Can Peat get back into town from the timber company he's at now?

Re: Brashear. The hit was late. I didn't think it was so late as to warrant a five game suspension and it clearly was a clean hit in terms of the hit itself (e.g., not high, not an elbow). But it was a penalty for the lateness. My guess on the "unsuspecting" nature was that Betts was standing still at the time. If you think back to other vicious hits (usually Scott Stevens), the other party is moving but usually looking away, down, etc. That's kind of lame since guys can start moving pretty quickly, but it makes for bad video from Donald's point of view.

Posted by: oldtimehockey | April 28, 2009 2:28 PM | Report abuse

Once again I have to comment on the BS suspension of Brashear. If Campbell, is saying that was an ususpecting hit, when Betts was facing brash when he got hit, but had his head down, WHAT ARE THEY SAYING ABOUT THE CHECK FROM BEHIND ON GREEN, OR EVEN OVIE.(there was no call on the ovie one) Did anyone else see a replay of someone hitting Ovie into the boards and ovie's head going straight into the boards. I guess Campbell isn't looking at it because he didn't get hurt. But what is this saying to everyone, that if the player doesn't get injured you don't have to serve a game suspension. THAT IS TOTAL BS!!
Then what is Campbell saying when Mike Green got hit from behind. That he knew it was coming, so therefore the guy doesn't get suspsended??? A check from behind is much much much more worse than the check Brash delivered.

And I'd love to see Clark play, but I don't agree with putting him into a game 7 after he hasn't played since Jan. I really think its a good time to call up Aucoin. I feel like he could help out the caps and would fit in well with any line he plays with. He played real well when he was up with the caps.

so i have decided i HAVE to be at this game, anyone with tickets to sell or do I have to rely on the scalpers?

"They're a good team," added Lundqvist. "They're not that good, though.

I totally agree with the person who said to put this quote on the board in the Caps locker room, for extra motivation, not that there isn't already enough motivation, (it's game 7!!) but man, not a smart thing to say, especially coming from a guy who has been pulled not once, but twice in as many games. If we are not that good, then what are the Rangers?

I hope "King" Henrik gets lit up like a Christmas tree tonight!!

Still the best heavyweight in Caps history is Scott Stevens, used to love to watch him smile a cheshire smile after he kicked some you know what. And that was when he was 18 or 19 before he grew up.

This is game 7, how is the He11 can you put Nyls in there if your captain is ready to go? BB made a great decision on changing out Theo and he could make as equally BAD decision if he puts Nyls in there.

I think it's funny that some have changed recorded history. Betts was standin upright, and his head was up, he was faceing into the caps zone. Brash came from the board on his right, all the contact was on the right, how is that brash hitting him from in front and betts with his head down, it's on video! It is what it is. I agree that 6 games was a bit much, I though 3 ( 1 if it's not a goon) but perhaps brash let the " it's a great hit that takes a guy out of the lineup and makes them adjust" coment fly and the powers ( rightly) were afraid he would decide it was a good thing to makes the pens have to adjust without Crosby, or the devils without madden or something like that.

Posted by: rangerfan44 | April 28, 2009 3:24 PM | Report abuse

rangerfan44: Still talkin' about that? Get over it now. It's old news now.

Posted by: rachel216 | April 28, 2009 3:27 PM | Report abuse

rangerfan44, while I'm with rachel on this one (we just need to let it go), i thought betts had turned his body towards the bench but was still looking at the dump in when he got hit. So you could say he was facing Brash but his head was not turned yet so he didn't see it coming.

At least you came out and said 6 games was too long which is refreshing coming from a rangers fan.

I got Kordic as 7 games:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Kordic

If I remember, Caps were slumping and they brought in Kordic and maybe went 6-1 in those games. One was memorable - I think it was late Jan, 1991, Cap Center, Caps vs Flyers, there were fights galore, Iafrate all bloody and maybe Ken Sabourin, and I think this was the game when Hunter went skating in from the blue line and flew through the air and checked Gord Murphy almost through the end boards. Hunter got five for charging, and that led to yet another melee.

I'm really nervous too. Although I am extremely confident in them, there's always this thought in the back of my mind that the Rangers could play a solid game and Lundy plays like he did in game 2 and the Rags win it 2-1. But I don't want to think about that. Caps have got to come hard and get a lead, don't be overconfident. If we get up early, crowd will be into it and the Rags won't have enough offense to mount a comeback.

