You're invited: Saturday happy hour in the snow

By Jamie Jones

While the timing of the snow may not be right for a day off of work, we can help you have some fun nonetheless. Saturday, while the region is getting socked with snow, watch the storm unfold in style with a special Saturday happy hour at Liberty Tavern in Clarendon.

They've agreed to extend their normal weekday happy hour specials to Capital Weather Gang readers Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5, just as the region starts to cripple under the winter weather (assuming the storm goes as planned). Just let them know that you are there to watch the snow with CWG, and they will make sure you get the deals.

So, don't say that snow never brought you anything good. But do take *every precaution* to be safe as you travel (by whatever means) to and from the happy hour.

Details:

Saturday, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Liberty Tavern in Clarendon
3195 Wilson Boulevard, Arlington, VA 22201 (Map it)

As a fan of Liberty Tavern, I'll add that it's quite walkable from the Orange Line, even in a foot of snow. Above-ground Metro sections might close this weekend, but the inner Orange is safe no matter what.

Getting to Metro/Metrobus is difficult in conditions such as those we had in 1996 and 1983. The buses are rarely running.

Gottaswing is still assuming the snow starts after midnight & is keeping their dances "on schedule". Friday night attendance is NORMALLY lower than on Monday nights, so attendance may be rather poor tonight regardless of the weather at 8 PM. Many of the swing dancers may be in bread/milk lines at the grocery store.

In addition, the Montana/Villanova football game is supposed to be on TV tonight. The game is in Chattanooga which is probably getting a cold rain now.

given the amount predicted and metro's inability to run in more then 8 inches, why not have 2-3 happy hours?

Booooo, I don't get out of work until 5, but if the roads are bad I'll be metro-ing it in to pass the time in a speakeasy somewheres!

Will probably last past 5pm if things are rolling, and things always seem to be in Clarendon...

Fun! Too bad I'll be across the river and far away! Enjoy if you go. I remember the storm of January 1996 -- going out in the snow, hanging by the fire, drinking wine. That was before the four kids that I'll be wrangling this snowstorm!
