Today's Lineup: Rangers at Caps

When Bruce Boudreau was asked moments ago whether there would be any lineup changes, he said the only change will be defenseman Brian Pothier in for the injured Jeff Schultz. So that means goaltender Jose Theodore will receive the second chance that he was hoping to get.

Meanwhile, the Caps' lineup should look like this:

Some other notes from this morning:

Gabby vs. Torts, Round 2
One day after Boudreau and New York Coach John Tortorella exchanged thoughts through the media on the officiating, they were at it again this morning. On Friday, Tortorella questioned the legality of the Caps' faceoffs in Game 1, when Washington won 70 percent of the draws.

Asked about Tortorella's comments this morning, Boudreau snapped back: "They won the game and the only thing he did was cry about the two [areas] we won -- faceoffs and a penalty. He's playing the whole game, and it's pretty lame, quite frankly."

"He's talking about Nicky Backstrom, who was 48 percent. He was one of the worst centermen the first half of the year in faceoffs altogether. We went in and I talked to the league and the league said they are perfectly legal. So he's just crying right now. It's a dumb thing to cry about. We're told not to do this, but he's trying to play the gamesmanship and get the referees on their side. ...Give us a break."

Brashear Out: Coach's Decision
Donald Brashear is ready to return from a sprained knee. But Boudreau has decided to go in a different direction on the fourth line -- for now.

"I just think the matchup we have right now is better," he said.

Do we have pacifiers left over from the Pitt game? Maybe we can give one to Torts.

Also, I haven't demanded anything in a while but today I demand a convincing win, I'm thinking 4-1 or 5-2. Strong performance by Theo, Ovie with 2 goals.

Leeguru: Yes, make EVERYONE happy today! If the Caps win and Jose has an awesome game, that makes my day.

Get fired up Bruce! Go Caps!

Tortorella wants to know if the faceoffs were legal but I want to know if slashing someone's stick into two pieces or tripping a defensemen from behind is legal. According to the link above, the Rangers are working on faceoff techniques, which include blocking the opposing center out of the play which is also called "interference". If they call that today, he'll really have something to whine about.

I know alot of teams/fans are not fond of afternoon games.

Does anyone know the Caps record is on NBC and/or afternoon games?

Nylander? ugh.

Sorry Rachel. that must be the "It's all about me" attitude my wife claims i have.

The Caps were leaning into all of the faceoffs. But Boudreau's got a point. What's Torts complaining about after a win? Phil Jacksonesque.

Your question made me curious so I went back through this season's schedule. In games starting at 3:00 or earlier:
6 wins--2 losses--1 shootout loss

Thanks tess2201.

And i am sure some of those games were not played on 3 days rest either.

Should be an interesting game.

Great news that Theo is getting his 217th chance to prove that he's a decent goalie. Not. He better not screw this up for us today. This is a must win. Almost no one ever comes back to win a series after dropping the first 2 games at home. I'll be on pins and needles again.

Great response to Torts by Bruce. Not mincing words. Tell him how you really feel, Bruce! Yeaaah!

Posted by: ranndino | April 18, 2009 1:01 PM | Report abuse

yep nbc just said varly is starting! gotta love it. lets hope the kid is ready. i have no doubts. i think we'll win with either.

Posted by: pokerface1208 | April 18, 2009 1:03 PM | Report abuse

this is perfect. i think we'd win this series with either goalie in net but the later rounds are gonna take some better tending for sure so get the kid some experience now so he's ready for the later rounds. very nice.

This sends a message to Theo. I think it's the right move.
