Forecast: Travelers Give Thanks for Good Weather
Sunday potential brings out Snow Lover's Crystal Ball
* D.C.'s Declining Snow | Were the Pilgrims Weather Wimps? *
Hitting the road? Weather will not be to blame for any travel woes today heading away from the D.C. area, unless your destination is as far as or past West Virginia, Western Maryland or western Pennsylvania. Locally, the weather remains mostly calm over the next few days until an uncertain Sunday.
Partly sunny. Mid-to-upper 40s. Not a bad getaway day. Highs will make the mid-to-upper 40s with a mix of sun and clouds. Winds won't be too bad, but a bit breezy at 10-15 mph from the west. Also, no weather worries on roads leading away from the D.C. area, until you reach snow showers in West Virginia, Western Maryland and western Pennsylvania.
Tonight, becoming mostly clear with light winds and lows in the mid 20s to low 30s (suburbs to city).
Confidence: High
Keep reading for the forecast through the holiday weekend.
TOMORROW (THANKSGIVING)
Mostly sunny. Low 50s. Turkey Day is a tame one, with virtually no precipitation in the eastern third of the U.S., save for some snow showers in northwestern Pennsylvania, Upstate New York, Vermont, northern New Hampshire and northern Maine. Locally, temperatures should climb nicely -- to highs in the low 50s -- under mostly sunny skies and with light winds.
Thursday night, increasing clouds and not as cold. Lows in the 30s.
A cold front coming through on Friday doesn't look like it'll have a lot of moisture to work with. Still, a few scattered rain showers could develop. Otherwise, skies are likely to be partly to mostly cloudy with highs in the low 50s. Confidence: Medium
Some wetness that had been threatening for Friday night may end up staying well to the south. So for now the forecast is for partly to maybe even mostly clear skies and lows in the 30s. Confidence: Medium
At least the weather won't compound traffic woes at the shopping malls on Saturday. Under partly sunny skies, highs should reach near 50. Increasing clouds Saturday night with lows in the upper 20s to mid 30s. Confidence: Medium-High
Sunday is a bit of a stumper. A storm could develop to the south and ride up the coast close enough to give us some precipitation -- our Snow Lover's Crystal Ball details the outside chance that this could be of the frozen variety -- or could miss the area completely. Highs will depend on what the storm does. I'll ballpark them at near 40. Confidence: Low
