Tonight's Lineup (Updated)

No surprises to report. So here's how the Caps will line up tonight against the Blue Jackets (who are without eight regulars):

Forwards
Ovechkin-Backstrom-Semin
Fleischmann-Fedorov-Kozlov
Laich-Steckel-Clark
Brashear-Gordon-Bradley
Scratches--Fehr, Nylander

Defense
Alzner-Jurcina
Sloan-Green
Morrisonn-Collins

Theodore
Johnson

Update:Boyd Gordon, according to NHL stats, did not take a single shift in the first period. I'm trying to get an update on his status.

Check back later for postgame notes, quotes and an update on Gordon.

Why is it that we get to see a SD 7PM Caps game and a 830PM Wizards HD Game??? I guess we need to see clearly how bad the Wizards are.

Stragglers?

Posted by: Section117 | January 9, 2009 7:11 PM | Report abuse

freeid: It's the last CSN+ game of the season for the Caps. Look on the bright side, alright? :P

Ugh, okay, apparently I need to censor myself. My comment is being held for approval. But anyways, I'll clean it up. I know everyone says how awful our ice is, but it seems like our guys have gotten used to how "awful" it is and the other teams are sometimes struggle with it (Toepick!). Could it be a small part of our "home field advantage"?

Great, being that I have Verizon FiOS, I can't watch the game. Actually, I can watch the taped version at 1:30 AM. D'OH!

Posted by: goskins1982 | January 9, 2009 7:14 PM | Report abuse

joe b and locker are retarded.

ovechkin left his feet, clearly a charge.

Posted by: richmondphil | January 9, 2009 7:16 PM | Report abuse

Daily I am reminded about how amazing Alzner really is. Not til he got here did we ever hear "Jurcina joining the rush".

Posted by: jmu_capsgirl | January 9, 2009 7:19 PM | Report abuse

Why couldn't my fios installation have been on Monday instead of today?

But I do have good news: I'm able to watch The Fishing Network in hi def.

yay.

Posted by: grackle5 | January 9, 2009 7:19 PM | Report abuse

goskins, we've had this chat before... QAM channel 122-4001. Does your TV's remote (NOT the Verizon remote) have a dot or dash button?

Either that or you can call Verizon and tell them that FiOS 1 is missing from your line up, and they need to hook 122-4001 back up to Channel 1. :P But good luck getting a tech that knows what the heck you're talking about!

Posted by: GregAnnapolis | January 9, 2009 7:19 PM | Report abuse

grackle5, almost as many dives as a Pens game! And in hi def!

Posted by: jmu_capsgirl | January 9, 2009 7:20 PM | Report abuse

grackle, having come from Comcast, trust me... after this final CSN+ game of the season, you will be so happy that you switched to FiOS. :)

Posted by: richmondphil | January 9, 2009 7:25 PM | Report abuse

I'll keep my mouth shut from here on out about individuals abilities.

Posted by: jmu_capsgirl | January 9, 2009 7:26 PM | Report abuse

I thought Juice could have done much more then.

Can't get behind to Mason here.

Posted by: DaveUKCapsFan | January 9, 2009 7:27 PM | Report abuse

Not the start I wanted to see. Come on Caps. Need to put more pressure.

Posted by: cbs75 | January 9, 2009 7:28 PM | Report abuse

here we go PP.!!

Posted by: richmondphil | January 9, 2009 7:31 PM | Report abuse

Uh oh. No Gordo.

Posted by: jmu_capsgirl | January 9, 2009 7:33 PM | Report abuse

Caps look a little lethargic. Hope they aren't looking past the Blue Jackets.

Posted by: cbs75 | January 9, 2009 7:35 PM | Report abuse

go PP!!!!

Posted by: richmondphil | January 9, 2009 7:37 PM | Report abuse

How pretty was Greenie's between the legs pass to a curling Backstrom at centre ice?

