Recap: Summer 90 Degree Days
Back in May, we asked Capital Weather Gang readers to predict how many 90 degree days there would be at Reagan National Airport (DCA) during meteorological summer (which spans June 1 to August 31).
The results are here:
How many 90 degree days did DCA actually record? 29. That number falls in the category most Capital Weather Gang (CWG) readers chose and is right in the middle of the overall distribution. So CWG readers did a nice job predicting we'd have about an average number of 90 degree days. For reference, the historical average is 31.
We also asked CWG readers to post their specific guess on the number of 90 degree days in the comment area and indicated we would rank the guesses after summer ended.
Keep reading for a ranking of CWG reader 90 degree day predictions. For the outlook through the weekend, see our full forecast. See also NatCast and UnitedCast for tonight's games.
Peter L made the best guess by nailing the number of 90 degree days, predicting 29.
Here is how the rest of CWG reader guesses stack up:
Below 29:
dinergirl: 27
weatherdudeVA: 25
Above 29:
Murre: 30
Tinkerbelle: 31
~sg: 32
ChickenLady: 34
Jake in Reston: 34
Model Monkey: 36
Md: 37
DC Thunder: 38
Peter: 38
midanae: 42
The CWG itself, in its summer outlook, predicted "about 30" 90 degree days -- pretty close to reality...
All in all, CWG readers and the CWG did an accurate job predicting the number of 90 degree days.

More importantly, is the question, how many SNOW days will we see in the upcoming cooler months?

Now time for the WINTER!!!! This may be the first winter in the history of this site that will truly give us the dream scenario of gulf storms that we are hoping for. Let's hope we are talking "feet" of snow this winter and not the rain/snow line.

A lucky guess on my part. Is there a prize? Chocolate perhaps?

I think those of us who are chocolate lovers had the closest estimates because we're very, very aware of the days which can cause our precious candy to melt.

Great point, Greg. Here's to a gulf stormy snowy winter for us!
