Storms Sliding into Metro Region

By Jason Samenow

* Outside Right Now? See Radar, Temps & More: Weather Wall *
* Full Forecast Through the Week | Scenes for Memorial Day *

The rain mercifully held off for a good part of the metro area through mid-afternoon, providing warm sunshine for Memorial Day activities. But through this evening, showers and thunderstorms, some with torrential rain, dangerous lightning, and gusty winds, will impact much of the region. Rainfall totals will generally be around 0.25-0.5", but locally heavier amounts are possible in thunderstorms. Temperatures will fall back from near 80 (when the rain begins) to the upper 60s by midnight.

Sounds like there's all kinds of nice thunder in the storm just north of DC. I hope it dips down a bit. It sounds beautiful.

Torrential downpour in NW Montgomery. I had 2.10 inches in about 40 minutes. It may have rained harder but I can't remember when.

I had steady, moderate to maybe heavy rain for at least half an hour in Silver Spring. It eventually tapered off and stopped.

Nothing yet in Alexandria. I don't want to have to water the garden!

Little or nothing near Baileys Crossroads...lots of threatening cloudiness.

News reports of flooding near Greenbelt Metro.

Tomorrow still sounds nasty.

Only .04 inches so far in McLean. Is it too early to call today's storms a 'bust?'

Pouring down rain now in Dumfries area. For once it's good timing, since my husband and nephew put down grass seed, trimmed our shrubs and mulched yesterday.
