Video: Ovechkin 'very excited' to return

Tarik chatted up Alex Ovechkin at St. Pete Times Forum, where the Caps' star winger will return to action tonight against the Lightning after serving a two-game suspension.

Here's what Ovechkin had to say about his return, his knee and keeping up with his teammates in the stats department:

It's really great to see him Ovi like that. He lives for the ice. It's all about hockey for him. Boy are the Caps lucky. We have the greatest player in the NHL and we have an incredible team playing right alongside him. Loved seeing his enthusiasm and happiness for how well the team has done in his absence.

Posted by: Capsyoungguns | December 7, 2009 2:36 PM | Report abuse

please try to get the microphone closer to Ovi's mouth from now on (or IN his mouth, lol). I can hear Tarik fine, but Ovi is not fully audible...

Posted by: sargeantmofo | December 7, 2009 2:37 PM | Report abuse

Brads out and Ovi back. I wonder what the lines will be tonight. My guess is they move Clark down to the 4th line but do you put Flash on the 3rd line with Matty and Giroux?

Will we be seeing the "Ovie Hot Stick" tonight in Tampa?

Posted by: cbs75 | December 7, 2009 2:51 PM | Report abuse

I decided to look at the gamer from the Philadelphia Inquirer and, it seems as if the writer watched/saw/reported on a different game...

http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/frequentflyers/Carcillo_awaits_a_call.html

One interesting quote: "After a heated exchange of cross-checks on the boards with Dan Carcillo, Bradley and Carcillo squared off – or were about to tangle – when Carcillo caught him with a swift right that nearly knocked him out cold."

Am I wrong to say that there was no EXCHANGE of cross-checks? Maybe it did happen, but I don't remember it...

Posted by: TimDz | December 7, 2009 2:52 PM | Report abuse

@cbs75:

No, too many goals to score in one game even for Ovie ... ;-)

Posted by: FCKoeln1 | December 7, 2009 2:54 PM | Report abuse

@TimDz

More like Bradley getting crossed checked in the back while he was down...maybe that's philthy's take on a heated exchange.

Bunch of Goons that are starting to look like the way overrated team that they are- so Happy to see us shove that one far up em on Saturday.

Now let's beat Rick's team to bloody pulp tonight!

Honestly I think the Flyers are just trying to save face. Especially with the notion that Brads deserved it because he didn't skate away but didn't drop his gloves fast enough--a bit of the Wild West isn't it.

Looking forward to tonight--they will be hungry but we just have to stick with the system and superior skill and take care of business.

Third times a charm--do they have a hot-tempered guy who is going to get a fight started--we've had 7 mins, then 9, should we have more???? Just kidding. I'm sure the lesson has been heard--keep it clean with our boys.

Great Ovi video! - Thanks, Tarik. Not so important for me to hear every single word he said as the happy look on his face and the clarity as well as hint of humor in his eyes spoke volumes. *whew* Very nice to have Ovi back from that dark, dark place. I cannot wait for the game tonight - I actually feel a bit jittery for an early Dec game! (Silly work's in the way right now - blah.)

The team has worked to find a pace and style that most, if not all, seem to find agreeable and it shows. Very exciting to watch. Keep up the terrific work, boys!
GO CAPS!! GO OVI! OVI!! OVI!

Well, the Bolts are dangerous at home, they have only lost 2 games in regulation (just as often as the Baps)...

... and they have won easily against the Fishermen ...

i haven't read one philly article that is even close to accurate on the carcillo/brads thing. having spent some time in the greater philly area, we should be really glad we have guys like tarik and corey to bring us an objective view of things, good and bad.

i get that the philly writers need to feed some red meat to the flyers faithful but really. exchanging cross checks? i read another one that in one paragraph said the punch came "as bradley appeared to be dropping his gloves" and then the next paragraph said he "had already dropped his gloves". not one of them pointed out the abject stupidity of carcillo even getting involved in something like that in a 1-1 game for a struggling team. ah well, old news.

BB - do yourself (and Ovi) a favor - limit him to around 21-23 minutes and keep everybodys head in the game for a full 60. no need to rely on Ovi when you have enough other guys that can also get the job done

I've read some postings regarding how we can continue to keep the 'team game' intact upon OV's return.

CaptainKirk had a good suggestion, but is that all that needs to be done? Limit his minutes? I don't care if OVs line tends to over pass to him, because its still effecive, but how can we make sure lines 2-4 contribute as well?

I suggest we do the following-
- limit his minutes (obvious)
- have 2 power play lines, one with OV, the other without)
- Here is a crazy idea, but I think it can work. Put OV and Perraut together, with one of Laich/Fehr/Flash. This line would defenitly be a scoring thread with Perrault speed and play makding ability. This would give us 3 playmaking centers (Backs, Brendan, Perrault), with good winger support and Stelks would center the 4th line. OV will still get his goals, as would Semin, and give us a legitament scoring threat on every shift.