Shame that was the highlight on the PP. Well here's another chance.

Posted by: DaveUKCapsFan | January 9, 2009 7:37 PM | Report abuse

This Mason kid is no joke. Here I was hoping it was all hype. *sigh*

Posted by: jmu_capsgirl | January 9, 2009 7:39 PM | Report abuse

go pp!!!!

Posted by: richmondphil | January 9, 2009 7:42 PM | Report abuse

Why is Ovie clean shaven? Missing his mojo.

Posted by: cbs75 | January 9, 2009 7:45 PM | Report abuse

Girlfriend must be in town

Posted by: jmu_capsgirl | January 9, 2009 7:46 PM | Report abuse

Mason looks the real deal, 69th overall? There's a few NHL scouts who are hearing it from their GM's over that miss.

Ovie's swing on that air shot looked a lot like one of my drives after a double bogey - damn you ball!!

Posted by: DaveUKCapsFan | January 9, 2009 7:47 PM | Report abuse

Dave, XD! I'm glad I'm not the only one that makes those swings!

Posted by: jmu_capsgirl | January 9, 2009 7:50 PM | Report abuse

nylander brash and clark for anyone who can hold a stick and skate backwards

I am not a religious man by any means, but God bless Brian Pothier and his family.

Posted by: GregAnnapolis | January 9, 2009 7:55 PM | Report abuse

JMU,
My dad calls it my "Veins in the neck" swing! Then he pulls another drive and I cheer up! :)

Posted by: DaveUKCapsFan | January 9, 2009 7:57 PM | Report abuse

I could make a ton of excuses (the top one being a girl), but his story about his little boy still makes me teary.

Posted by: jmu_capsgirl | January 9, 2009 7:57 PM | Report abuse

Dave, haha! I'm not a good golfer by any means, but some days, that just seems like all I'm doing.

Posted by: jmu_capsgirl | January 9, 2009 7:58 PM | Report abuse

shots- 18-4

oof

Posted by: richmondphil | January 9, 2009 7:59 PM | Report abuse

Amen Greg. I hope he's just getting his fitness back and nothing more. Call it a day Brian. I'm sure he will.

Posted by: DaveUKCapsFan | January 9, 2009 8:02 PM | Report abuse

New post. Gordon hurt in warmups? Argh!

Posted by: jmu_capsgirl | January 9, 2009 8:03 PM | Report abuse

theo scares me.

anyone with decent skill wouldve put it around him.

Posted by: richmondphil | January 9, 2009 8:06 PM | Report abuse

Next goal is massive. If they go 2 up Mason will be hard to beat.

Posted by: DaveUKCapsFan | January 9, 2009 8:08 PM | Report abuse

We need a goal. Now would be great.

Posted by: MFab12 | January 9, 2009 8:08 PM | Report abuse

if mason loses it, then mason tends to slow down as the game goes. usually by the 3rd.

hopefully this happens tonight.

Posted by: richmondphil | January 9, 2009 8:10 PM | Report abuse

Thank goodness JT came to play.

Posted by: AleksanderOMunchkin | January 9, 2009 8:11 PM | Report abuse

Sick sequence that was.

Posted by: AleksanderOMunchkin | January 9, 2009 8:13 PM | Report abuse

damn...nice shift there.

keep that up and were bound to get 1.

Posted by: richmondphil | January 9, 2009 8:14 PM | Report abuse

Best shift of the night! Looked like a 5-3 when it was even strength.

Mason was up to the test though.

Posted by: DaveUKCapsFan | January 9, 2009 8:14 PM | Report abuse

Tarik's got a new post up, guys.

Posted by: jmu_capsgirl | January 9, 2009 8:15 PM | Report abuse

Glad to see Alzner pinching aggressively even after his few mistakes.

Posted by: AleksanderOMunchkin | January 9, 2009 8:20 PM | Report abuse

Great heads up play by Theo. That would have been a bizarre off-the-back goal
