?

Posted by: TJ91 | February 1, 2009 12:38 PM | Report abuse

Superx,
who else should be on? Clark has been ineffective and they mentioned that Steckel suffered a "lower body injury" during yesterday's game.

Game time baby, 5-2 win I'm predicting I say Semin rebounds with 2 goals today. Johnny sharp.

Davethecapsfan,
At the begginng of the year, didn't Semin, Nyls, and Laich played together in the second line? I am not sure, but I think they did, and played well.

Posted by: opita1 | February 1, 2009 12:52 PM | Report abuse

I can't believe I am saying this, but I just heard "JOE B" say that BB called out both OV and Semin in front of the team. If that is true, Tarik, why did you failed to mention OV?

Theo's glove has been good lately pessimistphil.

Yeah I mentioned that to my friends yesterday at the game how when Fed was out for so long Semin with Laich and Nyl was actually our 2nd line for awhile. Semin is flying so far today great goal by Greenie we have been dominating play so far.

I am definetely one of the more positive people on here when talking about theo. most of you flip flop on him more than Kerry on politics.

you don't leave alfreddson open behind a screen. is that hard to understand?

2 Powerplays, 2 faceoff wins, 2 goals. Fed doing the little things on both goals.

Posted by: Davethecapsfan | February 1, 2009 12:59 PM | Report abuse

I remember last year during the playoffs Feds did the same thing. Lifted the stick of the philly guy during the faceoff and kicked it back to someone, same result

Wow. whatever these guys ate last night, keep on feeding them the same.

Posted by: ludeman95 | February 1, 2009 1:01 PM | Report abuse

Just a slight shot Phil, seems like everytime I see a random negative comment on here your name was below it. I think we all know you don't leave a great scorer like Alfreddson open, sometimes it just happens. I think my point on Theo's glove being sharp of late is a valid one though and he would've had a better chance at making that stop.

I haven't had a problem with Theo all year, a lot of his bad numbers the D was leaving him out to dry early in the year. Since getting yanked in the 1st vs. the Rangers he's been better than fine in my opinion. Johnny will tighten up it's early and he hasn't played in awhile.

Posted by: Davethecapsfan | February 1, 2009 1:02 PM | Report abuse

Yeah if we keep doing this during day games, I'll have to suck it up and start waking up earlier I guess... :P

Posted by: GregAnnapolis | February 1, 2009 1:02 PM | Report abuse

well it seems that you have no sense of comprehension if you feel that every negative comment is posted from me. I am fairly positive about the caps, but very realistic.

and let's REALLY break this down. We have Johnson in net, and you are saying hypothetically that Theo would've gloved that? Well guess what, theo is not in net, so if anyone is being a pessimist here, it's you being negative towards Johnson.

Posted by: richmondphil | February 1, 2009 1:04 PM | Report abuse

I am being negative towards THAT goal. He let it by, it's not some hypothetical it happened. I tried to let you know it was mainly in jest calling you a pessimist. I think Johnny will bounce back he hasn't played in a long while. Considering how that game vs. Montreal went and how this one started, my worry is based in fact :)

Uh oh, another PP. I feel like I'm greedy hoping we go 3 for 3.

Posted by: Davethecapsfan | February 1, 2009 1:08 PM | Report abuse

"Johnny will tighten up it's early and he hasn't played in awhile."

I mean really...I am being negative about a hypothetical glove save, and you are being negative about what's actually going on, and I'm the pessimist somehow?

okay....

Posted by: richmondphil | February 1, 2009 1:08 PM | Report abuse

really liking these lines - very balanced threat all across... if Fehr starts putting them in it will be ridiculous offense for this club.

Posted by: rh71 | February 1, 2009 1:09 PM | Report abuse

PP is doing a good job of waiting an extra second for Ott to overplay the pass they think is coming, leaving a better one open.

Posted by: Davethecapsfan | February 1, 2009 1:10 PM | Report abuse

good pass by ovie, if only that was a shooter and not nyls

Posted by: wtf_e_fehr | February 1, 2009 1:10 PM | Report abuse

in jest? you say slight shot, but then you take another shot at me?

why would you even be negative towards your goaltender? stating that our other goalie would've made that save is just asinine and clearly resembles a pessimistic comment.

let's just drop this and watch the game.

