Today: Partly sunny. Isolated p.m. storm? Near 90. | Tonight: Quite humid and warm. Mid-70s. | Tomorrow: Partly to mostly cloudy. Very humid. Showers/storms probable. Mid-to-upper 80s. | A Look Ahead
FORECAST IN DETAIL
Make no mistake: Very warm and humid weather has its grip on the D.C. area right into the start of next week. If it's any consolation while you're sweating over the next few days, keep in mind that temperatures this month have actually been nearly 3 degrees below normal. Accompanying our warmth and humidity will be daily shower and thunderstorm chances, especially tomorrow and Sunday.
Today (Thursday): With a mix of clouds and sun, temperatures will soar to near 90 this afternoon -- with some readings in the low 90s probable, especially south of town. Humidity may be a touch lower than yesterday, but likely still high enough to send afternoon heat indices into the low-to-mid 90s. A few isolated showers or thunderstorms are possible (20-30% chance) as we head into late afternoon and early evening. Confidence: Medium-High
Tonight: In a word: muggy. Extensive cloud cover and humid conditions will prevent temperatures, especially downtown, from dropping much below the balmy mid-70s for overnight lows. A stray thundershower is possible overnight, but most locations should remain dry. Confidence: Medium-High
Keep reading for the sticky forecast through early next week...
Tomorrow (Friday): Times of clouds and sun (though likely more of the former than the latter) greet us on Friday, along with very humid afternoon highs in the mid-to-upper 80s. We might see a couple isolated showers or storms during the morning hours. Then, scattered thunderstorms are likely (60% chance) during the late afternoon into evening. A few storms could reach severe levels. Confidence: Medium
Tomorrow Night: Mostly cloudy skies prevail Friday night with showers and thunderstorms possible, especially during the evening hours. You may need an umbrella if you're headed out. Overnight lows will settle down to near 70. Confidence: Low-Medium
Plan on a good deal of clouds, though with ample sun streaking through at times, on Saturday, with highs in the upper 80s to near 90. The humidity shouldn't be quite as oppressive as today and tomorrow, but will still be felt. A thundershower isn't out of the question during the late afternoon or evening, but any storms should be few and far between. Mostly cloudy overnight with a 20% chance for an isolated shower or thunderstorm and lows near the low 70s. Confidence: Medium
Conditions on Sunday will likely consist of mostly cloudy skies and high humidity. Afternoon highs aim for the mid-to-upper 80s with an increased chance (around 50/50 as of now) for showers and thunderstorms. Overnight lows should range from 70-75. Confidence: Low-Medium
The outlook for Monday is for at least partly sunny skies with afternoon highs in the mid-80s to near 90. Isolated afternoon/evening thundershowers may once again be in the offing for some locations. Confidence: Low-Medium

Power failures can be a real issue...in part because I'm on Comcast for everything...can't call 1-800-COMCAST to report it because the phone's out too!!!
Record heat in Seattle, and near-record in Portland...global warming??? Apparently the heat extends as far north as the Arctic Circle in Alaska.
Yesterday's rain was mainly light to moderate at my location.

Bombo47jea, interestingly while we do experience power outages, our phone service never seems to be impacted. Do you have a good old-fashioned phone?

At what temperature (in DC) does the dew point become immaterial? Ok, guys I'm trying to understand this dewpoint thing. This morning it was around 70 degrees with a dewpoint of 65-67. It felt humid even though it was relatively cool. I'm noticing since I have a good walk to the metro and I can work up a slight sweat. What temp does it have to be outside so I can safely ignore the humidity.

The humidity will *not* be ignored.
(even if it's 60 degrees out, it can feel cold and clammy.)
BTW, what happened to the 90+ temps forecast for today? We're getting up into the 80s, but will we hit 90?
