The NHL today will unveil the above rendering of what Heinz Field will look like on New Year's Day, when the Pittsburgh Penguins host the Washington Capitals in the league's annual outdoor showcase.
Looks like the Ovechkins, Backstroms, Malkins and Crosbys alike are having a pretty good time, though the girl in the first row of the upper deck who's wearing only a pink T-shirt is probably rather chilly, considering it's snowing.
The rink is smack in the middle of the field, with center ice on the 50-yard line. The outer portion of the ice reads: "Happy New Year" along one "sideline" and the team logos are emblazoned on two giant hockey pucks along the other. Construction of the rink will start on the night of Dec. 23 and will be completed by Dec. 30.
And for more Winter Classic fun, here's an ad showing Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby half-glaring at each other across a snowy Heinz Field:

Don't care...a scummy town like pittsburgh shouldn't be allowed to host this game.
Will happily watch it from my own living room!

All the Ovechkin and Crosby jerseys remind me of the movie "The Three Amigos" where El Guapo and his men attack the town and are fooled by all the townspeople who are dressed up like Chevy Chase, Steve Martin, and Martin Short...

That is going to be awesome.
@soaringCaps - I know you jest, but Pittsburgh is actually a great place and a great setting for this game under Mt Duquesne, etc...

HA! Rockin The Red in Pittsburgh! Looks like the pens fans don't even want to come out! (yes, I know it is a "rendering" but still way more red than any other color!)
