PM Update: Cool Fall Weather Continues
Briefly warmer Tuesday with gusty winds expected late
After a very chilly start this morning, temperatures have rebounded into the low and mid 60s this afternoon as a sun-filled sky brings what little warmth it can muster. Pleasant but cool conditions will last through the evening as skies remain mostly clear.
Tonight: Another cold one is expected overnight, though it won't be quite as cold as last night. Most or all places should stay above freezing as temperatures drop as low as the mid 30s in the coolest suburbs to the low or mid 40s in D.C. Winds will be light and variable.
Tomorrow: Tuesday should be the warmest day of the week as temperatures rise into the mid and upper 60s ahead of the next cold front. The cold front will move through mid-day and winds will whip up from the northwest with some gusts as high as 30 mph into the evening. Very dry conditions of recent will combine with these winds (and low humidity) to create a fire risk. The National Weather Service has issued a fire weather watch for this threat.

That's especially nice considering the "heat island" effect that plagues much of DC. It helps for people to understand that a forecast for National Airport isn't the same as one for, say, McLean or Montgomery.

Cool, the NWS changed their "Detailed Point Forecast" map today. When you click on your area on the LWX home page, this little map next to your forecast will show you the area whose forecast you requested and the the forecast area. I've always wondered what the forecast areas were (how they zoned them I mean - because you can click anywhere around your area and you'll get a slightly different forecast each time)
