This Weekend: Weather Service Open House
As I write this, the National Weather Service (NWS) Open House in Sterling, Va. is ongoing and will continue through 5 p.m. today, and noon to 5 p.m. tomorrow. All sorts of activities are planned along with tours, weather observing classes and a dedication ceremony for the newly constructed facility. In yesterday's Washington Post print edition, columnist John Kelly wrote: "But surely the highlight will be at 4 each afternoon when ... [NWS forecasters] present their multimedia salute to weather in music and prose." DCist's reaction to the prospect of this multimedia show: "yikes."
If you can't make it out to Sterling, you can watch a series of videos on Fox 5's Web site in which weathercaster Tony Perkins tours the facility.
If you do go, report back on your experience in the comment area.
