Tonight's Lineup
The Caps begin their season-long, five-game home stand against the Canadiens at 7:30 p.m. and will play nine of the next 10 games at Verizon Center where they are 22-4-1. Based on warm up here is what tonight's lines and pairings should look like.
Forwards:
Ovechkin-Backstrom-Semin
Fleischmann-Fedorov-Fehr
Laich-Nylander-Bradley
Brashear-Steckel-Gordon
Defense:
Morrisonn-Green
Erskine-Poti
Schultz-Jurcina
Theodore
Neuvirth
*Mike Green has had a change of heart. He's agreed to send the stick he used during his record eight-game goal-scoring streak to the Hockey Hall of Fame after all.
*With just two more sets of back-to-back games, Bruce Boudreau was asked about the opportunity that Jose Theodore has to carry the bulk of the workload in net from now through the end of the regular season and the way he's played in the second half of the season.
"He is what we thought we were getting right now," Boucreau said. "Maybe that was about rock bottom a part of the season as he could go. He's a lot better definitely. I'm not going to say what's going to happen in March or anything like that. We'll see how it goes and if we feel he needs rest and we think either Varly or Michal can do the job before Brent gets back and we'll get them games. But I don't like to look to far ahead."
*Boudreau also made one more warning of what could be considered a trap game as Washington returns from a successful three-game road trip against a Canadiens team that has lost 10 of its past 13 games.
"I think with all the press that's gone on in Montreal if we don't think they're going to come out harder than they've come out all year then we're not as smart as we think we are," Boudreau said. "I don't want to use the word desperate (to describe Montreal). As soon as they get out of this they're right into the top-four race again. They've made a lot of changes and sent a lot of messages in the last 24 hours to their team and their team will work harder than I think they've worked in an awful long time."

you rock. I mean it. There should be your pic up there with Tarik's.
@pawz
Sometimes I get a bit depressed when people misunderstand thoughtful, unbiased comments with chief-puckguru-like nuggets of knowledge, mistake criticism with absence of passion for the Caps. Almost makes me want to stop coming here... but then I'd loose the chance to share opinions with you and other cool and knowledgeable people here :) Hockey rules, no stupid remarks would lower my passion for it.

Why Is This Game Not On Center Ice?
Not only can I not get it on a tv at a hangout tonight, I can't even watch it on my own tv!
Is there a Caps marketing loss angle on this given anyone can watch Center Ice right now but this game is not shown?

he fought his way to the crease, as only he can do, went down and scored with a sneaky move while he was down. Began celebrating as he was sliding into Price.

Like jg2487692348569328 says, this game is not available on Center Ice because it's on NHL Network in the US and TSN/RDS in Canada. And of course, if you live in the area, Comcast Sportsnet is your sole source, just like normal.
The "local team" is always blacked out on Center Ice, because you're supposed to just watch your local feed. (This presumes that you are local to this area...)

I just reviewed the last penalty call to Morrison. It was hard to tell, but it didn't look like much of a hook. I think some of those hook calls are really marginal, but at least they are being consistent in their calls.

To all that are unhappy about the lack of Center Ice coverage: NHL Network has exclusive rights for US carriage of TSN's Wednesday Night Hockey. Center Ice has no say in the matter.
Locals can watch on Comcast Sportsnet. Non-locals can watch on NHL Network (TSN feed). Canadians can watch on TSN. Unfortunately those are your only legal choices. (Although the feed from TSN.ca is also quite legal.)

Rdy,
I reviewed it in slow motion and i didn't see the stick go high, that is why I thought it was hooking. The commentators didn't say anything as far as I know. But I might be wrong.

yeah, i can actually see the rags trying to move some people to get Kovalev. Their backs are up against the cap more than us though.
Whatever team offers gainey what he wants, is where Kovy is going. He doesn't have a NTC or anything like that. I don't think San Jose or Detriot need the extra offense, but I can see him going to one of the west teams who are trying for those 6-8 spots.
Posted by: richmondphil | February 18, 2009 8:45 PM | Report abuse
also, i can see the canucks going after him too in terms of Western teams. Honestly, the playoff race is so TIGHT in the West, it wouldn't be too big of a surprise to see him helping out one of those teams. But i dont see it being Detriot or San Jose.