Posted by: richmondphil | February 1, 2009 1:11 PM | Report abuse

I hate when we doze off as in this PP... we could score but are so lazy that it looks like even teams.

Posted by: mauree | February 1, 2009 1:12 PM | Report abuse

Phil and Dave...
play nice, ok?

Posted by: tess2201 | February 1, 2009 1:12 PM | Report abuse

Good first guys, lots of energy, Ov definetly does'nt look "sleepy" today, hehe

Posted by: ludeman95 | February 1, 2009 1:13 PM | Report abuse

Tightening up I mean he'll close the holes chief, as in, play better? I think it's far more pessimistic to be negative about a hypothetical situation that would seem more in our favor (shot being on Theo's glove side) than me acknowledging what just happened as a bad start for Johnny. I can call it an unfortunate start and move on expecting him to get better, you sounded like "Bah even if we had this it wouldn't matter we'd be down".

It just came off as a real downer. Again, when I say "tighten up" I mean close down any holes and get into the game with a little more rubber. He made a good stop on Alfreddson in the slot a few minutes later. Good period overall, have a feeling the refs will be evening up the PP's...hope we're careful about it in 2nd.

Posted by: Davethecapsfan | February 1, 2009 1:16 PM | Report abuse

The Caps are in a slump.

Good start with two goals in seven seconds of power play time, but a 120 second power play without a goal is simply unacceptable from a professional franchise.

It must be Semin's fault.

I highly doubt any goalie would've stopped a wide-open alfreddson wrister, behind a screen.

he has one of the fastest wristers in the league.

give credit where credit is due.

christ, this is worse than people yesterday calling Leino's goal "soft". really?

Posted by: richmondphil | February 1, 2009 1:20 PM | Report abuse

question: why isn't backstrom playing on the first line as he has all year? he had great chemistry with ovechkin and kozlov.

Posted by: virkulous | February 1, 2009 1:28 PM | Report abuse

I definitely didn't call Leino's goal soft, you can read my comments on that one. I didn't think Alf's shot on this occasion was a real screamer. I was being optimistic in Theo's ability to stop anything of late ;) There was a slight screen it just slipped through 7 hole...like I said, to be expected he's been sitting for awhile now. He'll hold it down.

Another thought, if Flash picks it up a little and Semin and Green hadn't been out so long with injuries I really think four 30 goal scorers would've been realistic. I don't know if Ovie will hit 60 again but 50 is probably a lock, and Semin had a shot to hit 40 before he got hurt.

Posted by: Davethecapsfan | February 1, 2009 1:28 PM | Report abuse

To paraphrase Warner Wolf: Lest go to the VDR.
I seems like Johnson got screened by his own man (morrison) and lost site of the puck. In my view, it was a great shot by Alfredson, nothing Johnson could have done other than blast morrison out of the way.

Posted by: richmondphil | February 1, 2009 1:33 PM | Report abuse

Going to the dvr it looked like Johnny saw it a little bit, he definitely felt it going 7 hole by his reaction. It happens, he's been solid since.

I saw that Mason with mono thing too...they should just hand him the Calder now.

I would like to ask the more scholarly hockey types a question:

What is th criteria for throwing a player out of a faceoff? I watched the replay last night (insomniac that I am) and saw a few of these.

Any simplistic answer (bearing in mind my feeblemindedness) would be appreciated.

Posted by: virkulous | February 1, 2009 1:43 PM | Report abuse

TimDz,
They get thrown out for 'starting' early. That goes for other guys in the circle as well as the face off man. Sometimes I wonder as well, but it's pretty much the players that try to get a jump start to get the advantage.

Posted by: _828 | February 1, 2009 1:43 PM | Report abuse

Hey, Johnny "gloved" that one!

Posted by: benguiin43 | February 1, 2009 1:44 PM | Report abuse

there are rules to it too.

visitors must have their stick on the ice first.

Posted by: richmondphil | February 1, 2009 1:44 PM | Report abuse

actually phil, my bad. theo would've gloved it, cuz he's a righty (in reference to his glove hand) and johnson is a lefty

Posted by: virkulous | February 1, 2009 1:47 PM | Report abuse

Per answers.com

Common faceoff violations include moving the stick before the puck is dropped or not placing the body square to the faceoff spot. In the NHL, a visiting team's centre's hockey stick must touch the ice before the home team's centre does.

