Video: Game 5 Preview

Set to the music of a figure skating class at Kettler, Tarik previews tonight's pivotal Game 5 against the Rangers. Fancy.

There's a transcript after the jump.

Transcript of Tarik's video:

"This series was supposed to be all about Alex Ovechkin leading a loaded Capitals team to the second round for the first time since 1998, but through four games, this series has been all about Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist.

It's gonna be all about Lundqvist again tonight as the Capitals attempt to stave off elimination in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals. To say Lundqvist has been outstanding is probably an understatement. Some of the people I've talked to about this series have told me, in their opinion, Lundqvist has been as good as any goaltender in the first round in recent memory.

The Caps have outshot the Rangers by a whopping 149-99 through four games. But to say the Caps have done all they can, well, that's probably not accurate. They could do a better job of going to the net, screening Lundqvist and maybe being a little more selective with their shots. But what they really need is for Lundqvist to be good and not great.

A couple other quick notes from the morning skate: It doesn't look like the NHL's gonna hand down any suspension or maybe not even a fine for Sean Avery for his antics in Game 4. In my opinion, he probably deserved a one-game suspension for butt-ending Milan Jurcina and then swinging his stick sort of wildly at Brian Pothier. You know, if you go back and look at the entire series, that's four head shots Sean Avery's been able to get away with.

On the Caps' side, it looks like Bruce Boudreau's gonna go with the same lineup he used in Game 4."

Tarik, BB switched the lines in game 4--is he going to start with 8/19/28?

Win or lose tonight, we can all take comfort in the fact that we are not from New York.

So now your saying the reason your loosing the series is you ran into a hot goaltender....good grief YOU cant get goals from your few top scores inc.Alex IMCHOKEN What ya think that your run to the cup finals would be against so so goaltending! Dah use the off season to shore up some desire players and a goaltender

Your nothing more than a one line team with no heart! A one line team can be shut down no problem in the playoffs

Posted by: StanleyCup1907 | April 24, 2009 4:42 PM | Report abuse

As cold as Ovechkin is, he leads the series in points....That just shows you how bad this series sucks so far...

Worst series in the history of the Stanley Cup Playoffs...Congrats Rangers...It aint done yet.

Posted by: SA-Town | April 24, 2009 4:46 PM | Report abuse

Tarik, it's Lundstrom not Lundqvist. Please, let's show some respect to European names.

Posted by: Moose33 | April 24, 2009 4:48 PM | Report abuse

If we don't pull this series out the rumblings that Ovechkin can't win the big one will start. And I do believe they will be warranted.
When the NHLs' best player doesn't score a goal until game 4 of the series you've got problems. Combine that with the fact that OV wasn't at the top of his game in the Flyer series last year,we may have a pattern developing.
HE and Cindy Crosby will always be compared to each other. It doesn't help that the crybaby has already led his team to the Finals and maybe another deep run this year. Don't get me wrong-I hate every team in Pittsburgh. But I'm just being a realist.
BOO: I need some of your positive thoughts.

PULL THE SERIES OUT!???? Are you kidding me
Forget the 8 % chance of winning ...Let me put it to you this way ..The caps have to win 3 in a row and one in N.Y your done get me a fork!!!!

Posted by: StanleyCup1907 | April 24, 2009 4:54 PM | Report abuse

hey stanley...why don't you go root for your team instead of getting kicks on other people's boards. Seriously, how much does your life suck. God, I would hate to be you. What are you gonna do all day, when the playoffs are over? HAHAHA it really is hilarious how much your life must suck to come on here pretty much daily and argue with fans. hahahahilarous.

Mark,

Let get real here. Ovi is the least of the problems. He's been a force. Not only does he play against the top defensive units every shift but usually has a backchecking forward up his a@@ most of the game. Pit has two even lines in Malkin and Cindy so the top defensive pairing can't cover both.

We are no where near the arguement of Ovi not being a playoff performer so let's just relax and look for the big win tonight

is StanleyCup1907 same as Chief?

Posted by: Jen12 | April 24, 2009 5:03 PM | Report abuse

I laich the bodies flying idea. Brooks has been planting himself out front, but he needs to make himself a bit bigger, move around, and get a bit closer to Henrik's face.

You would think so but there are subtle differences. For example SC07 doesn't have command of the english language and is probably a pimply faced 13 year old and Cheef sounds more like a grumpy old man with nothing better to do.

One thing they do have in common is that they only show up after a Caps loss which tells you all you need to know about their personalities.

Hope that clears it up for you.

Let's not go nuts if the Caps lose. It doesn't mean Ovie is not a winner. Wayne Gretzky's Oilers lost in the first round, second round, and first round again before finally making it to the Stanley Cup finals. All our best players are under 25. We've got a long way to go.

Posted by: Kirg | April 24, 2009 5:10 PM | Report abuse

Moose:
Agree- penquins definitely have more balanced scoring. Hell, outside of Brooksy we have no secondary scoring. However,in this series and the Philly series OV has been playing uneven-pressing too much. Not playing loose. I just don't want him being compared to Dan Marino in ten years. With that all said- Unleash The Fury!

