CommuteCast: A Taste of Mid-June

By Ian Livingston

Unsettled and continued mild Thursday

Low 80s for high temperatures today are about 10 degrees above average and more typical of readings in mid-June around these parts. Enjoy the blue skies and summer-like (minus the stifling humidity) warmth for the rest of the day, because we're headed into a more unsettled weather pattern.

Tonight: Winds from the south will get humidity levels rising overnight as dew points climb through the 50s. Increasing moisture combined with cloud cover will keep the area mild as temperatures only fall into the low 60s overnight. Some showers are possible after midnight, with the highest concentration of such focusing north of the area.

Tomorrow: Thursday will be mostly cloudy and continued warm, albeit a few degrees cooler (but more humid) than today. Highs will top out in the mid to upper 70s across the area despite considerable cloud cover. Scattered showers are possible throughout the day, with an increased likelihood of thunderstorms and more significant rainfall moving in during the evening.

There's some hint of instability involving the system due around here tomorrow into Friday. A few areas might get a substantial downpour or two with this system per Sterling. Central VA seems to be the area most susceptible to instability.