Posted by: ludeman95 | February 1, 2009 1:50 PM | Report abuse

I have a serious question for those of you who are statistically inclined. How many 5 on 3 situations have the caps had that were over 30 seconds? It seems that we have been on the shortside on offense but the opposite shortanded. Just curious!

Posted by: benguiin43 | February 1, 2009 1:50 PM | Report abuse

now, all sarcasm aside, i have a question for you goalies, or ex-goalies.

if johnson has his glove on his left hand, isnt he technically a "righty" and vice versa? (im drawing this from baseball...I am a lefty and always gloved with my right hand.)

TimDZ, there are faceoff rules. vistors stick down first, feet in either side of the lines, etc. good faceoffmen are able to cheat better than others. a lot of times you will see players tossed cause one of their teammates jumped into the circle too early or was yapping too much. i always wondered what would happen if all five guys one one team got tossed..

Posted by: dcsportsfan1 | February 1, 2009 1:56 PM | Report abuse

You win! Benching Semin was a little harsh, but maybe the ass chewing he recieved yesterday might be working. He had his head up his keester for most of the game yesterday. Hopefully this was the reality check he needed.

i think it's based on their glove hand (and therefore their stick side). johnson's glove is on his left hand, and so he plays with a left-handed stick. theo plays with a right-handed stick because he's a righty (in reference to his glove hand).

for some reason i was thinking of Green's hail mary to Semin.

Sorry was downstairs eating watching game with brother. Calm down Phil, shockingly I don't think Johnny could've stopped Alf's 2nd one, he did well to get a piece of it, 3 on 2 good play nice one timer. I know you're salty but lets just agree neither one of us took our original statements in context and be happy we're rocking bells at 6-2. Johnny has been solid, no worries ;)

Moments of that period, Green's sand wedge to Semin was genius, Semin is one of the best in the league going forehand to backhand on breakaways, I wish Ovie would do it more. What can you say about Ovie. Moment of the game so far camera on bench while hats were being cleaned up, you see Theo in the background mouthing "M-V-P" along with the fans. Priceless.

Fed is having a strong game also.

All right, I have a plane to catch (hey, I sound like Tarik lol). I will repost this later tonight, but I followed each move by Schultz, as promised. I tried my best to be objective. And remember, this is a good game overall by the Caps.

Here's the plays he made sorted by value:

GOOD: 3 plays. 2 in the offensive zone, shooting (nice shot) and keeping the puck in the zone. 1 in the defensive zone, good positioning.

Standard: 2 plays. In the defensive zone. By "standard" I mean I expect any D-man to do those. Those two were keeping the puck when pressed.

BAD: 3 plays. All in the defensive zone. Sub-standard handling of the puck, slowness.

VERY BAD: 4 plays. All in the defensive zone, when he was pressed he gave the puck away. Two of those almost resulted in a goal.

Do with it what you want :D

the thing about Carter and Ovechkin leading the leagues in goals....both of these teams also have a fairly evenly distributed offensive power. with 7 players with 10+ goals, it amazes me that ovechkin and carter are still able to shine on top despite all their other firepower.

Posted by: richmondphil | February 1, 2009 2:19 PM | Report abuse

Great vid Phil, it's ridiculous when they get all nuts over clean hits like that. Reminds me of Sloan's first game with us this year when he threw that bomb and got jumped immediately by 2. It's one thing if a guy throws a cheap shot or is going out of his way to bug someone but a clean hit in the flow of play I don't get it. You don't see Brash having to lay down the law like that for us when Ovie takes a hit.

Maybe that has to do with the fact Ovie will pretty much give more than he gets anyways.

agreed Phil on the balanced scoring comment...I think Philly even has 5 or 6 with 15+. You figure Briere has missed most of the year too and it could be more. I really feel Fed would have some very nice numbers at this point in the year without the ankle. He had a solid start and has been getting better every game since he finally got back.

i love backstrom, but moving feds to the top line with ovie is looking like genius. 5 goals (so far) in 2 games with feds and ovie together. if feds can keep it up down the stretch with ovie and flash backs and fehr can come together as a young hungry line, the team can get better...which is scary for the rest of the league

Posted by: formerlylove | February 1, 2009 2:26 PM | Report abuse

I still think you move Semin up instead of Fehr. Semin and Backstrom together is what helped get us to Game 7 last year in the playoffs they were dynamite the 2nd half of that series playing together.

