Forecast: Cool Weather to Continue

By Jason Samenow

It's almost April 1 and here we are, enduring another chilly day. Temperatures today will be about 15 degrees below normal and more typical of late February. There won't be much sunshine to speak of either. Fortunately, most of the day will be dry.

Cloudy and quite cool. 45-49. A wind from the northeast will keep feeding us chilly air. Temperatures in the 30s to start the day will only end up rising about 10 degrees due to thickening cloud cover. While a bit light rain is possible in central Virginia, much of the metro region should remain dry into this evening.

Overnight, it will remain cloudy and cool, with just a 20% chance of some light showers. Temperatures won't fall much given cloud cover. Lows will likely be in the low 40s.

Keep reading for the forecast through early next week. See NatCast for the forecast for tonight's regular-season opener at Nationals Park.

Mostly cloudy. 55-60. While the the gradual passage of a warm front will allow for modestly warmer conditions Monday, clouds and a continued easterly component to the wind should hold high temperatures in the 50s. Areas that get a little sun -- especially to the south -- could sneak into the 60s. Any showers will be few and far between. I'm not impressed by the rain potential Monday.

Monday night should be partly cloudy and mild, with lows near 50.

We finally break out of this cool pattern Tuesday but just for a day. The sun will emerge with temperatures soaring into the low to mid 70s. But as quickly as the warm air arrives, it will depart. Tuesday evening a cold front will plow through the region with showers followed by gusty winds. By Wednesday and Thursday, it's cool and breezy once again, with highs only in the 50s.