Thoughts? Something has to be done though, to ensure we maintain the 'team' approach.

@capschick

Very true. It is always about the team with Ovi. Loved his Stecks mention and his happy jealously that he couldn't be on the ice with the team on that endless PP. Loved seeing the smile. Just wants to talk about the team

Also thanks to Tarik, Lindsay, and the rest of WP. After reading the Philly blather it sure is great to know we get lots of information but no hand holding of the fans or the team here. Good reporting. This fan does appreciate it.

floms - I really like that idea even if it is only for 1 game. Why not reward Matty Po for his hard work.

And with them both on the ice at the same time the Lightning players will get all confused as to which one is which. Just like in "The Three Amigos" with everyone wearing the same outfit.

well according an interview with Semin after the Pamthers game the team didn't change a thing--just kept playing the system. So I expect the same. With that glint in his eye Ovi should come out flying. He had palpable energy

Also anxious to hear about the arrival of baby Brads. Something tells me that Matt is just going to be even more adorable to listen to as he gushes about his little one.

Definitely have a soft spot in the heart for Matt, and was very upset that he was hurt the other night. He is definitely the heart and soul kind of guy this team depends on and can't wait to see him back in the line up.

Speaking of team, I cannot be prouder of the team effort that we saw Saturday against the Flyers. Now that is why I will always love this group of young men.

There is a reason Don Cherry has been elected DOOFUS EMERITUS.

The first reason is he wears the stupiest clothes of anyone on earth since Liberace.

The second reason is that he is a true DOOFUS in every sense of the word!

His comment basically says I should lock my car doors because I should expect someone wants to steal my car and almost as though they have a right to steal if I don't lock!

Memo to Don Cherry from tominfl1: Don, dude, riddle me this:

What looks like a Doofus, dresses like a Doofus and make Doofus remarks?

Answer: Don "the Doofus" Cherry.

Don: Do us all a favor and retire and start collecting your Canadian pension. You are no longer RELEVANT in the 21st century. You are just a DOOFUS.

Just a few questions: Who fills the Doofus Brigade billets for ranks O-7 through O-10 and "Special" (see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Army_officer_rank_insignia )? And who is the Doofus Nation's Commander-In-Chief?. And do you have different people in mind for the Naval ranks a opposed to the ground forces?

SETTING: THE MCPHEE HOUSEHOLD

(A female voice calls out)

"Honey, I'm leaving for the store now. Do you want anything?"

GMGM bolts upward from his easy chair. "Hold it! What are you buying?"

"Milk, beer, steak, pork chops and laundry detergent."

GMGM quickly whips out an Excel spreadsheet detailing the family budget. "That's five items," he says. "We can only afford four."

"We can't get both steak and pork chops, dear?" she asks.

He looks anew at the figures. "Well, if you get chuck steak and those cheapo pork chops, we can do it. Also, if you trade the chicken you bought yesterday for a 'meal to be determined later,' then maybe it works."

GMGM waits for an answer from his wife, but hears only silence. Finally, "Honey, are you ever going to stop this?"

Reasons why Ovechkin should be named "THe Amazing Spider-Man®":

1) Spiders have ***8*** legs
2) Like a spider, he is able to perform seemingly impossible contortions and STILL put the puck in the net.
3) The numeral "8" resembles the head and body of a spider.
4) Media types seem to want to take the "J.J. Jameson" approach, accusing him of being a "Public Menace".

I am not even remotely joking. Mark my words, the league is waiting for any questionable move by Ovechkin. They let him off light on the last incident and received critisism.

Don't get me wrong, I want him to crash the net, shoot from every spot on the ice, but the last thing the Caps need is another Ovechkin incident. The next incident will have him out 5-10 games.

There's a prehistoric monster

The FBI is helpless.
He's twenty-stories tall.
What can we do? Who can we call?

Call Ovi, the Eighth Man.

Faster than a rocket.
Quicker than a jet.
He's the mighty robot.
He's the one to get.
Call Ovi, the Eighth Man.
Quick, call Ovi, the mightest robot of them all!

Rhino40: There are no naval forces attached to a brigade. A brigade is a army unit only and cammanded by a bird colonel. There are three battalions 600 soldiers each commanded by Lt Col's. In total with brigade support the entire unit can have roughly 2000 soldiers.

LarryDavid is CO of 1st Battalion, the Bashers.

Each battalion = three companies and each company = 4 platoons, so the brigade has nine captains and 36 lieutenants. Each platoon 4 squads + a master sergeant so you have roughly 180 sergeants + a dozen or so at staff. The balance mostly privates.

I don't know what to make of this. Our PP does not seem to be effective against these guys, we may have registered a couple of shots on what, three PPs? The TB defense is doing a good job with the 5 on 5, generally taking the man and clearing the puck or at least upsetting the attack. The Caps cannot get into a rythm so far. I hope they can solve it in the next 2 periods.