Let the Rangers and their crappy fans trash talk all the want, that's what New Yorkers do. Lundqvist is no Brodeaur and he'll never be. The Caps scored 4 on him on game 3; which proves he's beatable. Let's go Caps!

You "loose" points for existing.

Posted by: capsfan77 | April 24, 2009 5:34 PM | Report abuse

SC: it's LOSE, not loose. Loose has a different meaning than lose, which I'm assuming you think it's the same thing. If you want to be taken seriously at least sound like you have some "intelligents."

SC: How about YOU go get a hockey team? You really make no sense. Why do you hang around a team 24/7 that you don't even like?

There you go again, are you 11 years old?

"women reporter"

It's freakin WOMAN reporter.

SC will disappear after the Caps win tonight, he'll be hiding, with nothing to say. That's just the way he is, hide when they win, make idiotic comments when they lose. Seriously, where were you the day after the Caps won 4-0?

Posted by: rachel216 | April 24, 2009 5:41 PM | Report abuse

Done talking to this loser. I have better things to do. Bye SC.

Take liberties w/Lundqvist...run him, bang him, lay him out. Whose gonna respond, Paul Bunyan? Bongo Staal. Ha!. Maybe Colton Orr might get a shift. The Rags are so offensively incompetent they can't make the Caps pay. ooooh Gomez, Drury...I'm shaking. Caps in 7!

Posted by: meagle | April 24, 2009 6:05 PM | Report abuse

During the regular season, nobody thought the Caps run for the Stanly cup would be THIS year. I'm confident that in the next 5 years, as this team matures, they will definitely get to the big dance. They just need a little more fine tuning, albeit more playoff experience, more gritty defense men, etc. They probably should be able to beat this team though. Like I said before, if the Rangers move on, the Bruins will rip them apart limb by limb. The Caps may be haunted that this could be the year that got away from them.

Posted by: ejohnsto | April 24, 2009 6:13 PM | Report abuse

Since when did Lundy become God? He is a great goaltender but still a human. I mean he lost 25 or so games out of 70 he played this season and the Rangers barely made the playoffs. Unless, of course, it is the knack we have for making other goalies look invincible.

How did we manage to beat the Rangers in the regular season? I don't get it why and how he has emerged as the main obstacle between us and the Cup.

Posted by: caraveli | April 24, 2009 6:18 PM | Report abuse

ejohnsto: But it'd be great if it were this year. They showed in the regular season when they play their game they can beat anyone they want.

Posted by: rachel216 | April 24, 2009 6:19 PM | Report abuse

About optional practices! Does anyone know if this is the standard for NHL teams? What do other coaches do?

Posted by: caraveli | April 24, 2009 6:21 PM | Report abuse

someone needs to run over lundqvist...it will be worth the 2 minute penalty. you know they will try to protect him and it could get ugly ...but they need to get hm a little worried

Henrik can't keep on stealing games all by himself.

Play wise this series has been like Germany vs. Russia in the Olympics. Germany could steal a game or 2 if their goalie stands on his head, but eventually the much superior team should break through and prevail.

Rangers suck as a team. We have outshot them 149-99 (+50), on average 37-20 per game! That's complete and utter domination.

And I don't wanna hear any of this retarded babbling about how they've limited our scoring chances. They haven't. We had 23 official scoring chances in game 4! That's enough to win 3 games. It's been all Henrik.

The Rangers fans just don't wanna admit it through their Ranger colored goggles, but it's obvious to anyone who can look at this series objectively. If I were to use a soccer term the Rangers have won all 3 games against the run of play.

The better team will win tonight. Let's go, Caps!

Caps will win tonight, mark my word.

Posted by: CodePoetry | April 24, 2009 6:54 PM | Report abuse

@ hckyman

I hate to agree with you because I can't stand it when goalies get run over (they have a tough enough job as it is), but we can't keep being nice anymore. If you've watched other series goalies have been getting run and it's been effective. Since the only thing that's been keeping the Rangers on games is their goalie Brash should run him. It's not like he's much use otherwise anyway so even if he gets a game misconduct it'll be worth it.

Plus the Rangers will go nuts over it and he can handle himself. I know it's goon tactics, but they've got Avery slapping out rookie goalie around. Time for us to run theirs. As Laich said take no prisoners tonight. Wipe the floor with them!

I don't normally hate the Rangers, but tonight I do. I'm a ball of hate. That crappy team that is stuck in the past and is built through over paying for free agents needs to be put back in their place. Their fans actually starting to think that they're good now. They're not. Tonight we will show them just how much they really suck.

Let's go, Caps! Kill them!

Posted by: ranndino | April 24, 2009 6:58 PM | Report abuse

ranndino, this is exactly my thinking unless the Caps have limited themselve mentally by overstating the importance of Henrik.

rachel: I also prefer this to the live chat, except it's nice to have Katie participate. It would be better if she joined us on the blog.

The lag of time on the live chat makes it so it is difficult to interact. By the time your comment on someone's comment appears, it is way too late.
