CommuteCast: Another Cool and Cloudy One
Warmer Wednesday as sun tries to break through
The stubborn marine air locked over the region did not budge much today, as clouds continue to fill the sky, while cool temperatures remain. Highs have reached the low to mid 50s through mid-afternoon and they will hold steady through sunset. No precipitation is expected this evening for the ride home.
Tonight: Surprise, surprise, more clouds and cool temperatures are expected overnight! Lows will hit the mid 40s in most locations, and a few low 40s are possible in the north and west suburbs.
Tomorrow: Winds from the northeast are expected to switch and come out of the southeast on Wednesday. This will probably allow clouds to break by afternoon, at least partially, and will also bring warmer temperatures into the area. Expect highs to reach the low to mid 60s, depending how much sun makes it through the clouds. There's also a chance of isolated light showers, especially north of town, as a cold front approaches late in the day.
See Matt's forecast through the weekend.

Mike -- You're right, it's going to be a struggle for the sun to break through. 850 relative humidity forecast indicates potential for some breaks in the low clouds by late afternoon, but then we have to worry about higher clouds streaming in ahead of the cold front. The forecast challenge is that April sun can really pop temperatures upward if it's allowed to break through for even just a short while ... Something interesting to monitor on what otherwise would seem to be a rather uneventful weather day.

We had to go to New Jersey yesterday due to a family emergency and we came home last night. We got home around 4 AM. The ENTIRE trip it was foggy/misty. All night it was very foggy and heavy mist. All the way from here to NJ and back.

The sky was just 50% cloudy around 10pm tonight...a good bit of clearing had actually occurred. That would suggest some weakness in the marine layer and might portend to some sunshine tomorrow.

A switch from northeast to southeast winds tomorrow (presumably as the cold high north of us moves a little further east) will not necessarly break up the marine cloud deck. It might raise the temps a couple of degrees, as it will be coming over water a little warmer than the northeast winds of the past few days, but I doubt we'll see much in the way of any sun. It will take a marked shift to a northwest or southwest wind for that to happen.
Until it does......welcome to Seattle, folks.
