Forecast: Stifling Saturday Heat
Extreme heat to last at least into early next week
The season's first major heat wave will roast the metro area all weekend long. Temperatures will soar into the mid to upper 90s and it will feel like 100 to 105 factoring in the oppressive humidity. Current indications are that it will remain very hot through Tuesday. Extreme heat can cause negative health impacts such as heat exhaustion, heat stroke and even result in death so take it easy, drink a lot of water, and spend time in an air-conditioned environment.
Very hot and humid. 95-99. A classic summer time Bermuda high pressure system will direct hot, moist tropical air from the southwest over the region. Temperatures will quickly climb through the 80s this morning with temperatures into the low 90s by noon. Late afternoon temperatures will peak in the mid to upper 90s with an isolated 100 degree reading or two possible. Record highs today are 98, 96, and 96 at Reagan National (DCA), Dulles (IAD), and BWI, respectively.
There won't be much of a breeze (only about 5-10 mph from the southwest) to offer relief and there's barely a 20% chance an isolated thunderstorm could cool you down towards evening. If you really can't stand the heat, go to the Eastern Shore where temperatures will be about 10-15 degrees cooler than they are here.
Overnight, it will be partly cloudy and muggy, with lows in the low 70s in the cooler suburbs and the upper 70s downtown.

Oppressive heat and humidity. 96-100. Tomorrow will pretty much be a repeat of today except we'll start the day even warmer. Temperatures should already be near 90 by 10 a.m. and by mid to late afternoon, quite a few spots could be near or at the century mark with heat indices near 105. Records at DCA, IAD, and BWI are 98, 97, and 97.
Very warm and humid conditions overnight, with lows only near 80 downtown with mid 70s in the suburbs.
A LOOK AHEAD
The same offensively hot weather pattern will hold strong Monday and Tuesday. Highs both days will likely be in the upper 90s, with heat indices between 100 and 105. Confidence: Medium-High
