The evolution of a monster D.C. area snowstorm

Sensing a special storm might be in the works, I started archiving some of the readily available imagery around the Web to document the evolution of what would become the Snowpocalypse. The view from space is now a white one, and that's just one of many images that tells the story of the storm.

How did this happen?

An unusual convergence of factors stretching from the North Pole to the equator conspired to set up this powerful storm. And these factors could continue to play a prominent role for the rest of our winter!

The Perfect Snowstorm

By my criteria, Saturday's snowstorm has achieved the perfect snowstorm status. We had subfreezing temperatures, no changeover of precipitation to ice, no annoying dry slots, and cold weather should follow which should make for a rare white Christmas in DC.
