Forecast: Heavy Rain Tonight Into Tomorrow

By Josh Larson

Saturday forecast uncertain; more rain by late Sunday

A low-pressure area and associated cold front will provide plenty of clouds and sometimes rainy conditions over the next 48 hours -- when up to 2" of rain may fall -- with the bulk of the precipitation falling overnight tonight into tomorrow morning. Then, after an uncertain Saturday, another area of low pressure could bring more clouds and rain for the latter part of Sunday into Monday.

Mostly cloudy. Scattered showers. Mid 70s. The day will feature mostly cloudy skies and more humidity than yesterday. Scattered showers, and perhaps an isolated thunderstorm, are possible throughout the day and evening. Even still, high temperatures should reach the mid 70s in most places.

Expect pouring rain and a few rumbles of thunder during the overnight hours, with the heaviest rain falling early Friday morning. We'll have mild overnight lows near 60.

Confidence: Medium-High

Overcast and showery. Near 70. You'll wake up to overcast skies and periods of moderate to heavy rain Friday morning. As the day progresses, especially into the mid and late afternoon, precipitation should taper in intensity and coverage. Plan on slightly cooler afternoon highs near 70.

Partly to mostly cloudy skies will linger Friday evening, but it should be dry in most spots by this time. Expect cooler overnight lows from 50-55.

Keep reading for the forecast through the weekend into the start of next week. See UnitedCast for the forecast for tonight's D.C. United game.

Saturday had been looking mostly sunny with highs near 70. But now there's some question as to whether clouds, a chance of light rain and cooler temperatures may enter the picture. Stay tuned. Confidence: Low-Medium

You'll likely wake up to at least some partial sunshine on Sunday morning, but clouds will quickly increase as the day wears on as highs head for near 70. Scattered showers are possible from the early afternoon onward, and are likely to increase in coverage and intensity Sunday evening and overnight. Confidence: Medium

Mostly cloudy skies are a good bet on Monday with some lingering showers possible, especially during the first half of the day. Expect cooler high temperatures in the mid 60s. Confidence: Medium
