Time to Hit the Slopes

If you thrive on going from one extreme to the other, consider booking a last minute flight to Aspen, Colorado, to ski a few runs this weekend. After a very snowy winter, Aspen's upper slopes still have an average base of over three feet. Unwilling to let this snow go to waste, Aspen management has decided to re-open parts of Aspen mountain Friday through Sunday. Seven slopes and 45 acres of terrain will be available.

What's the weather in Aspen now?

Today: Partly sunny. A slight chance of rain and snow showers in the morning...then a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Cooler. Highs 45 to 55. West winds 10 to 20 mph. Chance of precipitation 30 percent.

If that's not cold enough for you, temperatures will drop into the 20s tonight. Ready to tune those bindings?

Suuuuuuuuuure, rub it in our faces why dontcha? :P

When does it usually stop snowing out there? I know places in Washington, Idaho and Montana have gotten almost a FOOT of snow over the last few days. I also wonder how much it would cost to ship a foot or so of it from there to here? I'm sure they wouldn't mind *too* much...

One of my customers mentioned to me today that her son lives in Salt Lake City and was bragging that today is his 97th day of downhill skiing this season. He is taking a year off from college and he goes to Snowbird and Alta quite frequently. What a life style.

3 ft? Light weights. Timberline, on the south slope of Mt Hood in Oregon, still has a base of 159 inches (13+ ft). For the year they're over 850 inches.

Not a bad year for summer skiing.

It snowed at Washington State University yesterday -

And we aren't doing much better here in Oregon. We peaked at 59 degrees in my little town yesterday and as the previous commenter pointed out, the snow on Mr Hood is phenomenal.