Holy cow I forgot all about Killer Kamenski! Boy don't get me started on the good ole days. Philly may have had the broad street bullies but we had some pretty good scappers too. I enjoy the type of team we are now but I have to admit that I miss some of that "you don't mess with us" roughness. I'll never forget when I moved out here to Colorado and I was talking to some people at my work after the Caps came here and they were all like, you guys play mean. I'm like you're darn right baby! I like mean physical hockey hard played hockey.

Posted by: Sonyask

I agree. I am so tired of this topic, especially whether Brash' suspension was too long or too short...It's done and it's not that interesting. Let's move to tonight.

I really really don't like all this hoopla about how the Caps are sure to win (I am talking about the Media frenzy). I hate it in fact. It will put both teams on edge and afraid of making mistakes. I hope not. I hope it is a fun game and that the Caps feel at their best--free, energetic, fast-paced, enthusiastic, bold and creative.

Posted by: caraveli | April 28, 2009 3:57 PM | Report abuse

@SA - well I can tell you that there are people out here in Colorado wishing us luck to. Went to the post office this AM with my Caps hat and Caps T-shirt on. The guy goes hey aren't the Caps playing game 7 tonight? I said of course and that I was working from home today etc and he wished us luck as I left. Pretty cool knowing the Avs sucked this year that somebody was still paying attention. Time to get our game faces ready.

Posted by: pokerface1208 | April 28, 2009 3:59 PM | Report abuse

So finally the NHL gets something right. I'm so glad that Brashear was suspended because it was a high hit and it was late. I believe the NHL should actually install a new rule.

If a player is injured due to an illegal hit, the aggressor should be assessed a suspension for the length that the player is injured.

And don't act like this is a horrible deal for the Capitals. The Capitals got Chris Clark coming in and Blair Betts, one of the best PKers and defensive fowards out there, out for these next games. That is a great trade.

I also believe the NHL should make a new rule (this would never happen) that would suspend a player of equal status to the player injured. For example, if Colton Orr makes a run at AO tonight and injures his. The Rangers would gladly trade AO for Orr. The way that this is setup is a joke.

And what a disgrace to see a Capital player bite a Ranger. Come on...Really? Are they really that unsportsmanlike. The reason that the Capitals won this game was the men in the zebra striped shirts.

Washington is clearly the better team, I just wish they would try and win the series fair and square. Through all of the B.S. (AO sitting in on Rangers practice, Dumping beer on Torts, Screaming at him all game, having no respect for other players, Brashear cheap shotting Betts, Morrison (or whoever it was) biting Dubinsky and making him questionable for todays game) I have found myself losing faith and character judgement in the Capitals, especially with most of you bandwagon fans that only started coming once the Caps started winning. Most of you are just like Penguins fans with Cindy Crosby.

Posted by: heckster89 | April 28, 2009 3:59 PM | Report abuse

@bhound - you can't come up with a better depiction. We've been through this so many times. I was completely confident after game 2 we'd win 4 in a row and after we lost game 4 I thought we were done. And here we are now, they've realed me in again! I swear if we lose I'm gonna kick the snot out of Lucy!

You guys are the reason that there will never be peace in the world. Take the blinders away and be proud of the organization, or if you can't (which I most certainly have not been) voice your reason. Thats what this Nation is all about boys. I thought you would learn that since most of you probably do live there. I've just found all these Ranger organization attempts to distract from The Game to be a bit pathetic from what I'd always assumed was a blue chip organization.

Publicly defending what they agree was an initiation of contact by their coach with fans?

All the cheap (at best) shots by Dubinsky and Avery and does anybody see the Caps organization publicly whining to the league?

I don't know about the Rangers but the Caps seem to think it's about what happens on the ice and I think the results so far speak for themselves.

Oh good grief. Dubinsky was never bitten! Obviously that was a bold-faced lie intended to stir up more Rangers-style drama. Even Tarik said as much in his chat today.

I do find it amusing that ANYONE could point the finger with a straight face at the Caps for the drama, cheating, and whining going on in this series when it has all been manufactured by the Rangers. So amusing that I can't work up anything but a chuckle about it.

But, nice try!

Dubinsky cheap shots=1 + got bit afterward
Avery cheap shots= 5ish + each was rewarded a penalty.

Your so right. Totally unfair.

And Bhound, first off I believe thats alchohol abuse. Waste a perfectly good beer to make a point. Secondly, you probably aren't wearing a suit and in command of a team. Disrespect...and everyone here knows it.

Because he has a scratch and got a tetanus shot does not mean it was a bite! There are many ways to get a scratch that can get infected. In this country we are innocent until proven guilty and I believe Morrison. I wish the hit by Brash had not happened because injury is never desired, but the rest is being made into more than it should. Lets Go Caps!!