I would think Feds might want to play another year because (a) next year is an Olympic year and (b) the ankle injury really limited him this year from playing up to his normal caliber. That said, I don't see the Caps or anyone else willing to pay him the $4 million he's getting this year. Not in the current salary cap economy. So if he's willing to take that pay cut, yeah, why not stay in DC?

Just finished watching the game. Two, quick non-hockey related thoughts: 1) That girl was so excited about catching Ovi's gum...gross. I don't care who he is, don't go grabbing people's used gum. 2) If I see that baby on the street, I'm punching whatever adult he's with.
Hockey related thoughts: 1) Nick is truly a gift. Every game, I'm thankful that GMGM didn't give up that pick to Boston. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-Hy5Dah-vk&feature=related 2) Semin is infuriating, but, boy howdee, is he talented! 3) Ovi! 4) I hope that's the last time we give up a lead like that.

-Johnny came up big those last few minutes.
-Another good game by Fehr. His goal was all hard work.
-Erskine has been very impressive since he came back. I never would have thought that him being paired up with Greenie would work out so well.
-Speaking of Greenie. His pass to Semin, on Semin's goal, was SICK!
-Semin had a pretty good game today. Though, I'm beginning to expect at least one penalty from him, every game.
-Man, am I glad we have Ovi for a decade.
-PK starting to look good. Though, I'm not liking that I'm starting to see the PK units out more often. Gotta work on being more disciplined
-Not a very good way to finish. Can't sit back even when you have a big lead. It, most often than not, will not end positively.
-Overall an OK game.

Posted by: elicea | February 1, 2009 4:21 PM | Report abuse

you didnt offend me. you made sarcastic comments about BB perhaps letting his personal feelings interfere with putting out the best lineup. my point was that BB has shown himself to be a pretty good coach and pretty adept at managing players and to the best of my knowledge, you are not a hockey coach.

it would be hard to play clark, steck, fehr and gordon over brash and bradley since they would then have two too many guys on the bench, not to mention a couple extra centers. besides, brash and bradley have been playing very well. they create a good forecheck, provide energy and brash actually has some good scoring chances vs the red wings.

ps. are you serious about not knowing the rule for too many men on the ice? and the coach decides who sits and it has to be someone who was on the ice at the time of the penalty. the penalty is assigned to the bench, not a player.

Update:

Is anyone more excited than me about the beginning of the stretch run?

Looking Ahead: Really really Good News UPDATE!!!

The last 21 games of the season the Caps schedule includes:

13 games against division foe
4 against Atlanta
3 against Tampa
3 against Florida
3 against carolina (2 at home)

2 games against the Maple Leafs

1 against the Bruins (A)
1 against the Penguins (H)
1 against the Flyers (A)
1 against the Predators (A)
1 against the Sabers (H)
1 against the Islanders (A)

Looking good for the stretch run! All we need is a veteran puck moving defensman.

Posted by: windjammersouth | February 1, 2009 4:24 PM | Report abuse

I think people sell Bradley short all the time. He's far more effective than Clark and sometimes I like him out there more than Fehr, although it's different with Fehr because you expect offense from Fehr whereas Bradley is the total 4th line checker. He's big, he's fast, he hits, does whatever the team needs. He's got 4g, 4a and is a plus 8 on the season (these stats are prior to today). Clark has 1 and 5 and is a minus 3. Obviously I understand the argument about what Brash brings to the table, even if he essentially has the same stats as Clarkie just 2 less helpers.

I like both Gordo and Steckel although I think Stecks has more offensive upside. BB already praised Stecks for his game yesterday but said he got dinged up a little bit. I would always play Bradley, the choice to sit is between Clark and Fehr and right now Fehr is better.

Back from a great game and I must start out by giving Semin props for the breakaway score. It was well done and what I hope to see from him more often.

We're back in the second in the East even though the NJDs have a game in hand. A win at the Rock on Tuesday will make that nul with the lead we'd have after the game.

AO's last two goals were stunningly. The PK was solid. Brent was okay, but not great, and it's another two in the books.

And, we're only 1 pt behind the Wings for third in the NHL.

