EXPRESS FORECAST

Today: Partly sunny, 40% chance of showers. Near 80. | Tonight: Partly cloudy. 55-60. | Tomorrow: Partly sunny. Mid-to-upper 70s. | A Look Ahead

FORECAST IN DETAIL

There will be days this week when you wonder: can it really be June? We start the week near 80 today, but will likely experience a stretch of days mid-week where the mercury gets stuck in the 70s (before heating up towards the weekend). Clouds will be in no short supply, but it will be drier than the last two weeks, with modest shower or thunderstorm chances today and again later in the week.

Radar: Latest regional radar loop shows movement of precipitation over past two hours. Powered by HAMweather. Refresh page to update. Click here or on image to enlarge. Or see radar bigger on our Weather Wall.

Today (Monday): Not a bad day to kickoff the week, with pretty comfortable temperatures, climbing through the 70s to near 80 under partly sunny skies. But carry along the umbrella, as a few widely scattered showers or thundershowers could pop up (40% chance), especially during the afternoon and south of town. A weak disturbance is swinging through the region. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Partly cloudy and refreshing, with lows falling to the low 60s downtown, with some upper 50s in the cooler suburbs. Consider turning off the A/C? Confidence: Medium-High

Keep reading for the forecast through the weekend....

Tomorrow (Tuesday): A cool air mass over maritime Canada begins to nose its way southward into the region. This will spell the first of three days when highs probably hold in the 70s. We should have a mix of clouds and sun, with highs 75-79. A cool breeze will blow in from the east at around 10 mph. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow Night: The moist flow off the ocean will result in partly to mostly cloudy skies, and perhaps some fog late. Lows will be near 60. Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

We'll be under the influence of the cool, maritime air mass both Wednesday and Thursday. The result will be mostly cloudy skies, and temperatures about 10 degrees below average. Highs will only be 72-76 Wednesday, moderating to 74-78 Thursday. A little fog or drizzle can't be ruled out either morning, when temperatures will bottom out near 60 degrees. A few showers or thunderstorms may (30% chance) move into the region by Thursday night as a warm front passes through the region. Confidence: Medium-High

Friday and Saturday's weather will be much different than the days preceding it, and more characteristic of mid-June in Washington. Warm and humid weather returns, with highs in the mid-80s on Friday, and 90 or so possible Saturday. Under the sticky air mass, afternoon and evening thunderstorms may return, with the best chance on Saturday (50% chance). Overnight lows will be in the mid-60s to near 70. Confidence: Medium

Cooler and less humid conditions probably return Sunday, but showers and thunderstorms cannot be ruled out as a disturbance may swing by. Highs will be near 80, with lows 60-65. Confidence: Low-Medium

That also sounds like Chicago, which began June cloudy and chilly. In fact, Chicago is having the coolest June during the past 50 years to date!

@AugustaJim--

Tell me about it... I was just in Chicago over the weekend. Couldn't believe it was June there!

Sounds OK to me. I don't love the cloudies, but I'll take it over Hot/Humid/Hazy anytime. Beautiful out this morning.
