Planet Green: On the Air and at Nationals Park

By Dan Stillman

Planet Green will be coming to a boob tube near you starting at 6 p.m. this evening, and to tonight's Washington Nationals game (weather permitting). The new cable network, which replaces Discovery Home, dubs itself "the first and only 24-hour eco-lifestyle television network."

Keep reading for more on Planet Green. See our full forecast for the latest on today's chance of severe storms and the approaching heat wave.

According to the Associated Press, Planet Green will "soft-sell its mission, making entertainment a bigger priority than education," and will feature "celebrities such as Tommy Lee, Ludacris, Tom Bergeron and Adam Grenier -- and absolutely no lectures, promises Eileen O'Neill, the network's president."

To mark the network's launch, Nats players and ushers will be wearing special green caps at tonight's Nationals-Cardinals game at Nationals Park (see our NatCast, by the way), and 5,000 fans will get a free metro ride home. Planet Green promotions are also taking place today at ballparks in Milwaukee, Oakland, San Diego and San Francisco.