Well done, guys.

dcsportsfan,
on the one hand you said I didn't offend you, and on the other hand you go on and on writing as if you have been offended by my opinion on bb shuffling of his line. right now, it doesn't matter, that is your problem not mine. i don't idolize coaches or players, i state just my opinion and you are welcome to disagree. i just leave it at that.

but please, if you really have a semi-intelligent exchange of views don't act as if you did not understand what i meant by shuffling the fourth line instead of the 2d and 3rd. ofcourse, you can not replace 4 guys by two at one time, don't try to make me sound like an idiot when you are acting like one.

as for a player playing more than one position, you seem to find that incredulous, well it isn't just look at the caps and see how many of them get shuffled in different positions.

don't bother to reply with ridiculous comments.

superx,
i didn't try and make you sound like an idoit, your comment about what constitutes too many men on the ice and who serves the penalty did that for me.

but please, answer your own question, how many guys do get shuffled into different positions this year. well, feds played some d on an emergency basis. can you name another player who played significant minutes at something other than their natural/usual position. ie. center playing wing, wing playing center, etc.

Holy moly did you guys see the sweaters that the Habs wore today? They looked like oompa loompas.

Anyway, great game today!! The VC is my favorite place in DC these days ... ;-) How about that lob from Green to Semin to led to that incredible goal?!? Gotta love the Caps.

I think we should start (March 1?) sitting different people each game. The older guys like Brash and Bradley we need to put them in the press box rotation so they are fresh for the playoffs. I don't care if we have to bring people up on occassion, make sure everyone is fresh for the second season!

Laich and Stecks are natural centers. Semin is a natural left wing. We have a bunch of guys not playing their natural positions. Green is playing D and he is a natural RW!

(Don't go all crazy on me, that last part was sarcasm.)

I don't know if I am being labeled a Semin hater for making a few simple observations, but if I am then all I have to say is read my posts and then read what BB said. I think we are on the same page and if it's good enough for him, it's good enough for me.

Boo:
i can't remember every post from everybody - but some were calling for a healthy scratch of semin - to teach him a lesson. he has taken some bad penalties in the last few games - but not for lack of effort. BB's style of coaching is 'good things will happen', 'never give up', 'work hard' etc. - everything is positive with this guy. IMO semin is the most talented skater/puck handler on the team and if he was a little 'tougher' he would be in the top five in scoring in the league. i think he should actually get more ice time - he'll learn and the caps will be better for it.

I said something needed to be done, but I was not sure what. If benching is the answer then sobeit, but I don't know that it is. I mentioned that peer pressure has seemed to work with him in the past and that he needed to be mentored by his fellow Russians. Regardless, in Bruce I trust and it looks like he did what needed to be done. Fortunately Semin has not completely matured as a player yet, so these things will continue to get better over time. He's an incredibly skilled player - I can't wait to see him at his peak. BTW, I think he actually would be a top five scorer if he had not been out injuries (tougher play or not).

i have notice that he is getting a little more physical - checking, mucking in the corners for the puck. if he ever gets the drive to be the best he can be - like OV is now - his name could be throw in with OV, malkin and crysby. i have mostly a positive outlook when it comes to the players - everyone is going to make a mistake/missed assignment etc - the only thing i can't tolerate is lack of effort. there are obvious areas for improvement on this team - it frustrates me to hear that players should be traded/benched/scratched/sent down - just because they had a bad play or game. i wouldn't think of telling anyone that they can't have an opinion (or even that it was wrong). i'm just in semin's corner and don't agree with most that are calling him out. i've also be in theo's corner from day one - mostly because he is what GMGM saw as the answer in goal. i'd just like to see more positive comments about the guys on the ice - even though it's easy (and at most times fair) to call out the negative.
it sucks to have to wait until tuesday for more caps hockey

Capt_Kirk_in_AZ:
I don't think people call Semin out for doing one thing wrong, they call him out for patterns of behavior. I hate to keep pointing this out because I really do like the guy and think that he is incredibly talented, but he definitely has a few opportunities for improvement (as does Theo ... whom I am much less patient with). I agree that Semin is getting a little more physical and is standing up for himself (he did it again today - was it Heatley that he knocked on his rearend?). If he keeps it up he is going to need to start fastening his fight strap or he's gonna get tossed again.

@superX Re: having Ovechkin serve bench minors... a friend of mine and I were chatting with Boudreau at one of the events they had a while back to lure in folks for season tickets, and he said it was so that Ovechkin could be back on the ice quickly at the end of the PK. It's a move to get him out there behind the other team's D-men, so that he can maybe have an open shot at the net if he gets ahold of the puck.

