Follow the Capital Weather Gang on Twitter

As many of you have already found, the Capital Weather Gang, your source for all things D.C. weather, is alive and well over on Twitter.

Twitter is still new to us, and we are working to figure out just how to use it for our and your benefit. That said, if you haven't already, find us, follow us, and strike up a conversation.

Our address is: @capitalweather (http://twitter.com/capitalweather)

We also have a second home on Twitter -- our D.C. weather alerts account: @dcweatheralerts (http://twitter.com/dcweatheralerts).

D.C. weather alerts is our more basic account -- one that we promise not to over tweet. Go ahead and take a gander right now to see the kind of content we intend to provide.

In short, we hope this account will allow you to stay up to date on the latest urgent weather information without all the fluff. Expect to see urgent weather alerts, mid-storm updates, and links to major blog posts.

If the weather is dull, it may be weeks or months between tweets. That's OK, because the last thing we want to do is provide even MORE noise in your already crowded Twitter stream. And when you do get something from us, you'll know it's pretty important.

Another advantage of @dcWeatherAlerts is that we'll be reading your replies, and may use them right here in the blog. Whether it's a snowfall report, tornado spotting, or noting the passing of a line of summer thunderstorms, we welcome your comments and updates. Who knows, your "tweet" could become a key part of our coverage.

So far, a nice steady sleet action for the past couple hours in North Arlington. The driveway is getting a decent coating of "black" ice - while cars and grass is getting a visible ice coating. I wonder if we go right into 4-8" of snow with an ice base that this could be more treacherous than anticipated. In all our excitement, just remember to be very careful out there - take it easy and PLEASE make sure you clean off your entire car before driving. Now to praying for the snow gods. Thanks to CWG for another job well done. Enjoy everyone!

Haven't been this pumped about a potential system for a while--my only fear is how many things can go wrong--but if we even get 4 inches, I'll be psyched.

Thanks to the team for all your work--and in advance for the next 18 hours...

Hoping this will be a real doozie! I'm monitoring your accumulations and hope they'll carry though to the NYC/CT area! DC storms many times foreshadow what will happen up here!
