Varlamov to Start Saturday
Coach Bruce Boudreau just confirmed that Jose Theodore will indeed start the opener tonight at TD Banknorth Garden tonight. He also said Semyon Varlamov will start the home opener Saturday against Toronto.
Boudreau's explanation?
"Just because he's had success in this building before and he plays good and he's had a good camp," he said of Theodore, who went 2-0-1 against the Bruins last season. "If people want to say, 'Hey look at record vs. record' [in preseason], Varly had a 3-0 record and Jose was 0-2. But [Theodore's losses were] a 2-1 game and a goal in the last minute that we made about five errors on. Jose has been so much better than he was at this time last year and we want to give him the opportunity to see if it's for real."
I'll check in again after the game.

2) I'M STOKED!!!!!!!
3) I'm pretty happy that he's platooning them. I thought that Threeormore was going to go until he crashed and burned. Hopefully platooning them will make them both better.

If Bruce believes, then I believe.
Still, I can't shake the feeling that the D works harder to keep pucks away from Varly.

From previous thread...
Predictions:
Ovie goes over 110 points, 55 goals and his nose is broken back to the left straightening it out.
Nicky hits 100 points for the season.
Semin just misses the 40 goal mark and plays in 74 games.
Other goal numbers - Knuble over 30, Laich over 25, Flash over 20, and Gordon and Bradley both flirt with 10.
Schultz is in the top 5 on the team in hits.
Green hits 30 goals again but, more importantly, his giveaways go down.
Alzner is on the roster for the playoffs.
Varly/Neuvy combo in the playoffs.
Nicky wins the Conne Smythe.
They actually start the "Move of the Game" camera in a section not numbered 429, 430 or 431.

I hope the Bruins are enjoying playing without Kessel. More of this to come this season. Like I said before the season started, they're not as good without Kessel and will have trouble scoring. No idea why all the North American pundits still has a hard on for Boston. North American pundits always underestimate the importance of speed and skill. Yeah, Lucic's hits and fights are fun to watch, but they don't win games.
Speaking of hits, I think Ovie just retired Recchi.
Both of our goals have been great. Amazing pass by Backie on he first and a great team passing play on the 2nd. Glad to see Ovie on the board already.
Our D has barely given Boston a sniff so far. All those people that have said that Savard made Kessel better than he is are forgetting that it works both ways. Savard looks lost so far out there with no outlet to his little pocket rocket.

Joe Bs sidekick is the color guy for Bruins on NESN. Gotta Caps and Bruins guy doing the game together. Two down one to go. Just keep the strong play in the D zone. The biggest difference I see, and I noticed it in the preseason is, the Caps block a lot more shots. That may be a touch of Woods. Strong D and take advantage of the odd man rushes to finish this one off boys. There will be odd mad chances as the Bruins begin to pinch and take chances.

huge difference in defensive intensity is visible. cutting off passing lanes, defenders doing a great job of setting up the offense in the heart of boston's zone. offense is great, but defense wins championships. If we can play D every night like tonight, this will be a VERY tough team to beat.

HOCKEY NIGHT IN ORLANDO
Yes, Sat night. My middle daughter is in Hamilton, ON in residency for her doctorate (must've gotten brains from wife). Oldest daughter is flying up Sat morning to visit, and I told her to tune in at 7 to Hockey Night in Canada. Meanwhile, as we watch here, the two oldest will call on Skype and we'll put the computer in the hockey shrine room (aka the living room) so they can watch HNIC and our TV simulaneously.
The announcers were talking Forsberg and I said to youngest daughter, "He could come to the Caps if they unload Nylander," just before the reporter said Foppa to Caps was the rumor.
Lucky drink of the night: Borsao 2008 Rose.
Note - rose for on the road unis.
