Tonight's lineup: Caps at Panthers

Jose Theodore will start in goal tonight as the Caps attempt to snap a three game losing streak at BankAtlantic Center. Tomas Vokoun will get the nod for Florida, which has won three straight.

Alex Ovechkin won't suit up and is expected to miss Saturday's rematch, as well. The Caps are 1-4-0 without him all-time and 0-3-0, with only three goals, in those last three games.

The rest of the Caps' lineup should look like this:

Forwards
Fleischmann-Backstrom-Semin
Laich-Morrison-Knuble
Laing-Steckel-Bradley
Sloan-Perreault-Clark
Scratch: Ovechkin (strain near shoulder), Fehr (ribs), Gordon (back)

Defense
Morrisonn-Green
Poti-Jurcina
Schultz-Pothier
Scratch: Erskine (healthy)

Goalies
Theodore
Varlamov

I'll have more after the game.

For Howard County FiOS customers:

The game tonight is on CSN+. We won't see it.

I spent a long time on the phone with Verizon on Wednesday and eventually got a chance to speak to someone who actually knew what he was talking about (lol).

He confirmed that Howard County FiOS doesn't carry CSN+.

I pointed out that we got it last season on channel 1. So FiOS Howard county customers lost CSN+ and MASN2 in the recent channel shuffle. There is now nothing carried on channels 1 through 7. I asked if we would get them back and he said he saw nothing in the long term planning that shows CSN+ Mid Atlantic or MASN2 returning. I asked if he was sure and he said yes because he has access to all programming planning going forward for "several months."

We're hosed.

Some Caps fans are reporting in the Verizon Community Forum (FiOS TV Programming section, "Suggest Channels to Add to FiOS TV" thread) that Verizon Customer Service Reps have told them the best way to have their voice heard is to request CSN+ in those forums.

(hint, hint)

Looking forward to a great game. Just wish it were on HD.

Posted by: Sonyask | November 6, 2009 7:04 PM | Report abuse

Ha ha! I called it for the first time (at least one of two): Backs, Flash, Semin. Hope the universe takes notice.

Posted by: caraveli | November 6, 2009 7:04 PM | Report abuse

It's time for the Caps to step up and prove they're a quality team without Ovechkin. Let's go Caps!

Posted by: Terptwin | November 6, 2009 7:10 PM | Report abuse

id be interested in seeing Backstrom and Flash work together, but that 2nd line has been pretty solid previously so it should be fun

Reminder: tonight's game starts at 7:30.

Posted by: grackle5 | November 6, 2009 7:12 PM | Report abuse

What are the line combos tonight? Sure hope Semin isn't on the first line!

Used to be Four Russians. now it's just 3 Euros...

Go, Euros!

@ grackle5

thanks, I was wondering what happened to ch. 1

Posted by: joek443 | November 6, 2009 7:19 PM | Report abuse

@ joek443,

They can pony up the money for the naming rights for the arena but they dropped the coverage on CSN+.

Posted by: grackle5 | November 6, 2009 7:23 PM | Report abuse

That ain't right. I can see tonight's game, cause I have Center Ice (I'm stuck in N. Dakota for 3 yrs). It's a shame that it's not available to everyone in the DC area. Caps > Wizards

Sure saw a lot of Green bashing on the other thread. Those people are just id - well, they are completely misinformed. Who posted last spring the stats that showed ES goals allowed per 60 mins on ice, where Green, Chara and Lidstrom had identical (2.15 per game) numbers? And then showing Green was way ahead in PP goals per 60 mins on ice?

Second in Norris comes from knowledgeable hockey experts, not blind id - er, misinformed posters on a blog.

Get yer facts straight.

Green and Semin for Rouse and Dino? That's pretty funny, really it is.

Semin might be as good as Dino, but they are different players. Time will tell if Semin gets 600 goals. And Green is as good as Larry Murphy I feel.

It was a bad trade when Poile made it and it would be bad now.

Remember - white wine for a road game. Graham Beck 2008 chenin blanc.

The Green bashers are really a sorry lot.

Honestly, he's been off his game, and it's all because of self-imposed tension and stress due to the Olympic selection process.

Posted by: tominfl1 | November 6, 2009 7:35 PM | Report abuse

anyone have a link for a live feed of the game?

Posted by: elicea | November 6, 2009 7:37 PM | Report abuse

Congrats to McCabe on 1000 games. Too bad it will end in tears.

