FORECAST IN DETAIL
Sure does feel like winter is around the corner: The sun is setting before many people have left work; the World Series is coming to a close; the Wizards and Caps are in season; our winter outlook comes out tomorrow; and the National Christmas Tree lighting is only a month away. Highs in the 50s and lows in the 30s to near 40 today through Friday will only add to that pre-winter feel. However, a warming trend this weekend into early next week will remind us that fall isn't finished quite yet.
Today (Wednesday): Partly sunny morning skies help temperatures climb from morning lows in the 30s (suburbs) and near 40 (downtown). But increasing afternoon clouds ahead of an approaching cold front will probably limit afternoon highs to the mid-50s. Confidence: Medium-High
Tonight: That front could trigger some light showers (50% chance). Otherwise we're mostly cloudy and a little warmer than last night. Lows in the mid-to-upper 30s in the suburbs to the low 40s downtown. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow (Thursday): We stay on the cool side of things as highs max out in the 50s again under partly sunny skies. Afternoon winds turn breezy from the northwest, and can't rule out a stray afternoon or evening shower. Confidence: Medium-High
Tomorrow Night: After the chance of a stray evening shower, skies become mostly clear and winds continue to be breezy from the northwest. Lows in the 30s. Confidence: Medium-High
Early-morning temperatures in the 30s and lingering breezes will make for a chilly start on Friday. Mostly sunny skies should take some of the edge off as the day progresses. Even with the sun, though, it looks like only the low 50s for highs. Winds should subside during the afternoon or toward evening before temps return to the 30s for Friday night lows. It's been a while since we've been able to say this: The weekend looks great. We're talking partly to mostly sunny skies and highs in the upper 50s to low 60s Saturday and well into the 60s on Sunday. Confidence: Medium

It will be interesting to see which of the three options in my Bombocast your winter outlook agrees with...
Since the Bombocast evidently didn't post, the options are...[1] wet & rainy like 1997/98, [2] Same but with one or more sizable snowstorms, like 1982/83 and [3] Rather cold and snowy like the latter part of 1987/88 or 1995/96.
The Virginia election was a total loss from my point of view, and I suspect that AugustaJim & the rest of the MNR crowd are behind this McDonnell/Bolling/Cuccinelli "putsch". And, of course, Sheila Johnson didn't help much with her ILL-ADVISED decision to back McDonnell over Deeds.
