Training Camp Is Here
It's a little after 10 a.m. and the stands are filling up here at Kettler Capitals Iceplex. A handful of players received a warm welcome back from the fans as they skated out for warm-ups.
Last September, the seats at Ashburn Ice House were filled on weekends. But I've got the feeling there going to be packed most days here at KCI (at least early in camp). So get here early if you want a parking space.
Update:Don't read too much into this, because it is training camp after all. But here are the most interesting line combinations of Day One: Ovechkin-Kozlov-Bouchard and Semin-Nylander-Fleischmann. Semin and Nylander, after 20 minutes, look like a natural fit.
Update:Dave Steckel is wearing No. 39, after giving No. 25 to Kozlov. Steckel wore No. 39 at Ohio State.
Update:Scott Burnside from ESPN.com is in the house. I hope he's not like the SI curse.
Update:Matt Pettinger is wearing a visor. I don't recall seeing him with one before. I'll ask him about it later.
Update:Kozlov took a puck on the chin/cheek in the first period of the scrimmage. Looked like Frederic Cassivi misfired when clearing the puck. Not sure about the extent of the damage yet.
Update:Kozlov needed some stitches, but he's going to be okay, I'm told.