Posted by: saintex | November 6, 2009 7:38 PM | Report abuse

No stream for the game on ATDHE.net. It just shows a test pattern.

Anyone got another link to a stream?

Posted by: grackle5 | November 6, 2009 7:44 PM | Report abuse

@zmega (from previous thread)

Yes, I know the guys (Caps) are professional athletes, not children but I guess those of use who got kids that are the same age as them tend to think of them as kids.

Posted by: CapsFan75 | November 6, 2009 7:44 PM | Report abuse

Sloan!!!

Posted by: cbs75 | November 6, 2009 7:45 PM | Report abuse

That is a sweet line.

Posted by: saintex | November 6, 2009 7:45 PM | Report abuse

Is that Sloan's first goal this year?

Posted by: MrObliviousCapsFan | November 6, 2009 7:45 PM | Report abuse

grackle, I run hockeystreams.com for cheap. Every game, all the time. Check them out.

Posted by: saintex | November 6, 2009 7:46 PM | Report abuse

Mr Obvious, he scored last game on the same line...

Posted by: saintex | November 6, 2009 7:46 PM | Report abuse

Tyler Sloan...those of you who have been reading for awhile...I have been giving him props since all of last year. $640K...big value...no waivers...he's on the club to stay. He's a good skater and maybe a very valuable 4L-LW.

Posted by: tominfl1 | November 6, 2009 7:46 PM | Report abuse

Perreault's sure looking a lot better than Gordon has.

Posted by: butcherbaker | November 6, 2009 7:48 PM | Report abuse

tom, and he can play on the line or in D. Very valuable. Dude has some skills.

Posted by: saintex | November 6, 2009 7:49 PM | Report abuse

That's 85's first career NHL assist, right?

Posted by: MrObliviousCapsFan | November 6, 2009 7:49 PM | Report abuse

Wow, what a crazy start to the game. Glad we got the first goal.

Posted by: cbs75 | November 6, 2009 7:49 PM | Report abuse

survived the opening flurry. I expect the boys to lock it down tonight.

Posted by: saintex | November 6, 2009 7:49 PM | Report abuse

Mr, nope, he has the assist last game also...

Posted by: saintex | November 6, 2009 7:50 PM | Report abuse

Our 3rd and 4th lines are playing well....need the 1st and 2nd lines to step it up.

Posted by: cbs75 | November 6, 2009 7:51 PM | Report abuse

grind it out. I want to see this from the team. We know Backs and Ovi can score. Lock it down.

Posted by: saintex | November 6, 2009 7:52 PM | Report abuse

Wow, AO not playing and everyone disappears? These are some defining games.

Posted by: saintex | November 6, 2009 7:54 PM | Report abuse

The Caps seem to do well in the first period. Anyone know what our goal diff is in the first?

Posted by: MrObliviousCapsFan | November 6, 2009 7:55 PM | Report abuse

Schultz again opening strong.

Posted by: saintex | November 6, 2009 7:56 PM | Report abuse

Someone mind telling me how the team looks so far? Don't have CSN+ and can't find any feeds of the game.

Posted by: elicea | November 6, 2009 7:56 PM | Report abuse

forwards are back at our goalline playing D....well done. Keep it up.

Posted by: saintex | November 6, 2009 7:57 PM | Report abuse

Elicea, 1-0. Sloan from Perrault and Clark.

@CapsFan75 - You seem like a compassionate person. I, on the other hand, criticize those with more athletic talent than I could dream of having.

Posted by: zmega | November 6, 2009 8:00 PM | Report abuse

Speaking of Green, where was he for most of the 1st period?

Posted by: tmac2yao | November 6, 2009 8:13 PM | Report abuse

@zmega

I have zero athletic talent, myself

Posted by: Raber | November 6, 2009 8:15 PM | Report abuse

If our "top" two lines don't get it together, maybe we should rearrange our forwards as follows:

Line 1: Flash, Backstrom, Laich (our good boys)

Line 2: Semin, Morrison, Knuble (our bad boys)

Reasons: good mix of skills on each line. We can have guys team up together for PK and PP. Our "good" boys are usually part of the PK. Our "bad" boys can do PK, at least when they're not in the box.

Anybody know what happened to Green?

Posted by: tmac2yao | November 6, 2009 8:19 PM | Report abuse

@Raber

Sloan scored our only goal. Apparently, we had two other pretty good chances that were stopped.

Posted by: CapsFan75 | November 6, 2009 8:19 PM | Report abuse

@tominfl1

Sloaner's done well, today. Will he permanently "bump" some of our absentees out of the lineup, like Gordon and Fehr?

