Tonight's lineup: Canadiens at Caps
Based on warmups, it looks like Coach Bruce Boudreau, who was unusually uptight pregame, is going to use the same lineup that took the ice this morning at KCI.
Jose Theodore will start in goal and oppose Jaroslav Halak in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals. The rest of the Caps' lineup should look like this:
Forwards
Ovechkin-Backstrom-Knuble
Laich-Morrison-Semin
Fleischmann-Steckel-Fehr
Chimera-Belanger-Bradley
Defense
Schultz-Green
Poti-Carlson
Morrisonn-Corvo
Goalies
Theodore
Varlamov
Montreal's lineup, meantime, will be unchanged from Thursday's.
I'll have some notes/quotes/observations later.

We just gave them a cheap goal. It's hard enough to get one by Halak... now that just puts us behind the 8 ball. I say it would've been nice to get the first goal. That's all Theo, there's no way that should ever go in.

Passing just looks off
Posted by: icehammer97 | April 17, 2010 7:17 PM | Report abuse
The offense last game and so far through 7 minutes doesn't look like it usually does in the reg season. We had 47 shots last game but how many good chances did we have? Not many. Change something, Halak isn't getting fooled.
Posted by: rachel216 | April 17, 2010 7:20 PM | Report abuse
I'll stick with Theo, for better or worse. But if it happens to be for worse, they better not re-sign him.
Posted by: LloydChristmas | April 17, 2010 7:21 PM | Report abuse
Just a lot of sloppiness from the Caps. All these big hits they're trying to land usually leave them out of position. They have to hunker down and start making careful, smart plays.
Posted by: CDon | April 17, 2010 7:21 PM | Report abuse
Halak is very confident. If we are to win this series, WE MUST change that.
Posted by: wtf_e_fehr | April 17, 2010 7:21 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: rachel216 | April 17, 2010 7:21 PM | Report abuse

2 goals in 2 shots is probably not good. Both teams look pretty good. But the Capitals are better, and I think the Caps will come back to win this one. If I knew going in that the Caps wouldn't score 3 goals in regulation, I'd have predicted a loss. And I did not predict a loss. Don't panic. Semin is about to score.

Theodore is one of the biggest choking dogs in Caps history.
Posted by: qoheleth78 | April 17, 2010 7:29 PM | Report abuse
Yeah, you want Theo to stop those shots, but how about the defenders play with a little aggression, rather than back skating and giving the offensive players a ton of cushion? This team is relentless on offense, but on defense, they turn tail real fast and play soft. It's a weird dynamic, and it has the potential to ruin them in the postseason.

Positives are that a puck hit the back of the net and OV got a shot on goal. So now the players know what both look like, so it should give them a modicum of confidence.

Caps defense is too slow - they back off because if they get too close, those gnats will step around them. Forwards need to come back and help out. And score goals too - do not know how they can do both.
Need to tie this up soon.

And I'm sure the shots are way in our favor, too... just like last game.
In both games, we've come out at 110% and have been either tied or losing after one.
It's as if we're going in for the kill right away and if it doesn't net us the lead, the other team will be in the game and have more energy to work with down the stretch.
