Too Much Carter
Well, the Caps still haven't been able to take a lead into an intermission. They fought back after surrendering a goal only 42 seconds in, but Jeff Carter scored his second of the night (and third of the series) with 1:27 left in the first to tie the game 2-2.
The Caps are pushing back tonight. The power play looks good. Defense, um, not so much.

Tarik--you're off on the score. It's Caps 2, Flyers 1, Refs 1. Apparently hand passes and dives are now permitted.

@Right winger: You forgot sticks to the face.
Posted by: Raber | April 17, 2008 8:03 PM | Report abuse
The refs missed a big high sticking call at the end of the 1st. The Cap's would have carried a four minute power play into the end of the period, and obviously, Carter's goal wouldn't happen. Huge mistake by the refs!

it's playoff hockey i know, but it seems like the punches to the face seem to be flying in the crease after plays (fehr). i think if it's ok, we need to step up and join in on the fun...
plus, if what jurcina did was a cross-check, we aren't going to able to fight back at all. he was trying to get that filthy flyer off his back...
Posted by: 7734yeah | April 17, 2008 8:05 PM | Report abuse
Regardless of the extended 5-on-3, the Caps are owed some PPs.
F Jurcina.

@ King Huet (from last thread)
Fair enough (on Huet analysis). Just an observation I made.
Posted by: Colin | April 17, 2008 8:07 PM | Report abuse
I told you Nicky and Semin coming up big :) Now I hope Ovie and Huet just took a big chunck out of both Jurcina and Poti in the intermission.
Ovie and Laich come up big in the second. Green maybe too.

How do they not call a high-stick... it would even be acceptable to call it late considering bradley's face was covered in blood.
Just terrible.
We gotta keep our heads up though... our power play looked awesome and we killed TWO 5-on-3s... gotta stay positive we can win this one.

How big of a hero would Backy be if he threw down with Danny boy? Please, get the stripes out of the way and let this happen.
Also, B.s. call on Juice. Is Semin the only one to stick up for himself?

I'm not sure why the D is catching so much $h!t tonight - they're 4-4 on the PK. They have their issues but they're young, can't argue with the PKs.

As you know, I'm not fighter - I never call for blood. However, I have to agree with your post a couple of threads back - if they are going to win this series, they are going to have to beat the Flyers at their own game. Not dirty, but hard, gritty and physical. The goals won't be pretty, but they will count. LIKE THAT ONE!!! :-D LET'S GO CAPS!!!

I'll probably head up there later... Thursday nights are 50 cent boneless wings so they get busy during dinner. My friend has a HD big screen, I watch games at her place. Besides, I highly doubt they'd put a game on at B-dubbs, especially during baseball season...

finishing up the season, i was saying i still had the same problems w/ the gm as when the caps were at the bottom of the standings.
people like laich (who gm tried to be able to send to the minors/ pay little) & green (who gm signed 2 too short a contract) made a big difference. and d not having a role model for how to play also made a difference that can be covered up some by an offense 1st style but not entirely.
not a big eminger fan but something besides play on the ice has been deciding his playing time this year which, again, is a gm responsibility.

Canadian beer's cheaper at the house... I've asked them twice when I've been to put a game on, and they wouldn't. Generally, they're not a bad place to watch games, but for hockey, I prefer to do my swearing and cursing at home.

Yeah my friends know the bartenders. Problem is, one of the bartenders is a fan and he tivo's the games so he doesn't want anyone to watch it. We watched the game on one of the side TVs. But I'm sure it's on the big screen tonight. Big HD screen at the house isn't bad either!

Refs are playing well for the Flyers. They're playing great D in the defensive zone behind the net and doing pretty good at ignoring the elbows and sticks of the Flyers.

They had the director of officiating on XM today with Bettman. They say they are constantly reviewing how the refs are doing. And non of the series have had any extra goaltender interferience....

Hey BMT, I think they're rated on how many Timmy Ho donut holes they bring Bettman during the course of the week prior. They bring him lots, he gives them games. More donut holes, more important games.
Obviously, we're getting the guys with stock in Horton's.

Puckguru's Observations
I'm not sure who has the larger yellow streak down his back, S. Morrison, or Eric Fehr. Morrison has played like a frightened little b'otch this entire series. Fehr's trepedation doesn't surprise me. Indelibly etched in my memory is him allowing an apponent to REPEATEDLY SMASH HIS FACE INTO THE ICE during the finals of Hershey's Calder Cup winning season.
Can anyone possibly be more INVISIBLE than Victor Kozlov? I think it's plain to see why he has yet to score his first playoffs goal ----- in an 11 season career. Spineless, to say the least.
And finally, I think it's PAST TIME Sasha Semin ( My favorite Cap ) gets credit for being the most FEARLESS and INVOLVED Cap in this sewries so far. He's shown great courage, and hasn't taken a backwards step yet from The Broad Street Bullies. He's been tenacious, creative AND DISCIPLINED; something many have been quick to criticize about his game in the past. Come on everyone. What more does the guy have to do to get some luv around here? He's been OUTSTANDING!!!!