Posted by: CapsFan75 | November 6, 2009 8:21 PM | Report abuse

CapsFan75:
maybe gordon, probably not fehr

Posted by: Capt_Kirk_in_AZ | November 6, 2009 8:23 PM | Report abuse

Yes, we have a pretty awful track record sans Ovi. 1-4 lifetime. (Or should we count is as 1-4-1, if we count the Columbus game in the sans Ovi category.

Posted by: CapsFan75 | November 6, 2009 8:24 PM | Report abuse

what is going on...... I have CSN+ but now they put MONTEL WILLIAMS INFOMERCIAL on in place of the game..... WTF ????

Posted by: FishCaps | November 6, 2009 8:24 PM | Report abuse

@MrObliviousCapsFan

That's the problem. First period is our BEST period.

Posted by: CapsFan75 | November 6, 2009 8:25 PM | Report abuse

MIKE GREEN SKATED LESS THAN 3 MINUTES IN THE 1ST PERIOD.

Posted by: tmac2yao | November 6, 2009 8:25 PM | Report abuse

Hey capt Kirk! Where are you from?

Posted by: MrObliviousCapsFan | November 6, 2009 8:25 PM | Report abuse

It's too close for my liking.

Posted by: FloridaCapsFan | November 6, 2009 8:27 PM | Report abuse

@Capt_Kirk_in_AZ

I was half kidding with that remark but you're right. Sloan would be more likely to bump Gordon than to bump Fehr.

(Someone should name their fantasy team, "Lifes Not Fehr".) Life certainly has not been Fehr for Eric.

Posted by: CapsFan75 | November 6, 2009 8:27 PM | Report abuse

Speaking of Green, where was he for most of the 1st period?

Posted by: tmac2yao | November 6, 2009 8:13 PM

A defenseman is often at his best when you don't notice him.

Seriously, every one of you should quit picking at Green based on one game, one period, one shift, one play.

I hate to resort to name calling, so I won't. Let's just say you all are "hockey fan challenged." Yeah, that's the ticket - hockey fan challenged. I believe that's an acceptable terminology in today's world. And Nancy Pelosi would say that society is to blame for your condition - obviously the upper class took advantage of you and only allowed blurry picture images on your TV and it made you absolutely HATE Mike Green now.

Let me remind you - Larry Murphy was booed out of town by hockey fan-challenged idiots (oops, sorry!) in DC and he hoisted the Cup 4 times. 4 times. That's one for every finger on your hand except for the one that's stuck up your - well, I guess we only have 4 fingers, don't we?

Posted by: tominfl1 | November 6, 2009 8:28 PM | Report abuse

Mike Green might have hurt himself with that mid-ice hit on what'sname.

Posted by: FloridaCapsFan | November 6, 2009 8:28 PM | Report abuse

actually Green played less than 3 minutes in the first... so he's either hurt or being benched

Posted by: joek443 | November 6, 2009 8:30 PM | Report abuse

tmac: My bad (except my rant can still be directed at the other id - er, knowledeable posters) - Green was injured.

Now...my man Sloan, as someone pointed out, will shift to D.

I'm finding 89 to be a really cool number.

Posted by: tominfl1 | November 6, 2009 8:32 PM | Report abuse

joek443, Not likely benched, didn't BB say he has been playing great the last few games?

Posted by: FloridaCapsFan | November 6, 2009 8:32 PM | Report abuse

@Raber,

thanks, that was just in time. :-)

Posted by: grackle5 | November 6, 2009 8:32 PM | Report abuse

Green was injured. Not playing.

Posted by: butcherbaker | November 6, 2009 8:33 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: Capt_Kirk_in_AZ | November 6, 2009 8:42 PM | Report abuse

Caps down to 4 D now - no Schultz.

Posted by: puckman | November 6, 2009 9:06 PM | Report abuse

OH MY THE FRUSTRATION BOO to Cox for hiding the game on 74. Not in HD AGAIN. Time to move to Direct TV.

Posted by: kkwj40 | November 6, 2009 9:10 PM | Report abuse

OK,now no dumb penalties and responsible defensive play by d-men AND forwards for the third period.

Posted by: zmega | November 6, 2009 9:16 PM | Report abuse

BB took a real chance waiting to put a player in the penalty box on the 5 minute major.

Posted by: zmega | November 6, 2009 9:59 PM | Report abuse

I can sleep well tonight. Thx Caps.
