Update: Labor Day Could Turn Cloudy, Wet Late?

As we've mentioned for the last couple of days, flow off the ocean (from the east) on Labor Day may bring considerable cloud cover. Some of the latest guidance suggests some light rain or drizzle could develop during the afternoon (40% chance) or, more likely, at night (40-50%). And cloudy, gray weather may persist into Tuesday or Wednesday.
In other words, our earlier forecasts for a partly sunny and dry Labor Day were probably overly optimistic.
The moist flow has also already resulted in a few showers developing around the region this evening. These showers have mainly impacted Anne Arundel and Prince George's County, though a few have worked their way into the District and Fairfax County.

I realize forecasting is not an exact science, but the absence of ANY mention of showers this evening in the forecast, and then having a torrential downpour that flooded out some roads here in Arlington, is one of the worst weather forecast foul ups I can remember. (Note: I'm mainly upset because I had the top down on my convertible parked outside based on the fact that there was no mention of rain in anyone's forecast.)