@mauree Re: the hi-stick late penalty call you mentioned happening at the Blackhawks' game yesterday... This is from the NHL Officials' Association:

First, this is not a situation that can be reviewed via video. What most likely happened is that the penalty was witnessed by one of the Linesmen who reported the infraction to the Referees at the first stoppage of play following the foul (as per Rule 33.4, 3rd paragraph, note (viii)). As a result, the goal is then disallowed based per Rule 33.4, 4th paragraph and Rule 78.5 note (viii).

And yes, there are instances when penalties are not called when the offending Team takes control of the puck but are reported by the Linesnman upon completion of play i.e.: Match Penalties, Game Misconduct Penalties, Unsporstmanlike Conduct, etc... You can find that in Rule 33.4, 3rd paragraph.

Rule 33.4: Reporting to Referee - The Linesman shall give to the Referees his interpretation of any incident that may have taken place during the game.

The Linesman may stop play and report what he witnessed to the Referees when:

(i) There are too many men on the ice (Rule 74)
(ii) Articles are thrown on the ice from the players’ bench or penalty bench (Rule 75)
(iii) When team personnel interfere with a game official (Rule 40)
(iv) When a player or goalkeeper who has lost or broken his stick receives one illegally (Rule 10)

The Linesman must report upon completion of play, any circumstances pertaining to:

(i) Major penalties (Rule 20)
(ii) Match penalties (Rule 21)
(iii) Misconduct penalties (Rule 22)
(iv) Game Misconduct penalties (Rule 23)
(v) Abuse of Officials (Rule 40)
(vi) Physical Abuse of Officials (Rule 41)
(vii) Unsportsmanlike Conduct (Rule 75)
(viii) Double-minor penalty when it is apparent that an injury has resulted from a high-stick that has gone undetected by the Referees (Rule 60)

Should a Linesman witness a foul (above) committed by an attacking player or goalkeeper (undetected by the Referees) prior to the attacking team scoring a goal, the Linesman shall report what he witnessed to the Referees, the goal shall be disallowed and the appropriate penalty assessed.

Jean Morin
NHL Linesman # 97

Yeah, I was one of the people thinking maybe Semin needed to be taught a lesson and maybe go so far as benching. Sorry to be late, I had a life today. Made me a little slow to join the party.

Anyway, looks like whatever Bruce did to lay down the law with Semin seems to have had some effect. He was a lot better this game this he has been in the last couple, and that move he pulled in the O-zone to make those two Sens collide was awesome stuff. :) Let's hope it sticks, though.

I still say something needed doing, and don't think that just because he's talented, he can't be benched if the situation calls for it. Glad benching him wasn't necessary.

And that's all I have to say on the subject.

someone asked about players playing out of their natural position?

Ov, federov, koslov
left, center, center

Fleishman, Bacstrom, Fehr
right, center, right

Laich, nyslander, semin
center, center, left

Bradsheer, Gordon, Bradlee
left, center, right

Well, it seems like every line except for the fourth line has them.

It doesn't seem to me that benching a player helps at all. I think with all of us, if we make a mistake or two, sitting out doesn't seem to help correct the behavior. It's getting back up and trying again, this time, doing what we can to avoid the error from happening again. I think putting Semin to the third line got the point across that despite his talent, he could be put back there and kinda' stew a bit. Make him want to get on the ice even more. Go Semin! Go Caps! Devil Stew anyone on Tuesday? Devil's Food cake? =P

opita,
if you are referring to my comment, i said natural/usual. koz has player rw all year. laich has not played center this year and i'm pretty sure flash has been a lw all year.

@irockthered
thanks for your answer. Kudos for getting that out of BB.

Opita.
thanks for posting those lines. but it is not point on following that discussion, some people only want to see things their way.

A few thoughts on this weekend's action:

1) OMG those MTL Prison Jams were ridiculous!

2) Secret to stop 28 from getting so many bad PIMs:

Caшa: Переместите Ваши Проклятые Ноги! (Sasha: Move Your Damn Feet!)

3) Datsyukian: (dǎt-SŪK'-ē'-ən) (adj.) 1.) Of or pertaining to a Detroit Red Wings' forward with really, really "sick" skills. 2.) Great, but not quite Gr8 enough.
