Tonight's lineup: Caps at Canadiens
Semyon Varlamov will start in goal tonight and oppose Carey Price in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference quarters.
The Caps will not have defenseman Shaone Morrisonn, who left Game 3 with an injury and did not take the warmup. The Habs, meantime, won't have defenseman Jaroslav Spacek, who is also out with an injury.
The rest of the Caps' lineup should look like this:
Forwards
Ovechkin-Backstrom-Knuble
Fleischmann-Belanger-Semin
Laich-Morrison-Fehr
Chimera-Gordon-Bradley
Defense
Schultz-Green
Poti-Carlson
Sloan-Corvo
Goalies
Varlamov
Theodore
I'll have more later.

From the last thread about Pittsburgh. Scoring wise they are doing great but who knows how much of that is the Sens goaltending being horrible. The one thing is they are playing a low scoring team without one of their better scorers and they are still giving up 4 or so goals a game.
Posted by: icehammer97 | April 21, 2010 7:05 PM | Report abuse
It's mostly all about Eric Fehr. 6 goals in last 7 games vs. Montreal now. WTF?
Semin is going to score tonight for sure. It's about time for him to remember how good he is. I know it's going to happen.

Don't know about the Sloan/Corvo combo. Rather have Erskine even if he don't match up too well against their smaller, quicker forwards. Still should run this team over!

I too would rather have Erskine.
Posted by: youaresquishy | April 21, 2010 7:16 PM | Report abuse
While there was only one shot they did have a couple of good looks which is more then you could say about the first three games. I would like to see Bradley a little more on the PP he almost had a goal on the first one.

Seems like a tight game, with so few shots. Are the guys playing tight? It is nice to see the Caps blocking so many shots.

It looked like it might've been Maxim Lapierre with the blindside head shot on Corvo, because it looked like #40. If so, and if he's suspended, I don't think that really helps the Capitals' cause much.
I hope I'm wrong. I hope that it was someone else. I think he'll get suspended, whoever it was.

The Habs are going to fight hard for this game. They do not want to go back to DC down 3-1, so the Caps better tighten up and play tough. They have to take the body, keep their legs moving, and challenge the Habs up the middle.
Posted by: JIMALLCAPS1 | April 21, 2010 7:36 PM | Report abuse
Carlson and Poti should be the first combo. Then Sloan and Corvo. I get nervous w/ Lambo and Sarge.

Posted by: MReilly9 | April 21, 2010 7:38 PM | Report abuse
Caps are making all the mistakes. That's why Montreal is staying in this thing. And there's Flash with a terrible turnover. Just skate it out, guy. I wouldn't be surprised to see him sitting out Friday, unless he explodes for goals tonight. He's not giving the team a thing.
Posted by: CDon | April 21, 2010 7:38 PM | Report abuse

We are soft and fundamentally unsound in our own end.
There is too much of a lack of a sense of urgency by both forwards and defensemen.
Posted by: tmac2yao | April 21, 2010 7:38 PM | Report abuse
Tomas Fleischmann's failed clear.
One thing I've noticed about the Capitals in general is that they seem to be masters of the failed clear.

Posted by: jdove80 | April 21, 2010 7:44 PM | Report abuse
well that was a nice effort at the VERY end
Posted by: wtf_e_fehr | April 21, 2010 7:44 PM | Report abuse
Caps are even, but I'm not sure they can be happy with that period. Should have scored a couple, and Montreal's best chances were a result of sloppiness and stupidity on the part of the Caps.
Posted by: CDon | April 21, 2010 7:45 PM | Report abuse
2nd best power play vs. the Caps' 74.9% effective road penalty kill.
Capitals should probably try to stay out of the box.
Posted by: youaresquishy | April 21, 2010 7:45 PM | Report abuse
The Caps played with tremendous intensity and a sense of urgency in their own zone in the last game but that was a pretty foreign concept to this team. I don't know if you can expect that kind of effort more than once in a blue moon.
Posted by: tmac2yao | April 21, 2010 7:46 PM | Report abuse
I'm so sick of Montreal fans screaming for a penalty anytime one of their players falls down.
And I'm starting to climb aboard the anti-flash train. Just dumb hockey decisions.
We have to keep working hard, keep playing team hockey and for gosh sakes, take the man in front of our net!
Posted by: natresgroup | April 21, 2010 7:46 PM | Report abuse
I kind of hope Flash does get scratched, but it's difficult to see it happening given some of his regular season numbers.
Right now, against this Canadiens team, it seems like Caps would be better off with someone else. I dunno.
Posted by: youaresquishy | April 21, 2010 7:47 PM | Report abuse
We're tied after 1, so that means we get 4 goals in the 2nd, right? Habs "just have one bad period," right?
Posted by: MyPostIDisAfake | April 21, 2010 7:47 PM | Report abuse

Flash on the clear - terrible play, but did not bite us.
Watching on the internet. So, who was in front of the goal on the Canadians goal? Was that Green? He is stinking up the place AGAIN. WTF. How many shots is he going to get blocked before he learns to maneuver around or pause and shoot over the defensmen? He has no patience whatsoever.
Posted by: rphilli721 | April 21, 2010 7:48 PM | Report abuse
pk better without steckel...forwards showing grit....sloan is doing ok...green needs to stay in front of our net not chase guys behind it....and semin and flash are horribly lazy and brutal in our zone
Posted by: wendel2 | April 21, 2010 7:48 PM | Report abuse
Hey kids - just got home. 1-1 - are we happy/disturbed by this? Tie is better than being down obviously! Grade our Caps, please...
Posted by: Section416akatheAlps | April 21, 2010 7:48 PM | Report abuse
@natresgroup - I am pretty sick of it too. Has it always been this way in Montreal in the playoffs? I don't remember it being this bad. It's like everyone got together and agreed that the team wasn't really that good, except for their power play, and they needed to try really hard to yell for some calls.
If I were a Canadiens fan, I'd be kind of embarrassed about that.
Posted by: youaresquishy | April 21, 2010 7:50 PM | Report abuse
Green's biggest problem in a playoff game is his slow release. In the regular season, goal scorers can wind up because they have more room. In the playoffs they have to score like Ovie did, just rip a wrist shot. Take what they give you.
As for Flash, I hope BB is making him sit in the corner in the locker room.

Flash needs to sit a period, or he will look great in a St. Louis uni next year. He needs a timeout to get his head on straight.
And wtf with Sloan? Did not BB see my earlier message? Erskine! Humor me.
Posted by: EricinReston | April 21, 2010 7:53 PM | Report abuse
Flash is a great nickname cuz he is a very hot and cold player. He is cold now, but can have a hot flash. I hope he has one in the 2nd. As for Semin, Sasha is not a playoff player, he is a pick on weak defenses player. I can see trading away Semin for a player with more grit and tenacity next year.

Exactly, besides his atrocious "D", why does he take forever to shoot the puck basically ensuring his shot will be blocked --> which too often lead to counter-attacks. I swear he's a good guy, but darn stupid ;) And BB loves him?!
