Strong winds, heavy rain and some hail in Centreville just after 1:00PM

What is the thinking regarding whether this will be a performance in several acts? I notice the STW is up till 8, but we've got storms in the western suburbs now. If we get hit at 2, that leaves 6 hours. My sense is we'll only get one round out of this, but I tend to be bearish on thunderstorm watches in general.

Yeah, this is actually a bit worse than the recent tornado producing storm from earlier in the week. Winds blowing rain practically sideways, lots of lightning, and pea-sized hail mixed in - here in Centreville. Satellite is still out, and this is a bit longer than normal with summer storms. Usually it would be back up by now.

Conditions have changed here quickly. Numerous claps of thunder, no lightening or rain yet. The thunder is rattling the floors here at home. We were going to travel to my parent's home in Annandale, but will stay here for a while until this storm passes.

Strong-to-severe storm in Vienna, 45-50 MPH gusts estimated., no hail, moved E; radar shows it merged with other cells into a single squall line. Classic anvil tuck-under and mammatus visible, lightning more intense as it moves E.

To whoever posted this: Stratus-type, stable, day-long precipitation (typical of the North/West side of low-pressure systems)is not common here in the summertime, though it is not unheard of. That usually passes north of us from May-September. As the Westerlies drop south again with the autumn season, we well start to see that again about October or so.

I understand that they're disruptive, but I LIKE a good thunderstorm. I spent over a decade in places (Sacramento, CA & the southeast of England) which essentially never have them.

Still some thunder, not much if any rain anymore, in Huntington. On the way back up Route 1 from Fountainhead Park, skies to the west got more and more threatening. Skies opened up while I was in Target, but I only saw one flash of lightning on the way home. At least this immediate area where I live didn't get hit too badly but I don't think we're done with t-storm activity either.

Ex-Greenbelter here in Phoenix (AZ), reading your weather updates, sounds like what is happening here. Thunderstorms predicted almost everyday and storms like what is described. Only diff is, our storms are in patches, one can hit 3 different type storms driving 10 miles. I assume its the mountains, heat, and valley thing. And of course I can see the storms, the lightnings, and even the very heavy rain all around me, but nary a drop for my Cacti since February.