I am curious from a sociological perspective. Why do fans of one team, like you, write in other teams' blogs? Do you do it with all teams you play against or you just like our blog? You are not being rude or anything (like "trolls" from other teams have been), so what kind of satisfaction do you get?

Also, why don't you folks write more in your own blog? I looked at it a few times and there seem to be very few postings (unless I missed them somehow). Just curious.

Tetanus shot does not equate to bite! It means there is a defect in the skin that could become infected and that the player was not up to date with his tetanus shot. That is all it means.
The CAPS are not perfect but Brash got a suspension, there will be more security tonight and I bet the suit got dry cleaned ok. Let us try and move on to the game.

The hit wasn't high.. it was a TAD late. It's still Betts' job to learn not to watch the puck after he dumps it in, and not to assume that the play is over just because he got rid of the puck.

And as for Clark picking up Brash's whopping 3 mins/game, I'm not concerned.

As long as we don't (ever) see the return of Jeff Schultz, we'll be ok.

LET'S GO CAPS!!!

Oh and I have been a CAPS fan since the team was started. The TEAM did not dump a beer, yell at Torts or call him names. The TEAM took quite a bit of trash play from the Rangers in the early games. The TEAM did injure a player and for that was penalized. I do not think that Brash went out to severely injure another player. I do not think Bruce or Ted would tolerate intentional injuring. Just do not. If you do, then I understand your issue.

@cstanton1 - that's my feeling on it as well. A couple of weeks ago I wasn't thrilled with the thought of Clark coming back into the lineup, but tonight I think it can only help us.

Brash should NOT have been suspended for the hit.

Late? Not even. Brash's hit on Betts was just as late as the Voros hit on Brash just moments before, when Brash had just played the puck.

Unsuspecting? That's ridiculous. Betts had just played the puck and was caught admiring his dump in, of all things. That's why he was 'unsuspecting' - his head was watching the puck. That's NONO 101, and Brash made him pay with a clean hit.

Garbage NHL.

I love how all the other teams fans come to our blog to talk trash cuz their blogs suck

Was there no Pre-Cap today? I didn't see Vogs and Stretch come on AIM...

@heckster - please tell me you just came over here for some good entertainment before a game 7. You entire post is laughable and you sound worse than a Ranger fan! It so funny what happens to the bully the first time he gets his @ss kicked and gets it kicked good.

I don't get it. There are only 7 comments about today in the Ranger's blog and we have hundreds if you count all responses to different Tarik entries. Could we possibly be that much cooler and more engaging? And someone on their site called us "rednecks!"

It's kinda humorous how other teams come on here and say that they lost because we cheated or we did this or that when if we lose I think most on here would just flat say because it's our own fault. All I've heard from Cap fans is we need to do this and that, we're not scrambling around like the series is already over and we cheated. I knew I should've been a psychologist in NY! Endless money! So much schitzophrenia (sp?) so little time!

Work got a little crazy... thankfully that ate up a ton of hours! Can't watch the video, is Clark def in? Assume Bruce is probably playing it close to the chest but didn't know if we had a final word.

Back to being overly excited, 1 hour 15 mins.... i might puke as well...lets hope they are keeping their cool better than us :) LETS GO CAPS!!!!!

All the other NHL team's blogs suck. Caraveli, there are only 7 comments on Rags blog because they know they're going to lose, and they will.

My confidence is starting to scare me. Overconfidence is a bad thing. We need to get the lead, and if we have a lead, the Rags will fold.

I can't control my emotions right. I feel like I am going to be playing tonight...

LETS GO CAPS. 1 GAME. 3 PERIODS

caraveli -

After all this crap we've been getting about being bandwagon fans etc blah blah blah... it appears from the comment counts that we just care more! Doesn't surprise me one bit...and rednecks? Really? That's pretty random.

mrszilla: Yep this was a comment on the Rags' blog. We were the "Crap-itals" and "rednecks."

I wish Brooksi would make another statement about bodies flying. It would make me less nervous.

I know what you mean, that was my favorite quote so far. It was like a promise to us that they would bring it out haha

Come on CAPS! I really believed you were done after game 4. Please show me how wrong I was. I look forward to enjoying a large helping of CROW. Unleash the fury!!

Game face ON! Ted was on for the pregame and he has his game face on too. Looks like he's lost some weight too. Not being mean or funny, I think he looks good and I'm happy for him! Just think Caps fans, we wouldn't be here with our previous owner.
