Snow Dusting D.C. Area
* Full Forecast | Redskins-Ravens Forecast *
The potential dusting we've been talking about for several days has materialized thanks to an area of light snow presently gliding through the metro area. Temperatures are generally around freezing, so be careful on less traveled roads, bridges and overpasses where some slick spots are possible. Here's an excerpt from a recent Special Weather Statement from the National Weather Service:
SNOW SHOWERS HAVE DEVELOPED FROM BALTIMORE TO WASHINGTON DC TO FREDERICKSBURG...AND WEST TOWARDS THE BLUE RIDGE. A DUSTING TO A QUARTER OF AN INCH OF SNOW ACCUMULATION IS POSSIBLE...ESPECIALLY FURTHER NORTH ACROSS THE INTERSTATE 70 CORRIDOR OF NORTH CENTRAL MARYLAND.
The snow should gradually taper off from southwest to northeast over the next several hours. Is it snowing where you live? Comment with your reports and submit pictures to our weather gallery...

Here's the latest weather statement from NWS:
SNOW SHOWERS WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE EAST ACROSS THE INTERSTATE 95 CORRIDOR FROM BALTIMORE TO WASHINGTON DC TO FREDERICKSBURG. A DUSTING TO A HALF INCH OF SNOW ACCUMULATION HAS BEEN REPORTED.
THIS HAS CAUSED SOME SLICK SPOTS TO DEVELOP ON THE ROADS THIS EVENING FROM INTERSTATE 81 EAST TOWARDS INTERSTATE 95...INCLUDING ALONG INTERSTATE 70. TEMPERATURES WILL FALL INTO THE UPPER 20S TO LOWER 30S THIS EVENING...CAUSING ANY MELTED SNOW TO REFREEZE ON THE ROADWAYS.

Snow's over now in Vienna. Varies from a dusting to a quarter of an inch.
We would have gotten a lot more if the dew point had not stayed so low all afternoon while it snowed aloft and evaporated before hitting the ground. No appreciable snow reached the surface until a few hours ago.

We might already have a quarter of an inch in McLean. Moderate, yet thin snow continues to coat the ground.
Again, here's my video of the storm this afternoon: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKeGVx1Fu6E
