Today: Partly sunny. A few isolated showers/storms? Low-to-mid 80s. | Tonight: Isolated evening shower/storm? Partly cloudy. Upper 60s to near 70. | Tomorrow: Partly sunny. Isolated p.m. shower/storm? Mid-80s. | A Look Ahead
FORECAST IN DETAIL
Got to say, I'm not lovin' the humidity so much anymore. It was a nice novelty after the lack of humidity for most of the early-to-mid summer. And I didn't mind it during our recent heat wave since the meteorologist in me likes to see just how high that heat index can go. But now it's just annoying, and doesn't look like it's going anywhere anytime soon.
Today (Thursday): Not a perfect day but not bad, either. Plan for a partly sunny and muggy-feeling day with the chance of a few isolated showers or thunderstorms. Some clouds and a light but cool breeze from the north/northeast will likely hold highs to the low-to-mid 80s. Confidence: Medium
Tonight: A chance of an isolated evening shower or thunderstorm, then partly cloudy with lows in the upper 60s to near 70. Heading to Baltimore for tonight's Redskins-Ravens preseason game? Check out the season debut of SkinsCast. Confidence: Medium-High
Keep reading for the forecast through the weekend....
Tomorrow (Friday): We're still fairly humid with a mix of sun and clouds and highs around the mid-80s. Any showers or storms should be isolated and mainly in the afternoon, with a 20% chance for any particular location. Confidence: Medium-High
Tomorrow Night: Partly cloudy and still fairly muggy with lows in the upper 60s to low 70s. Confidence: Medium-High
Wish I could jazz this up for you, but the forecast for Saturday, Sunday and Monday looks like pretty standard stuff: partly sunny, humid with highs in the mid-80s to near 90, and a 20-30% chance you'll see an afternoon or evening shower or storm wherever you happen to be. Nighttime lows in the upper 60s to mid-70s. Confidence: Medium

Oh, yes...Perseid meteors. Every year at this time Earth passes through the debris field along the orbit of Comet Swift-Tuttle. Viewing has been affected this year by the hazy atmosphere.
Other comet trails are associated with separate meteor showers...Halley's is the Orionid shower in early-mid November if I'm right. I don't think the great comets of the 1990's have dust trails associated yet with meteor showers. They are relatively young comets with very elongated orbits: Hale-Bopp's orbital period is over 500 years and may be as high as 1,500 years; Hyakutake's period is 2,500+ years. These comets will be infrequent visitors to our neighborhood, unless their orbits are shortened by a close brush with one of the large outer planets. Jupiter is usually the main culprit, though Halley is in Neptune's "family".

What, no mention of today's article in the Post about "Lightning Field" -- the landscape art in New Mexico made of lightning rods?!

Unusual...It's noon and no one, not even the 'much-needed-rain' crowd, has posted yet on the main forecast...must be August vacation...
Weather has been fair, but with rather abundant cirrus clouds.
Tropics...some increasing activity. TD #2 is still moving westward between Cape Verde & Windward Islands. Another vigorous wave is moving west from Africa. ITCZ is north of 10N over Atlantic/Caribbean; south of 10N from Isthmus of Panama westward.
Probably fair warm and muggy next few days with a slight chance of airmass thunderstorms each afternoon. Temps mainly in mid-80's to 90 Fahrenheit or 27-32 Celsius each afternoon.
