Alert: Winter Storm Watch Issued

A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for the entire metro area from Thursday evening through late Friday night. Excerpt:

LOW PRESSURE ACROSS THE GULF OF MEXICO WILL BEGIN SPREAD SNOW ACROSS THE MID ATLANTIC REGION THURSDAY NIGHT. AS WARMER AIR ALOFT MOVES INTO THE AREA ON FRIDAY...SNOW IS EXPECTED TO MIX WITH THEN CHANGE TO SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN. THIS NEXT STORM COULD BE A HIGH IMPACT EVENT...WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW AND...OR ICE ACCUMULATIONS.

We're in agreement with this assessment and will provide in-depth coverage and commentary beginning early tomorrow morning....

Managed to pick up a dusting in Bethesda.

Got bubkus today snow wise. I think I saw flurries for about 2 minutes.

That said...looks like I might be working from home Friday. Not a bad gig....have been on vacation since last Wednesday...go in tomorrow....and then home again Friday.

Nice.

Absolutely perfect weather for the eclipse. Even with the city lights, the sky is clear enough to afford a crystal-clear view (for this region anyway). Saturn is there next to the moon, too.

It's a little cold, but if you bundle up and get out there right now you'll be glad you did!

Going to be a bit cautious. Not going to buy into the hype just yet. I read the forcast disc this morning for our forcast area, didn't seem like much to get excited about. That's still seems to be the story, and I'm sticking with it to keep from being disapointed. However, if we do get dumped on, I'll be very pleased all the same.

I'm not seeing the makings of a 2-4 inch winter storm in the models. I hope that I'm reading them wrong, but all that I see is a period of light snow followed by a sleet/freezing rain changeover. Hopefully, the actual storm will prove me incorrect.
