Tonight's Lines
Based on what they looked like in warm ups the Capitals lines are the same as this morning. Jose Theodore will start in net, while Chris Clark is a healthy scratch for the second-straight game. The Caps are still without Boyd Gordon, Tom Poti and Shaone Morrisonn.
Tim Thomas is the starting goaltender for the Bruins and you can check out their probable lines here.
Forwards
Ovechkin-Backstrom-Kozlov

Ok, should I go with the Batemans Autumn Fall Ale or the Schofferhofer Wheatbeer? Its tough, its really tough.
Man Utd won to go top of the Premier League (last minute winner too!) and I'm feeling good for the Caps to claim a huge 2 points tonight.
As for the C. I said last season Ovie is the natural leader of this team and should be wearing the C. If the Capt is injured you can make a claim for not giving the C to anyone else. If he's not making the team, then I think there is no reason not to give it to Ovie.

I remember not so long ago we were forced to dump into the zone on the PP, seemed nobody could carry it in. Now I wish we would dump more.

It seems that anyone who plays with Nyls has no idea what he is going to do. Chemistry seems to be an issue, especially entering the zone on the rush.

capsfan5252, I was one of the Erskine-detractors. But you're right. He does perform some much needed duties.

Posted by: kevbnyc | January 17, 2009 7:46 PM | Report abuse
Ok so I guessing when Erskine was last concussed the conversation went like this:
Trainer: "Hey Coach, I think John's concussed. He doesn't know who he is"
Boudreau: "Tell him he's Nick Lindstrom"
Posted by: DaveUKCapsFan | January 17, 2009 7:47 PM | Report abuse
The Pens have a new back-up goalie. The Edmonton Oilers gave them Garon for Sabourin, an AHL forward and a pick.
Giroux has tied Hull's AHL record for consecutive goal-games. He's also one goal short of a hat trick with 40 left to play. The Bears are up 2-0 at the end of the first. Cheezer is in net. Neuvirth is backing him up. (I think Varlamov is sick)

Seems like a dead moment in comments:
If the Bruin guy had pulled his left leg back instead of jumping sideways to try and avoid the Ovie hit he could've gotten a hyperextension or tear upon impact.
(voice of experience)
Ovie needs to lead with his hip on that.

Does anyone have an idea about how difficult it would be to get three tickets to a future game? Just about every game I have watched of late on TV, Joe B noted it as being sold out. I want to get tickets to take my two kids, but it seems like I would have to plan it weeks in advance.
All these sold out games are well deserved for Uncle Ted, BTW.

As a business major, I understand that there is sometimes a need to trade players for the betterment of the club. But I hope we never trade that guy. He's sick (to quote Ovie).
And that was a good recovery by Juice on that Bruins chance.

Posted by: wtf_e_fehr | January 17, 2009 9:22 PM | Report abuse
Who says we can't play tight D and depend on Theo for some solid goaltending. I know he didn't face a high volume of shots but he made some key stops, the late glove save on Chara's blast comes to mind. Finally Semin trusts his shot to just let it fly and not try to curl and drag around everyone. Great win, to think Ovie probably should've had a goal or two as well and we still downed them. Now we gotta take care of Isles and Sens this week so we can go into the break on a roll!

Fedorov looked horrible
Posted by: gtydings | January 17, 2009 9:25 PM | Report abuse
Great win lads, winning in regulation was huge. Maybe, just maybe, we can catch em!
JMU,
Of course I knew that's what you meant by "recovery". My point was if he plays the puck correctly in the first place he doesn't have to worry about recovering.
There again, if he doesn't miss-handle the puck then play a weak pass, the play would probably not have developed he way it did and may not have lead to Sasha's goal.
Perhaps Juice had it all planned out and is some kid of genius.
Posted by: DaveUKCapsFan | January 17, 2009 9:25 PM | Report abuse
Fans, as we discuss this game over the next few days, lets give credit where its due. Great TEAM effort, but recognize the game that Theodore, Alzner, Erskine and Nylander had. ALL of them played major roles in this victory and have be crapped on by many here!!!

I agree 100%. I still have some reservation on Erskine, but I liked how he contributed to offense as well with a couple of dangerous shots.
I don't think Fed was all that bad... and he'll pick up his game. What I would have liked more (but its nitpicking for such a beautiful game) is Brash letting Chara know not to get too confident with Ovie.

Posted by: jmu_capsgirl | January 17, 2009 9:44 PM | Report abuse
I know it's disappointing for us when Ovie doesn't score, but the best teams are going to be effective at shutting him down while playing their game. (Hey, did you know that Zdeno Chara is 6'7"?)
And yet we can win great games like tonight's because we have a deep offense and we're building our secondary scoring. I still think the Ovechkin-Backstrom-Kozlov line is the way to go. And with Erskine back, Alzner getting comfortable, and Theodore on a hot streak, we may just be able to stay in there...

The Bruins "people" are already circling the calendar in 10 days for a "revenge" game, and not blamming but are certainly pointing out the were without 6 regulars tonight.

Fedorov: "You can't order that. Baked beans are from Boston."
Semin: "From Boston? Really? OK...I order cheese steak sub."
Fedorov: "No. Not that either."
Semin: "Cheese steak sub is from Boston?"
Feds: "It's from Philadelphia."
Semin: "Oh." He glances back at menu. "Is Hamburg an NHL franchise?"
Fedorov: "No, Hamburg is in Germany. It's in the German League."
Semin: "Good! Then I get hamburger!"
Bradley: "Who's turn is it to pay the tip today?"
Green: "It's Ovie's. It's Ovie's turn for the tip."

Boston's missing players gave us an advantage. The next game is gonna be even better.
Wow. This team is getting scary. I wish they were playing the sharks now.

I say us. And we. I told my gf (who only likes the Flyers because she grew up here in Philly, not because she knows or cares anything about hockey(she calls Ovechkin, Overchicken with no irony at all)), "We're going to win the Stanley Cup." and she's like, "Who's this 'we'?" And I said, "Me and my team." Fan is short for fanatic.

Hello All!
Just got back from the game and of course, celebrating a great win. The Bs were missing key players to injury (of which as a fan, I wanted to see play) like Sturm and Kessel to name a few, but we did too recently as well and we stepped up and kept winning (no excuses Boston fans). Anyway, the atmosphere at VC was great and I'm confident the boys can take them again in 10 days. We looked good, real good!
We all know Sasha has a world-class wrist shot but it was great to see him show his fast ball. And yes, Erskine WAY deserved his 2nd star props.
Great win again boys!
